I went for happy hour yesterday. The place is super cool and the beer selection is f'amazing. However, the happy hour deals arent that great. My friend and I spent $70 on two appetizers and five beers. I'd be fine with spending this on dinner anytime, but during happy hour? Not so much!

I wish The Democratic Republic of Beer was a real country. It pains me that this doesn't exist.

That being said, I love this place! Not for the food, of course. I think frequent patrons know it's nothing to brag about. In fact, it's mediocre at best. The beer selection, though! That's the reason I keep coming back. I love discovering new brews from different countries every time I visit.

The absolute best part? The free parking! This is why this location will keep getting my business. No more parking hassles when I want to relax, grab a beer, and have some conversations. Free parking is a rarity in this area, so I'll always take advantage of this amenity!

Overall, I feel like this DRB location is superior to the original. The staff is knowledgable and completely down-to-earth. Great beer, great vibe, good times.

Went on a Thursday night for a late dinner after doing a community service project nearby. We had a group of 10 and were the only people there for most of the time. the whole table order (minus drinks) was a few apps and 5 burgers, most of them ordered medium or medium rare. Apps came out quick and were your typical bar fare. About 20 minutes later we smelled something burning in the back and 10 minutes after that the first burger came out. 10 minutes later the second burger, and so on and so forth. All were cooked well the whole way through, dry and charred on the outside. You would think a restaurant would have the capacity to cook more than one burger at a time, but apparently they don't.

At least the fries and beers were good.

The best thing about this place is it's ambition. They try to brew and feed you stuff from all over the world. Yeah, sometimes it's hit or miss, but it's never bad. The staff is cool and the vibe is down-to-earth. A gem in the dregs of downtown.

Despite the fact that this DRB location probably displaced a few homeless people, I'm definitely a fan! To be honest, I'm all about displacing the homeless from downtown all together, but I digress.  Bf and I rode the metromover a few stops over to the DRB and as we approached we didn't see anyone outside and we couldn't see anything inside... Is this place really open? Yes, it was. The inside is very small, just a few tables, some tvs and a huge wall of draft beer selections. Needless to say the beer selection is huge.  I would definitely recommend going here for a few beers because they are reasonably priced. HOWEVER, I would not recommend eating here. The appetizers are ridiculously overpriced. I'm pretty sure everything was $10 or more. We got the samosas and jalapeño poppers. $10 for maybe 5 tiny poppers is just robbery, and same with the samosas $10 for 4.. Yeah, no. We also ordered some sliders that were not memorable except for the fact that I want to remember not to order food from DRB anymore. But go for the beer! Learn from my mistakes!

As a beer lover, I already know what class of beers are to my taste. Mostly IPAs and Amber ales, I find their menu annoying because instead of ordering beer by country I like to order by type.....but hey that's just me. I find that WOB has more beer selection, and better selection on draft. I was disappointed on their happy hour. They had 1/2 off draft but only 2 drafts so that narrowed it down. And half off appetizers but only 2, humus or wings. I order the wings and they were alright, nothing I'd go back for......the best part is the free parking.

FREE parking! I love the other DRB on 14th st and I would pay the annoying street or lot parking because the beer selection was great and the atmosphere was cool, but now with this DRB having a free lot out back, it makes this place instantly my place to go.

Inside is small with large TV's to watch the game etc, but what's really nice is that there is an outdoor patio area with many tables. Great place to enjoy the Miami weather and try any beer in the world. THE biggest beer selection in Miami, need I say more?

    Beer:  Check
    Ambiance:  Check
    Good location:  Check
    Great selection of beer:  Check
    Good service:  Check
Did I mention beer?  Yeah... Check and CHECK

If you or the people you are with are into the sudsy flavors of America's favorite alcohol, this is the right place.  The beer selection is amazing and regardless of what your beer palette is in the mood for, chances are good that this place has it.  From small micro-brews to well known names, this place has the alcohol content you are looking for.

Yes, they serve food.  But honestly, this is not where you go for food.  If you are the type that needs something in your stomach to continue drinking, the food here  is acceptable.  The few times I have already been here, the service has been extraordinarily good.  Could be because not many people know about the new location yet, or maybe they just realized that drunk people need good service too.

Overall, an excellent, chill spot for some good drinks and conversation.

We stopped by The DRB's second location before a Heat game a few weeks ago.  We got there roughly 10 minutes before they opened and were glad that the staff let us in regardless.  The location is well decorated and centrally located.  The perfect spot to stop by before a game or show at American Airlines.  No issues finding street parking and they even announced we could come back after the game for free beers.  We ordered a round of Dale's and returned after our home team won for some Stone IPA.    I just have to wonder why they would put a second location here and not on the beach or in the grove.

Saved by the Bell: awesome. Saved by the Bell the College years: shit.
Dirty Dancing: a classic. Dirty Dancing Havana Nights: shit.
Sprite: darn delicious. Sprite remix: shit.

Catch my drift? Sequels, remakes, part-towers, etc. are usually complete shit. So I was a teensy bit wary about a second location of the DRB because the original is quite possibly my favorite bar in Miami (a bold statement, I know). Despite my fears that the new location would suck and forever ruin anything DRB for me, I decided to give it a go, and after a few failed attempts at making it here, I finally got the opportunity to visit the new location for their "end of the world" bash.  Here's my take on it.

I read that they have a free parking lot for patrons to which I of course laughed at. "Surely there are like 3 spaces fit into a small corner behind the building where you have to maneuver between a dumpster and a homeless person." Finding parking in downtown Miami is like finding Lady GaGa's penis: you know it's there, it just takes some manipulating and hard work to find it. Finding FREE parking in downtown Miami is like finding the Abominable Snow Man doing synchronized swimming with the Loch Ness Monster. But wowzers wahoo hold the phones, there is free parking to be had here at the DRB at 501! No circling on one-way streets, no meters, no homeless people. YES.

After [easily] attaining a parking space, the first thing to make note of is the awesome outside patio which is spacious and gated (to keep out any unwanted visitors), two more anomalies in the downtown area. The inside of the DRB has a similar feel to the original with the dim lighting and overcrowdedness. This location is larger and has much more seating than the first, so it might have been the nature of the night and the $20 dollar all you can drink special that had the crowds rolling in, or it could be that the DRB at 501 is just so awesome it draws in a huge crowd all the time. I'll let you know after a second visit.

It doesn't need to be said, but I'll say it anyway: DRB has the largest beer selection around and this location has the same "around the world" menu type setup as the first. The bartenders are pretty good and on their game and the prices are standard if not on the more inexpensive side for the area. I'd say most beers on the menu are between 6 and 8 bucks. This location has more beers on tap which is good... if you like that sort of thing. There is a food menu here for snacks and such and the guy sitting at the table next to me said that the food he ate was really delicious. I don't recall exactly what it was he said he ordered because his chest tattoo was distracting me, but I've had food from the other location which I do agree is yumm.

501 is pretty cool and I'm excited to go back. Come here!

I'm just ok with this place. I do think this location is better than the one close by the Omni Station. Simply because it's bigger and it looks like they carry more brands on draft. Regardless, this is a place I wanted to love.

But for some reason, it doesn't seem to have the relaxed vibe. I don't know if it's because of the fact that it's so close by the fire station - while I was here, I've heard their sirens twice. Or if it's because the outside corner is a view of the barren street that's overladen with 18-wheelers rumbling by. Or the fact that it was practically almost empty when I was here early in the evening. Plus, the table and chairs we used outside was wobbly. I think they could invest in better tables, put in plants to make it more green or garden-like, rid of so much tint on their windows, and expand their hours and lunch offerings for nearby students. A lot of MDC Wolfson students walking by this place on the way to the parking garage were clueless that there was a bar since they couldn't see much beyond the black windows and the iron-wrought gates.

But still, the food is not that great - like the first location.

I think overall, I still prefer other places in downtown - either for the view, vibe, or for the variety of drinks. But to impress people with the beer list, this is still a good place to be. And the prices are fair (and their happy hour is 50% food and drafts). And this place has the potential to be bigger than it is, especially with the added space.

PS - Why do they not carry Prestige beer from Haiti?

I dropped in after an event at American Airlines Arena to their newest location located across the street from the College North Metro Mover. After the Miami Heat game, if you show your ticket, the first cold draft is on them.

They have a full late night menu that looked the same as their other location. I had some Sliders and Fries which was okay. There is both inside and outside seating.

I have been waiting for this second installation of DRB to open up since the fine gentlemen who own it started talking about quite some time ago.

    I love it.

On top of all of the great aspects of the original; that being great people, knowledgable staff, and a huge bottle selection, they have now added something like 50 taps! Furthemore, this place has free parking (a huge issue at the previous bar) on top of a Metro Mover stop across the street. I can take public transportation to one of my favorite bars, in Miami? I can't believable!

I didn't confirm this, but one of the owners told me he actually lowered the prices because rent in the area was cheaper. I can't believable!

Similar layout to the first, but this one has some more tables inside, and the outside area is dope. Its covered, with an old school fence closing it off from the street (keeping out some of the unwanted company) and an urban environment.

From what I've heard, some future plans include an outside bar, expanded menu, and some live music. Sweet.

DRB has been a Miami institution for a while now, but the location for their second bar has some added features that folks will find useful. First, FREE PARKING! There is a lot reserved for DRB right next door. Second, METROMOVER! No need to drive is you live downtown, just stumble your drunk butt onto public transit. There is also a gorgeous patio fenced in with Victorian-style gratings that makes the place very cute.

Since this is DRB, you know the star of the show will be their fabulous collection of libations. This place does not disappoint - tons of beers on tap, including some local selections.  Their comprehensive list of bottled beers will make you feel like you are taking the SATS again (or voting in the 2012 election!). No hard liquor, but it will take you forever to drink through their beer list so why resort to the hard stuff?

The food here is okay. A little overpriced in my opinion but that is not why you come to a place like this. Since this location just opened it was rather empty but I would expect to get packed in the future. Enjoy the peace and quiet while you can, guys!

It's a little known fact that I despise downtown. Ok, perhaps it's a so-well-known-my-friends-who-live-there-are-afraid-to-invite-me-over fact.  With the sketchy characters hovering around my vehicle, the seventh layer of Hell-style parking and the road rage inducing traffic jams, there are few places I find less pleasant. Send me driving down there, and screaming fits will assuredly follow.

Due to these many factors, I rarely venture into the area. I turn down story assignments in the vicinity; I refuse to patronize even the most awesome area restaurants and I wouldn't hit up a Heat game if D-Wade paid me.

However, for the new DRB, I might make an exception. The newest branch of the teeny tiny little beer bar on 14th, this 1st street outpost is a shining beacon of brew. And cider. And sweet smelling candles. With cow print booth backs, dark decor and flickering candles atop the tables, the atmosphere is casually charming.

We hit it up on opening night for a co-worker's farewell fete, and the crowd was surprisingly eclectic. There were hipsters from midtown, yuppies from Brickell - random stragglers with in-definitive style like myself and my cohorts. And despite a low-key, soft opening status, the place was packed.

Prices are reasonable. $5 for a Woodchuck Ginger Cider. And they've got a full food menu - though I can't speak to its quality, my co-workers dug the hummus. Service was stellar and it goes without saying that they have approximately 2,456,980 beers to choose from.

But what scored them that rare fifth star - and a serious kudos from your truly? FREE PARKING. For realz. An entire lot devoted to DRB boozers. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about, downtown!

So don't be surprised if you find me lifting my self-imposed restraining order on my least favorite neighborhood, if only to patronize this little piece of beeradise.
