I came here about two weeks after they first opened. Maybe a month after that, and they just keep getting their act more together. Today I think they could easily win, for the second time. The unofficial Coney Island dog contest, sponsored by the News Sentinel.
The hot dogs extend out of the bun by about one inch, on each side! The buns are of standard size and not day old (air dried). The sauce on them is of high quality and is not full of grease. I had the standard Coney, with French fries. Some of the best I've had in a long time. I asked them if they sliced up the potatoes themselves. And was told that they are frozen, just not cooked until you order them.
The ketchup is of very high quality, and does not separate? (Have vinegar sort of pool up on the side of when squeezed out). Â
I had a vanilla milk shake, very well prepared. They used skim milk, and I think fat free ice cream? Since I did not have any heavy thick filmy kind of anything slid back up my throat?
Since this is a new business, Dawson's appears to be taking the best of the old world Coney Islands. Then combining it with new modern ideas. Â
And yes, I will stop by next time I am driving up north on Lima, or highway #3.
This place was great!! Â The owner even came out and helped me order a chili dog gluten free! Â It's nice to be able to eat a coney again. Â The chili was very good. Â My husband ordered three dogs, one being the Chicago dog and loved them all.
The prices were low! Â Coney's are only 1.25!!!
