  I'm from out of town but originally from McAllen and some friends took me here cause of the type of venue it claims to be, "retro-ish" which we all love. I Was not at all impressed. Place was ok but lacked in character or to be different. The music was pretty crappy even for it wanting to be a "80s/90s" venue.
  
  The DJ didn't seem to know how to mix or what music to really play. I've been to several retro venues and "dive" bars with this same style and have had a blast at them but this one really bit! This place could have potential.
  
  I say just get a new DJ who knows the style of music, make cheaper drink specials and have the owner visit other out of town bars/clubs with the same scene this place wants to be and do it!
  
  But I do have to agree,..this will be another bar McAllen will have that will fail and in a few months be called something else. Concept is great just hope it lasts.

  The Dive Bar is anything but. Not that it's super swank but it is clean, DJ-ridden and club like. There's a dance floor, a man playing early 90s music and a random tile floor.
  
  People are dressed up, the drinks are relatively cheap but weak, weak, weak and there are any number of pickup artists hanging around looking too cool for school. Or at the very least, too cool for you.
  
  It's just another tragic bar in McAllen with very little character, very one dimensional characters and very little to recommend it. And why would you call a place a dive bar when it's not a DIVE?
