I was disappointed with Deja Vu considering that this was a 4 1/2 star restaurant on Yelp, I would go with 2 1/2 - 3 stars. Deja Vu reminds me of a restaurant, like many many others, that are lacking a detail oriented individual to run the place. From the oil and vinegar bottles with pouring spouts that do not fit the bottle (ending up with a fist full of oil is no good), to the dinnerware that the utensils keep falling into the food, to the tiny one hole salt shakers to which you can not judge how much salt is coming out. The food was ok, I had the seared Ahi but it was flavorless and fishy tasting (not fresh) and the vegetables sat in a pool of wasabi and soy sauce. If you like large portions, this place is not a good fit for you. My recommendation: if you are going to serve a very small portion, make sure that the food is gourmet and unbeatable. We shared two deserts, not outstanding but no too bad. Â A couple of things that they do have going for them is that the service was above average, their wine list was extensive and the atmosphere cozy. Another thing is that the flat iron steak was very good.
Review Source:We had the most wonderful dinner last night! The salmon was PERFECT and the sauce was awesome! The flat iron steak was good also, but the salmon was the BEST!
The service was wonderful. There were many personal touches and we felt the staff made us feel welcomed and special! It was my husband's birthday and they made it a special event.
We will be back the next time we are on the area!
So, let's get a couple things straight. The food here is pretty amazing. The ahi tuna tartar was perfectly executed, the crab cakes were solid, and the antipasto app was delicious and balanced. Â The staff was also very attentive and informative.
A few small issues. The oysters weren't properly shucked nor were they fresh, a bit of a let down. The music was Kenny G greatest hits, I'm guessing. Seriously, Kenny G?? We can do better than that, right? Â
All in all, a fantastic dining experience. After ironing out a few small kinks, Â this place will be the best in town.
DH and I had a wonderful al fresco dinner at Deja Vu on Sunday, 7/29/12.  I was not super hungry, so opted for two "starters"-- the grilled caesar  salad, which was very well presented and delicious.  I also had the mushrooms w/polenta in a sherry cream sauce--just perfect!  DH had the l/2 roast chicken entree.  It was perfectly prepared, moist, crisp and the accompaniments were also very good. The service was very professional and warm.  The wine list is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5.  We chose Alexander Valley chardonnay from their list. The list is a bit odd, mentioning only some appellations, not others.  Many wines we (and many other people I'm sure) had never heard of are listed.  Without a little more explanation, we had difficulty choosing anything other than something we are very sure of.  We are in the area several times a year, and it is so nice to know that such a fine restaurant is available in Jacksonville.
Review Source:Best food in Jacksonville! When we heard Bill and Joyce Prahl, previous owners of Gogi's, were opening a new restaurant, we had to get a reservation. As we expected, the food, the service, and the atmosphere are all stellar and very reminiscent of Gogi's! Â Jeremy, our waiter, was fantastic! You have to try chef Bill's famous salad- the grilled romaine. Â You won't be disappointed!!
The Prahls have done it again with a top notch restaurant in cozy Jacksonville!
