Where to start... LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!

Food/Wine:

I crave their flat breads. It always tastes very fresh and made with great care. I've also had their sweet potato fries (can't go wrong with these!) and their wine selection is great.

Atmosphere:

During the day it's great to sit outside in the front and watch the activity in downtown livermore. At night, the back patio is great. Very large couches to sit on, warm ambiance and great music. I've come here with my friends to hang out, and have also brought my mother and mother in law...truly a great place regardless of age. (wouldn't recommend the back for kids as it's just too small and would stress out parents more than anything)

Staff:

From the first day that I visited it was the friendliest restaurant i've been to. I live in Livermore and love to take people here, just wish i had more time so i could do it more often. You can be talking with the waitress/waiter or chatting it up with the owners and it's the same level of enthusiasm and quiet honestly a sense of ownership over the customers experience.

Writing this review makes me want to go visit NOW...lol. Def a great place for downtown Livermore!!!

Really great service - the waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. The wine flights were fun and reasonably priced ($13-15) and the food was delicious. The edible fruit salad was wonderful to look at and to eat. The food is a little pricey and the portions are small, but they have a very interesting menu.

The wine was really good, but the food needed some work. I don't know if it was because we came in a bit late and the kitchen crew was just looking to shut it down, but I'd have to give the food a 2/5.

We'll give the place another shot, because we enjoyed the ambiance, and being in downtown Livermore. However, we might grab a bite to eat somewhere else, beforehand.

Oh, and we'll definitely sit out on the back patio if seating is available.

A fun wine bar with a fun outside setting area. They carry a lot of international wines, which is what makes them different from a lot of the other wine bars in the area.

Great customer service and nice atmosphere. Wine list has nice variety although a little short on zins, which are my personal favorites. I would definitely go back but will be hesitant to order any food.

Food was so-so. It wasn't horrible but really nothing special. We ordered the jalapeno corn pancakes and the trio of bruschetta. The pancakes were like the home-made kind with canned jalapenos and corn thrown in. The bruschetta - olive tamponade was good, ricotta was just that, and the "grapefruit orange relish" was just pieces of grapefruit and pieces of orange. Nothing added.

I asked how often they change their menu and I was told about every six weeks. She said the next time was the last week in June, so I hope they can do better with the food then.

I cannot say enough about this place. I always enjoy coming here. Everyone is super friendly and helpful! If you don't know what you want just ask for some advice and they would love to help you. They now have happy hour mon-fri which I will start taking advantage of. If its a cold night then sit outside and they will give you a blanket!

The Chef is also amazing. All the food is very fresh and the desserts are awesome! Its Tapas and Wine, so don't think your coming in getting a big ol dinner! Great place for a first date! Oh they also have 4 beers on tap. I couldn't tell you much about them though cause I would rather have the wine. The live music is pretty spectacular as well. Come here and relax after a long day of work!

Also special shout out to Gerald, Ryan and Gloria... they are the best and really good at what they do!

Great wine bar located in the heart of downtown Livermore. This place has an awesome outside seating area in the back with fire pits and live music, if it's full inthe back sit up front and people watch on their patio. They also have a great wine selection and aren't too expensive by any means. Great place to just go chat and hang out with friends after dinner (although they do have food here as well).

Double Barrel has quickly become one of my favorite go-to places Downtown. Some of the things that I've had there are their Bruschetta Trio, Sweet Potato Fries and Antipasti Board all these were good but 2 of my favorite items are the Edible Flower Salad and Jasmine Tea Creme Brulee. I love that their menu changes seasonally because it keeps things fresh. I always have a glass of wine (or 2 ;) while I'm there and the staff is great at helping me choose a good glass. I've yet to visit on a night where they have live music but I plan on doing that soon so that I can see what the atmosphere is like on a busier night! :)

Met friends here & it was everyone's first time. This place is not meant for a group larger then 3-4.

The hostess working that night (Fri. 5/17) wasn't to impressed that I showed up asking for seating for 6. I get that it's a small place, but we had never been there so we weren't aware of just how small. She told me there wasn't much room & she could seat is at separate tables, but we could not move them together.

I was still waiting for friends so I opted not to be seated and said I would wait to see if anything opened up. As I walked out the hostess ran out ahead of me to hug & chat with friends.

One of my friends arrived so we sat at the bar & had a glass of sparking wine. The bar staff was 5 star! Super nice!

Everyone showed up & squished in at the bar and ordered a glass of wine. We asked again to be seated. The hostess seemed annoyed with this request & sat us out front putting 4 people at one table & 2 at another. We decided to make it work. Again the hostess ran off & talked to more people she knew out front.

Someone offered us water, but that's it. No one asked if we wanted any more drinks or food (we had said no to food because we didn't know if we could get a table). We finished our wine & left.

What could have been appetizers, 6 dinners, dessert (maybe) & a couple bottles was only 6 glasses because we all felt pretty unwelcome.

We ended up at Swirl where we were treated much better.

Held a birthday celebration for 25 on the patio. Food and service were excellent! Natalia, Ashton and staff kept our glasses full and our plates cleared. Music was perfect for our event. True gem of a place with intimate outdoor back patio. Couldn't have asked for a better evening!

I have been eyeing this place ever since before I was even 21 and we finally decided to go in after a nice lunch next door.

For a Saturday afternoon, it was not busy at all and I tend to like that kind of atmosphere when we try new places. It was very nice inside, I loved it right away. We looked at their wine list and decided to try a flight...we ended up getting three out of the four wine flights. The rose flight, taste of Spain flight, and Around the World flight. I enjoyed almost all 9 wines and if we could have, we would of brought more bottles home with us.

We decided to purchase two bottles, one at $40 and one I believe was $44. I think the woman (who was wonderful by the way) thought we wanted to drink it right then and there and opened the bottles. But the more we thought about it, we probably would have opened them within the next few days anyway. That's not why I only gave this place four stars.

I loved the rose wine we brought home. I decided to look it up and it turns out the average price for a bottle of the same exact wine is $20. We paid $40. I just can't believe that! I understand you gotta make money, but an extra $20 than average price? I would love to buy a bottle every time we are in Livermore, but not for that price.

We will be back, though. Tomorrow actually. We met a wonderful couple there and we are meeting there again to listen to some music and drink some wine. We just wont be purchasing anymore bottles from them :)

Had dinner tonight with my husband. These people are amazing! The adorable blonde that greeted us at the door gave us several options as to where we can sit, even though they were crazy busy! We ended up sitting and eating at the bar, for the second time this week! The food is great! The drinks are better, and the people are wonderful. Now if only they can build a second floor!

This place is amazing, the people who work there are so friendly. They ask for your name and call you by your name all night. The owners are the nicest people, they are there almost everyday and walk around to everyone to introduce them selves and say hi. There wine expert Gerald is great, he knows everything you need to know about wine. I would recommend this place to everyone. Great atmosphere, me and my wife were there tonight for 2 1/2 hours just chatting with a guy at the bar we just met. Real relaxed family like place.

Wow, I love this place! The staff is welcoming and friendly! The food is delicious. The Chef's really go outside the box to come up with one of a kind tapas. The mushroom risotto is to die for, the beet salad is delicious, and the cheese platter is a perfect pairing for their great wine list. The combination of local wines and worldly wines are a great mix and always gives me something new to try. I love the nights when they have live music on the back patio, it's the most cozy, inviting atmosphere and perfect for a date night, girls night out, or just a random evening. I think this is one of Livermore's BEST spots, so make sure you stop by.

Even though we had a http://restaurant.com coupon...it was still not too pleasing. The staff seem to be aware of their negative reviews on the service...and they are more than trying to improve on it...maybe a bit too much.

I just give it a 3 star because of their food. It didn't taste great...nothing did, especially at regular prices. We had the following:
1. Fried chicken - comes HEAVILY breaded in two HUGE pieces...once we bit in, it seemed like all breading and was VERY salty. The tastiest thing was the concoction that was underneath the fried chicken. Points to improve: taste before you serve and don't bread it as much.
2. crab/tuna/potato appetizer - tasted like all tuna and no crab with heavily mayo'd potatoes. There was no taste/flavor that jumped it. Definitely looked prettier on the plate than it tasted. That was a bummer...
3. skewers - sausage skewers were tasty but a slight bit on the dry side.
4. flatbread - neutral, changes daily
5. meat/cheese platter - for 18...common....other wine bars have such a better spread.
6. croistini - would've been better on freshly toasted bread...slightly hard inside with soft inner. It was a challenge to bite through the cracker.

DO NOT come here to eat a meal. Otherwise you'll leave unsatisfied like our group. We ordered 2-3 of each above listed for a group of 10 and many of the guys asked where to now for food after spending 300+ for the above and 2 bottles of wine.

It's a great restaurant to sit back and share a BITE with a glass of wine, but not to eat. It'd be a great place to meet someone casually...but not go through a whole course'd meal. I'd say..come up with 3 GREAT tasting entrees to add to your menu? It seems odd that your prices are pretty much entree prices but are just appetizers that don't live up to the price.

Loved it. I really like that they have branched out of Livermore, even CA with their wine. They change their food based on the seasons, and it's always been very good. Only once did I go and the Tuna on the Tuna tacos was not very good, but they took care of it right away. This is a regular place for us.

The wine is decent here, but the music is far, far to loud. I would never go here again when the music is on. I literally had to leave, as my ears hurt.

Went here Saturday night to hear some music on the back patio. Evan Thomas from Papa's Garage was playing solo. He rocked!

The back patio is great. There are heat lamps for when you get chilly, cute lights hanging, lamp posts, and the seats weren't too bad.

I went for a mother/daughter night with a bunch of people, so the wine flowed fast. Real fast.

We ordered almost everything from the appetizer menu. Sweet potatoe fries and the flatbread was by far the BEST. We got sausages, cheese board, bruschetta...I don't even know what else. So delicious!

Their wine menu is huge, but you can also bring your own and pay a corkage fee (we did both). Some of it was a little on the pricey end, but then again it's wine...so what do I expect?!

No complaints with the service. Our waitress was very timely even though she was serving the whole patio basically. Supergirl.

Definitely a place I would come back when I am in the Livermore area.

This is a great little wine bar right on the main drag in downtown livermore. There is a decent amount of indoor seating as well as a good sized patio out front. I believe there is also a back patio but it was closed that day. They have a good sized wine list and a bunch of tasty appetizers! We tried the Antipasti board, patatas bravas, the grilled flatbread and the crispy mushroom risotto cakes. Everything we sampled was delicious. I was surprised to discover I LOVED the pickled vegetables that were part of the antipasta board. I had imagined them to be soggy and gray like canned vegetables but somehow they looked and tasted fresh and crispy but with a tangy pickled taste. Yummy!

Location, atmosphere, food, wine selections, service and live music are all excellent!!! (I've hesitated posting here for selfish reasons but... ahhh...I think this best kept secret's been out for awhile now).

Advice: IF you are going to visit on a Fri or Sat night & you want to sit in the back patio (where the live music is 7-10 NIGHTLY) make sure to call ahead of time. Especially if you have more than 2 in your group as it gets full and stays full (you're welcome :-)

My wife and I are regulars here and have come to know the owners and staff fairly well and love them like family! (We still miss Kathy though). :-(...

Anyway, Robert and Kristen (the owners) are 2 of the most genuine people you will ever meet and you can tell that they treat their staff very well by the way that warm hospitality is passed along to the guests. Their whole crew is STELLAR!!!!

The lamb lollipops, sweet potato fries and flatbreads are regular items for us but their best kept secret is their brunch! Come and try it one weekend and you will not be disappointed. They rotate their menu regularly and never EVER disappoint! (Their chef is a damn WIZARD!!)

They even offer beer flights very reasonably priced!!

Finally thoughts: They better not EVER get DUVEL on tap because if they do, well...they simply would not be able to handle all the extra people/ business. ^L^

As they say here: Live, love, laugh, wine!

(...and beer!!)

Came here with some friends for Sunday brunch. We got mimosas, sweet potato fries, DB gilled cheese, and smoked salmon salad. The food was fairly priced but I didn't think it was super tasty. The back patio was beautiful and classy and the staff were all so nice. Maybe we just didn't order the right thing! I'd be willing to go back and try again.

eh....but I will give you another chance. I am all about supporting local places, that are not chains. I think I could enjoy this atmosphere on a warm night, or sunny spring day.

The service was okay. Friendly, but not fast. It was a week night, so we weren't there to linger. It felt like we spent a lot of time waiting for our server. After putting our credit card on the table, we finally went up to the bar and asked if we could pay our bill.

Food: Lamb lollipops were very good! Wish there was more of the polenta! DB Grilled Cheese was a let down. Go try the grilled cheese or swirl classic at Swirl....yum! The Risotto Mushroom cakes were good and filling. They would be better with a sweet or savory sauce.

Great atmosphere! I'll be back!

Went to this adorable little place with my parents after an afternoon of shopping at the new Paragon outlets. I loved the friendly atmosphere and the live piano playing; the place just had a really nice vibe. Our server was really sweet and I really enjoyed the brie grilled cheese; the bread was delicious and the choice of fig jam was right on point. I'd definitely recommend Double Barrel to anyone looking for a cute place to grab a bite in downtown Livermore.

We came back to give Double Barrel Wine Bar another try after the owner, Kristin, reached out to apologize for last visit's mishaps. You can tell that Kristin truly cares about every guest just from the time she takes to respond to almost every Yelp review. She is no different is person as she and her husband visited every table throughout the night to say hello and ensure everything was up to par. I got to meet her, and she is super nice, warm and genuine.

Since our last visit, their menu changed quite a bit, and the new stuff was delicious. Here were some of the highlights:

-wild boar meatballs - BOMB.COM, they are huge and YUMMY
-brie/fig jam/brioche grilled cheese - also bomb. kind of a sweet and savory grilled cheese. i loved it.
-salmon 3 ways - the portion is very generous for the price, and all three were delicious, but my fave was the blackberry/brie salmon. you'd never think brie and salmon would go so well
-paella - solid
-sticky toffee pudding - BIG portion and super good

Service was on point throughout the night and the place was packed and lively. Definitely recommended and will come back!

Happy 1 year anniversary!

Place is nicely furnished and comfortable. Great wood work -- bar, floor, and tables. Good selection of wine which has improved since my last review. Some of the wine can be pricey ($12.50 per glass) so be aware. Food menu has also improved. The group was told it changes every 10 weeks to match/pair with their current wine selection. Great idea.

Repeat visits are a must if your first visit was lower than 4 stars!!

I'll be back! I met a friend here for mid-week drinks last week and it was nice. I really liked the atmosphere--cozy/intimate with dim lights, wood decor and relatively close quarters, etc. I'm not sure if this happens every night, but when we were there on a Wednesday, there was a live piano player and he was great (not the center of attention, just playing background music). Overall, it felt like a perfect wintery meeting location.

I'm looking forward to checking out the back patio when the weather is a little warmer. It seemed equally charming and comfortable and is equip with couches, heaters and lanterns.

It's cool to find a spot that feels special without being pretentious and Double Barrel does the trick. I'd say it's appropriate for a date or a small gathering of friends. You could go casual, but wouldn't be out of place a little more put together.

The wine was good, but we didn't eat there so I can't comment on the quality of food. Generally speaking, I'd say a place like this would do fine just serving drinks anyway, so even if the food was average, I'd probably still go and just plan on eating before.

I'll be brief and really give you all you need to know.

Outdoor seating is plentiful.
Beer selection is decent...could use some minor tweaks.
Wine selection great.
Decor is pretty good and intimate but friendly for small groups.
Back patio is fun.
The grub...average.

Service was iffy, at best. Make sure you know what you want and get that damn order in...it may be awhile before you see the server again.

As a resident of downtown Livermore, I really wanted to give this a stellar review.

My bigest gripe is the prices. Pretty dang expensive for the portion sizes. I know they are "tapas" but two people shouldn't have to spend over 100 bucks before tip and leave hungry. My husband had to have a bowl of cheerios when we got home. Dont get me wrong- the food is tasty, just overpriced.

The good points:
-A pretty extensive wine list, featuring old and new world wines. I had the summer flight which was 2 ounce ours of three different white wines for 10 bucks. Not a bad deal!
-Nice outdoor patio and live music in the back nightly.
-Tasty food.
-Nice ambiance.

I absolutely looooove this place. It is by far the best wine bar in the Tri Valley. Not only do they have an amazing selection of wines, but they aren't all Livermore wines, which is great because Livermore's wines are not as amazing as the residents would like to think!

They have a beautiful outdoor patio with heaters and live music. they have an actual chef and pastry chef that change up the menus, but they also stay true to the faves like the fries with magical aioli...seriously magical.

The owners and staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable and we always have a great time when we go. I can't wait until I move closer so I can go more often!!

-clams(10) juicy, full of flavor. flatbread came along to soak up rich sauce

drink: dr. losen "red estate" reisling, germany(9)
-nice dry drink, complemented clam.

wine
-barrista was knowledgable about wines so i could make informed choice.
-tapas list short with cheeses, chips, salads, meats, small dishes.
-not a lot of people so it was a relaxed atmosphere.

Great place to start your date night. I took a white flight a sampling of three different whites, all were spectacular. My hubby enjoyed the Red flight. We had the balsamic beef with chips, clever idea, a little bland though.

WOW. I had a FANTASTIC night here! I Went in for the first time recently with two friends and everything was beyond our expectations. I'll start with the service, Elaine was super friendly and also very knowledgable. She recommended the some great wines and even though the night was busy, I never felt ignored. We all loved her! The food we had was beyond amazing. We shared the sangria salad, and the steamed clams. Words can't do them justice. We shared the salted caramel pot for desert and I just about died. That desert was possibly the best thing I have ever tasted in my life.
Everything was really clean, I liked the decor, very classy and the music was fun also! I can't wait to go back! I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for some fun in Livermore!

I was so excited to see that we had another wine bar coming to downtown Livermore and finally got to check it out a few weeks ago!

The inside is appropriately well-decorated for a wine bar; it has wine bottle light fixtures and a wine crate bar top...and being that I'm the ultimate wino, I absolutely loved it! They had live music performing both inside and out on the back patio which is perfect for a Friday/Saturday night. And I loved that even though it was chilly out on the back patio, they had heaters/fires going to help warm us up. It was the perfect intimate date night setting for my fiance and me!

I had a glass of wine and the fiance had a glass of beer...plenty of options at average prices. We do still need to come back to try the food out and I really can't wait for warm weather so we can sit in the sidewalk seating area!

This is definitely my favorite wine bar in downtown Livermore (in comparison to the Pourhouse and Wild Vine) but it doesn't quite match my love of Underdog Wine Bar at Concannon. I highly recommend Double Barrel if you are looking for a glass of wine downtown or want to enjoy some mellow live music on the weekends!

Wow were we surprised! I honestly didn't think Livermore needed another wine bar, but this one is on another level. Gerald (the wine director) and Megan (1st member of the wine team) ensured our evening was perfect. My husband and I have very different tastes, yet they did a fine job matching us up with both the wines and tapas. I had the 2009 Cuda Ridge Petit Verdot (Livermore) with the Manilla clams (yumm!) served with flatbread. My husband had the 2010 Tinto Negro Malbec (Argentina) with the daily flatbread, topped with candied bacon, avocado, and cayenne whipped creme....delicious!
The atmosphere is a 10 - they really nailed it. We'll be back very soon!

My only complaint is that it's too pricey, although i believe all of the other local wine bars are comparable
