This place sucks, drinks are over priced, the owner Vic is not helpfull at all. my car was hit and damaged in his parking lot and he refused to hand over the security footage to my insurance. I will never go there and waste my money in that buisness again.

I've been here plenty of times, before and after the fire and through some other unsavory events but have never had any problems, if you don't start none won't be none... trouble that is. They have a great selection of beer on tap mainly simple mainstream stuff nothing fancy like in North Park.

They have recently made a few renovations to the place and put more TV's around the bar for the sports fans. They also have a dance floor, pool table and plenty of room to party with some friends. They always play the latest in hip-hop and pop but depending on the night you may end up dancing to bachata, latin rock, or 80's music. Always a great time highly encourage people to step out of there comfort zone and give Diamond Jim's a try.

I love DJs. It's always a great place to go with friends and kick it.
Friday nights are "old school hip-hop" which I love.
And Saturday nights are hiphop and rnb.
Drinks are super cheap and head over a little later because
it truly doesn't start getting cracking MAYBE until 1030PM at the earliest.

If your looking for a good time with friends and cheap well drinks and beers
DJs is always a good time.

I always have nice time at this place, I been once on a Saturday and it was cool...I heard about fights happening every so oftern, but all time times I went the people were cool. The bartenders during the week are cool to chat with also.

So I rounded up...I think its 3.5 stars but whatever...I was really hesitant to step anywhere near this place due to the reviews on here. I don't go out looking for trouble, me and my friends want good music and good drinks...after being bored as shit at a local tamer bar we decided to just check it out and WTF!! we had a blast!! No one here was trying to get crazy with anyone else...at least not the chicks...we made plenty of friends in the ladies room. Crowd doesn't seem "cholo" to me at all but just a mix of a lot of different crowds. Maybe we went on a good night (Sat)?? but we had fun and would go back.

It was quiet. I didn't expect anything less. When I ordered by cranberry juice with a splash of vodka is when things went down hill. I had to switch to Guinness just so I can get my monies worth. Karaoke night. Nuff said.
Good Luck! Plenty of women. Just not my type el oh el.

Ok so Diamond Jims got better, I like it! The nights are not as packed, there is a much younger crowd (still older but younger than usual) and it seems the rest of SD has followed suit and priced the same. They got done with cover which is another plus and the DJs have seem to gotten better. So why medium score?

Last time I was there though some guy busts out a knife, holds it to another guys face and threatens him... less than a foot from my girl friends and I... we left and have not been back since! So that was major minus points, will check out again soon!

Worst experience ever...always wanted to go here...so I decided to check it out to have a couple of drinks after work..and first we were told we had to wait 15 minutes then some guy that was there with security at that was like "or maybe 30 minutes...wear less clothing and u'll get in sooner" really?! Definately not appropiate and security didn't even say anything..pretty sad..give this place no stars but unfortunately I have to put a star in order for this to save...but I rly give it 0 stars...

Simply great! DJ and MC are great! Billy Blast and MC Serg always have the crowd on their feet and they are very friendly and easy to talk to and request songs...The owner Vic...he is always there and always making everyone feel comfortable...The security guards are great!!! They are not all in your business, but make you feel very safe...they are good and sniffing out who is going to be trouble.

People have talked bad about Diamond Jims but that is all lies...never have I had a problem.  And they do accept credit cards...

All I can say is that Diamond Jims is the place to be.  I am Chula Vista homegrown and this is the only bar in CV and even NC that has such a great atmosphere. I have never encountered any issues. Everyone goes to have a good time.  The owner is always around and making sure everyone is having a good time. They have different nights hip hop, reggae and oldschool...they always throw in a little latino flavor which is very much appreciated.

Their Djs and MC....MC Serg and Billy Blast do a great job in keeping the night going strong.

I recommend Diamond Jims to everyone I know...simply the best.

Oh and by the way they do accept credit cards.

Even though all of my friends are too scared to go with me, I love love love Diamond Jim's.

My cousin is the only other one with balls who will accompany me when I need to get my old school on. The crowd is pretty mixed and friendly, despite what you may feel right when you walk in the door. As soon as everyone has downed a drink or four, then it's time to move on the dance floor.

The things I am not a fan of, the newly announced cover charge on certain nights, the recent line all the way down the street, and the fact that they are cash only. These reasons aren't enough to keep me from going. DJ is hood, and I'm 'bout it bout it.

And Saturdays With MC Serg.  I do wish they would take Credit card I lost 20 bucks my first night there then 50 on my second since it falls out of my pocket. I would love to just open a tab.

I would not go here with my girlfriend since it's usually packed with too many gangster dudes that hit on every girl in the place. I go here with the guys every once in a while to watch a game and have some cheap beer. I don't recommend you go if you are white, unless your a biker or know MMA.

We recently went to Diamond Jim's this past Friday night.

The outside looks like an old saloon, where you can tie up your horses in front. Once you get inside, it's another story! It's sooo big and roomy inside and there are plenty of places to sit. The bar has a ton of flat screen tv's that are playing sports or some sitcom. They had at least 2 pool tables that I could remember seeing from across the room.

I got a pitcher of Firehouse and two shots of Washington Apples and we paid $17.00. Oh one downside...the shots were like actual drinks!!! LOL
So it was like we had 4 decent shots for $5.00. LOVED IT!

Then I had something call the Breezy Muffins. That will get you hammered and it was only $4.50!!! Great place to have a bunch of people meet and hangout.

One more thing...Lighter Shade of Brown played later that night!

Damn it feels good to be back home again. Well I used to roll up in here many moons ago. Yeah, those were the good days when it wasn't burnt down. But since my cousins were in town they all meet up here.

I was impressed on some slight changes. What up with security? It's all good. The place was packed. It was loud but the music was just fine. I had a good time seeing old faces and enjoying some beer.

It's a cool, kickback bar and I know I will be down again to hang out! Good times ahead.

I was once again a semi-finalist in the Karaoke Entertainer of the Year contest, and in my catagory (Top 40), the semi-finals were held here.

So I gathered up some friends and off to Chula Vista we rode!

I was nervous coming here, as I usually am when venturing to new bars.  But I'd heard various things from various sources:  it's "ghetto", there's a dress code, it's biker bar...so I was confused to say the least as to what to expect.

What I got was a large bar that was 85% empty.  It was still early though.

Also ran into a guy I've seen several times at Gilly's.  Go figure.

As the night wore one, the clientle became a mix of all types.  Which I like.  Random can be good sometimes.

The bartender (Jillene?) was an absolute sweetheart.  Really really friendly.  Accommodated my friend's wacky drink requests.  The drinks were a bit on the pricey side, though.  Even my Coors Lights were .25-.75 more than what I'm used to.

Cici, who runs the karaoke, has a great set up and tons of songs.  The dance floor/singing space is spacious and has lots of fun lights.  Multiple screens around the bar for your lyric-reading or game-watching convenience.  Cici was really, really nice.  I believe she said that karaoke happens Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

It was probably about a 15 minute drive from North Park.  Easy directions, not a lot of complicated turns or anything like that.  Which is good for me, since I have no sense of direction.  And they have a pretty decent sized parking lot.

I'm supposed to be CUTTING BACK on how often I go out.  I can see myself being convinced to come out here more in the future.

This is another one from the nostalgia file.

I should say off the bat that I haven't set foot in Diamond Jim's in at least ten years. My memories of this "gem" are all whistful-late teens (don't ask what the hell I was doing in there) and early twenties shenanigans. Me and a good friend of mine used to haunt Diamond Jim's on Saturday nights, head over to Roberto's afterwords and have a rockin' South Bay time.

In those days, the bar reminded me of the "Double Deuce" from "Roadhouse" minus Patrick Swayze. Big hair, a lot of good ol' boys rubbin elbows with the "eses", the bartender, a really sweet and salty lady with big hair that called tender boys like me "darlin" and the bathroom door that had a porthole like a boat.

The live music was pretty good. A lot of classic rock bands doing good to great versions of "you shook me all night long"....

I haven't been down there in a while but I have nothing but fond memories of good old Jim's. Nothing like a good dive bar to make you feel at one with your drinking problem.

I don't need anyone judging me

Diamond Jim's, I will be fair in my assessment of this location.
Background: A chilly Friday night with nothing to do and not feeling getting dolled up.

First head over to Iron Wok for some food and a drink or two (see my review of that). Then after not feeling Iron Wok my male friend and I head to Diamond Jim's (which I have refused to go until Friday). Without hesitation we get the check and split. As I walk from the USPS parking lot across the street to this green building I'm starting to notice I am severely under dressed. I had on a sweater (mind you a cute one), a scarf, and jeans with flat boots. Walk inside and they only take cash at the bar...really? People are still archaic like that? Ok, whatever. The music was ok until More Bounce to the Ounce and other oldies followed it. OMG! Is this oldies night? DAMMIT! They did mix in some newer stuff and some latin as well. Towards the end of the night you could tell the ghetto in people were coming out as I saw a few near fights. It was kind funny to people watch but you couldn't stare too long cause you might get shot. The spot is ok if you go with friends and go in a good mood.

I have much respect for Victor for being a great bar owner, friendly and for letting me film a short commercial for school inside his bar.

For the record, this place is close to my house so whenever I find myself in a situation where I don't feel like driving too far, with a small group of friends and don't feel like spending too much money (Haha, sounds like every weekend) then this is the spot to hit up.

I hate how they only accept cash. The ATM charges about $3. Please start accepting cards in the future. I strongly believe you guys would make more money and your locals would appreciate it.

I like coming here randomly on various afternoons to play Billard for an hour and maybe have one beer with a few friends.

Thursday nights are the best nights. Live DJ, good drink specials and music ranging from top 40, hip hop to Reggaeton.

The crowd is somewhat diverse, mainly Hispanics, lately alot of African American's and a few Caucasians. The dance floor is small and it gets packed.

Like I said, I like coming here with a few friends to have a few beers and have a chill local night on a last minute type of situation.

I felt like the record scratched as soon as I walked in here... Love the owner but I was definatly a sore thumb. Definately go in a group if you are caucasian. Good drink specials though.

"hmm..where to begin?" I know! the ugly women and all the cholos combing this place as if they were looking for some firme hynas! ok, ok-so i ended up here one night faded as fuck. I was dragged here by my cousins (who by the way are regulars) one night after a concert. Man every where i looked i got nothing but ugly looks from the hommies (OTNC maybe?) and the women (buzz, your girlfriend..wolf!) lets just say if your taking one for the team this is the place for you! (Anthony). Any who i sobered up once i saw my cousins singing karaoke (Seasons Change. By Expose). I haven't been there since but from the looks of it this is the place to be on Thursdays & Fridays!

Note: I want to apologize in advance to the women who believe they do not fall into the "ugly" category. =)

Diamond is what it is. A hole in the wall juke joint with a mediocre DJ, watered down drinks and locals ready to rumble. Nonetheless, I adore this place. Diamond is the ultimate break from downtown. You still get to dance, drink and rub elbows but without the stilettos, short skirts and feeling that you've been robbed by ACE parking.

It doesn't hurt that I live in walking distance so no matter how much I drink I always get home safe.

    The wisdom:
Sun. to Wed. - expect live music, old people & a light crowd.
Thursday - Reggaetón. Best for the salsa and suavamente crowd.
Friday- Old School. By old school they mean mid 90's so be prepared.
Saturday- Hip Hop night! Expect to see me dancing up a cool breeze.

At first, I thought this place was amazing. I heard it used to be a biker bar so that's a good start for an interesting evening. Time and demographics have shifted the scene but it still seemed really, really interesting hahaha. That's the best adjective I can use because I walk in with some friends and the make up is what you would think a spot in CV would get..but...but of an older vintage. Hahah cougars galore and whatever the male counterpart of that would be.

There was a live band that did R.Kelly, 50 Cent covers and really well! Does it get any better? Nope.

So as I was saying, I thought this place was great (past tense) because I went again and I think the secret had leaked or it could be that all of the old people went home by the time we got there but it was a younger crowd of unsavory folks. It was "old school" night and the music was not what I call "old school" but maybe mid 90s. Is that old school now? So, we enjoyed watching a bunch of unattractive gangsterish hoochies and overweight men in football jerseys grinding all over the place. Luckily we got a pool table to pass the time and it was a better view of the hilarity taking place on the dance floor.

This placen't is so bad. I felt relatively safe even though I had to get pat down by the security guard. Also, parking sucks. I honestly don't remember how much things cost but they didn't have Sapphire. Also, they only take cash.

OH OH OH worst part of my last trip there, having to hear some fuuuuuugly old woman have phone sex in the handicap bathroom stall. Vomit. I'm all for everyone getting it on however they need to but not at the sacrifice of the burning agony taking place in my mind's eye.

Diamond Jims is a GREAT place to have fun on Thursdays with the MC and Hip-Hop nights which bring in a nice crowd.

I prefer Fridays and Saturdays with the live Bands, people sitting around listen to the music, playing pool, dancing just enjoying there weekend.  The waitresses are friendly, the bartenders are nice and the drinks are reasonable; middle of the road for prices.

A friend of mine and I came here a few summers back and were denied entrance because he was wearing "short pants" (what most people born in the past 90 years refer to as shorts).

Not long after this the place got shut down, likely because of some form of aggravated assault, but it looks like it has come back!  I will have a visit, wearing some long britches, and update my review!

I love this bar. It's definitely a dive, but the regulars and employees are super-friendly. Good prices as well. They don't take credit cards, but there's an ATM inside. Before it burned down, it had a chili-cheese dog/nacho bar for happy hour...I'm not sure if they've resurrected that practice since their re-opening. I certainly hope so!
