In short, this place isn't worth your time.
I got there at 12:30 on a Tuesday to find two people in line to order. Three or four employees could be seen behind the counter but none taking orders or even acknowledging the growing line of customers. Finally, a woman came over scowling and not making eye contact. It was 10-15 minutes later when another sullen employee came to take my order. By this point three people had already walked out do to the epic wait.
I placed my order looking to get the soup and sandwich combo but they were out of soup. I was offered potato salad instead, which I accepted but, turns out they were out of that too. I asked for a cookie (another combo option) but they were out of those as well. The only option was to get a bag of chips.
As I was paying for my food, the girl who made my sandwich asked if there was more chicken salad anywhere. The girl ringing me up said, "No." Then snottily mumbled, "If you want more someone else is going to have to make it."
The sandwich itself was fine. Nothing special. Surely not worth taking 20 minutes to deal with depressed, rude workers who are out of most of their menu items.
Simple and awesome. There isn't much in Portage, but this is a great sandwich place. Selection is standard, but you can mix and match.
I went with the pastrami on rye with mustard, lettuce, and tomato. Everything is fresh and tastes great.
You now have a place to go when you're driving through Indiana to get somewhere else.
Really cool upscale deli with huge sandwich portions. Â They load on lots of meat - one special they have is called the Apple Walnut Turkey sandwich....I love it, and want to figure out the recipe so I can try and make it at home. Â Prices are the same as something like Jimmy John's but you get a bigger portion. Â Not sure if it's a franchise or not, but couldn't find it on the web. Â Anyways, it gets two thumbs up from me.
