I went to detour for the first time about a week ago, I wasn't impressed. First off, the service was terrible, and the food wasn't much better. It seems like detour is trying to be everything Scotty's was (instead of creating their own brand) and is doing a terrible job at it.
In the past, when detour was still Scotty's I absolutely loved it. It was a great place to take my kids so they could play in the play room, and my wife and I could have some alone time. Don't get me wrong, it's great that detour still has a play area, but that's about the only positive I can think of. At Scotty's the servers and hosts were attractive, friendly, and acted like they truely enjoyed working there. At detour it seems like everyone hates the company they represent or have no idea how to work in a restaurant.
From a food standpoint, it wasn't terrible, but below average. I ordered the bypass and my wife ordered the mexi cali. The taste was ok but it seemed like someone just threw our food onto a plate. I'm usually not a negative person and love to point out the positives in a place/person but I struggled to find any in detour. I regret having to say this but stay away from detour!
I was excited about Detour opening in the old Scotty's Lakehouse as my friends from Carmel always talk about it. Not exactly sure what all the hype is about. The prices are average for the Geist area and portions the same. A whole section just on Mac n cheese dishes! Fried avocado on the appetizer menu is really good. The burgers are okay, definitely miss the Shewman Special at Scotty's. Seeing how it's next to the lake, I imagine all be back during the summertime.
Review Source:My wife and I tried Detour for dinner the other night since Scotty's Lakehouse is no longer there. Â All I can really say is that we miss Lakehouse. Â The atmosphere hasn't really changed, but the quality of service, food, and cleanliness have all went down considerably. Â The area we were sat in was off to the side of the bar, and the first thing I noticed was my feet sticking to the floor. Â In my opinion, this is unacceptable. Â I ordered a burger and my wife ordered one of their mac and cheese entrees. Â I cannot say anything bad about the burger, as it was cooked well and had good flavor. Â My wife's dinner was a different story though. Â It was essentially Kraft mac and cheese with some tomatoes and basil thrown on top. Â I don't mean to be a prude, but there are ways to add flavor and depth to mac and cheese, and this wasn't it. Â The service was alright, but we were empty on drinks multiple times. Â The prices were in line with Lakehouse, but the service and food were lacking. Â All in all, we won't be back for dinner any time soon.
