This is a pretty sweet little bar! Good location, and they do have a parking lot (albeit small) right next to it, so you don't have to worry about street parking or fighting for a spot in a municipal Po-City lot.
One of my favorite things about the Dubliner is that the staff is very friendly and courteous, something that seems is becoming harder and harder to find. This place is simple and honest. There are no gimmicks. Food is great, drinks are good, prices are reasonable. The beer selection is generally pretty good, and it's never really crowded. How much more could you want?
If you're not participating, trivia night can be irritating (but that's the case anywhere there's trivia night). Since it's only one large room, you can't really escape the noise. The last time I was there, they had a pretty awful DJ playing early 2000s top 40 hits, and it was way too loud (I don't mean "too loud" in the sense that I'm old and don't like listening to music...I'm in my 20s and I thought it was WAY TOO LOUD), but that's barely anything to comment on since I don't think it's a general trend. You shouldn't have to scream at the top of your lungs for your friends sitting across the table from you to be able to hear you.
Anyway, to sum it up, the Dubliner is a nice little bar. Definitely one of my top picks for a Friday night of drinks and appetizers with a couple friends, or to watch a game. (They're really good about taking requests on what to put on the TVs, too.)
I love this bar and honestly am here for dinner most nights of the week. However, I am writing this out of frustration...
Among the many things they do right, there are great nights each week such as trivia night. I unfortunately never remember which day of the week it falls on (Tuesday or Thursday maybe?). I would love to just call and ask, but THEY DON'T HAVE A PHONE!
Please get a phone! Then I will love you again.
Went for Brunch, and actually that day was in the mood for a Lunch special. But they only had dinner meals of the Item I wanted, ? Lunch only on weekdays for this Item??
Another weird rule or whatever you may call it..Two friends of mine were there for Lunch. And no Irish Breakfast served at that time?? I think it was a weekday, not certain. But still quite odd for an Irish Bar & Restaurant.
I ended up having an Irish Breakfast the day I was in the mood for Lunch, which was good and we had a big teapot of tea..Liked that part.
I was also looking forward to trying out the Cider they have that I have never had before, but they was out of it.! :(
Don't be fooled by the look of this pub from the outside! Once you enter the pub you will be warmly welcomed and enjoy the irish decor.
This pub has a wide selection of beer. We enjoyed several different beers and a game of darts as well. The bartender and waiter staff are very nice. They took the time to answer questions about the selection of beer.
We went on Sunday afternoon and unfortunately did not eat any food here. This review is strictly for drinks, decor and service.
(Preface: Â This place is on my "Two-Week List," in which I list the top twenty restaurants and bars that I'd go to if some soothsayer came up to me and told me that I only had two weeks to live. Â Check out the full list on my profile!)
Before I was old enough to even drink, I'd come here for brunch. Â (I wouldn't drink, I swear!) Â But they have this fantaaaaaastic Irish brunch on Sundays. Â If I remember correctly, they have this classic Irish breakfast for thirteen dollars, and you get eggs, bacon, bangers, black pudding, a cooked tomato, potatoes (I think?) and toast!! Â And a pot of tea! Â Often they'd have live music (at brunch it would be subdued-- maybe just a fiddle). Â I always enjoyed brunches here, and whenever a friend's parents would visit, we'd impress them with brunch here.
Once I turned twenty-one, this place became even MORE fun. Â We already knew Brendan, the owner, and my first beer here was electrifying. Â (I remember that it was an Erdinger, served in a huge half-liter container.) Â Maybe this was because it was so built-up for me-- but what a solid place. Â I've spent single Valentine's Days here (ha, I think that was the first time I was there as a twenty-one-year-old), trivia nights here, random weeknights with friends here, etc. Â On the weekends, things get a little crazy-- I know that they have 80s night, which is super loud and crowded. Â But it's so fun to come here on a less hectic night. Â In the winter, there's a huge fireplace, and you can sit in the leather chairs in front of it. Â There's a James Joyce room (nerdy but awesome) if you have a large party. Â And your order of shepherd's pie or fish and chips can feed you for a couple of days. Â And the artichoke dip with chips is a meal in and of itself. Â
I miss this place so much... almost makes me wish I lived in Poughkeepsie again!! Â But it's a solidly Irish place. Â Wayyyy better than downtown Poughkeepsie's Mahoney's.
I love Dub...but then again there's not really any other chill bar in the area. When I home back home to the area I will no doubt be at Dub at least once during the weekend. The atmosphere is real chill, the DJ is usually pretty good and the crowd isn't usually too obnoxious. It's close to Vassar College so you get the hipsters, but that's not terrible (yes, it's usually a sausage fest in here ladies). They have a lot of beer on tap, all are listed on the chalkboard across the room, macro to micro-brews to service every pallet. I've actually only eaten here once, small plate meals and they were super bomb. I know a couple people that work here which make my visit more enjoyable, but my friends and I usually find ourselves here! How long until St. Patty's Day?
Review Source:Want to start off by saying the place has a great atmosphere and the staff is really friendly. The food is really delicious. Its really great for dinner, and then drinks after wards. I had to try the coconut shrimp which was delicious, salad with the creamy walnut dressing, and the Shepard's pie all were amazing. I had a blast here and with the DJ and people there the place is great for groups, and meeting new people!
Review Source:We visited in the middle of the day, so probably didn't get the full atmosphere, but I had several nice pints of Dogfish Head here. One of the staff/the manager was, I think, doing the books at the next table, and every now and again glanced over to check if we needed anything, which was nice. The menu looked pretty interesting, but we didn't eat.
Review Source:This is one of the two places I went out to while I spent the summer in Poughkeepsie. It had a interesting vibe. Being a Los Angeles native it was a whole new world to me. My buddy Brett and I came on Wednesday a couple times (which was karaoke night) and had a lot of fun. The people were friendly, girl bar tending was really cute and nice. As far as Poughkeepsie goes I think it is the best bar in town.
Review Source:The first night we went here we LOVED it! Great beer, excellent, friendly service, and the fish and chips rocked (the plate was enough to feed two!). We're vegetarian, and occasionally eat fish, but that night my hubby got the veggie wrap. He said it was good, but was really sick to his stomach the next day.
We thought it was a fluke, and later that week we went back with friends who are big fans of Irish pubs. The vegetarian selection is meager, which is not surprising for a pub, so he got the same wrap and this time I tried the stuffed portobello entree. I have to be honest... it was probably the worst meal I've had out in years. It actually tasted spoiled -- like the mushrooms and spinach and been sitting in a fridge for days. I don't like wasting food, but that night I left half of it, it was just so unappealing. And unfortunately, my hubby was sick again after his wrap. The rest of our group, who were all meat eaters, seemed happy with their food.
In the end, if you're a vegetarian, stick to the fish and chips. We really like the atmosphere of the place, so if we go back it'll be just for the beers and pub-ambiance.
I ordered the Jameson burger with curry fries. The burger comes with mushrooms cooked in Jameson, but I couldn't taste the flavor from the alcohol at all. Besides that the mushrooms were fine, though the burger overpowered them completely so I ate them separately. The curry fries are actually steak fries that come with a very mildly flavored curry dipping sauce, I wasn't a fan and opted for ketchup instead. I can't speak for the bar but the food isn't anything to go out of your way for and even if I was in the area again I wouldn't come back unless I was only looking for drinks.
Review Source:I'm so glad this place is in my hometown!
Great beers on tap (Ommegang, Dogfish Head, Long Trail, Brooklyn...) and excellent apps. We got the Crab Rangoon... deep-fried crab/cream cheese dumplings served with a plum sauce. It's just as good as it sounds.
I wanted to bag and take home the freaking a-MAZING Irish Soda Bread made in-house that comes with dinner.
it's not all Irish-- As a main course I got the curry shrimp and chicken over rice and vegetables.
I want to go back for the beer tastings nights!
I went here for the first time on a Tuesday night in early March. Â The place is okay. Â I had the fish and chips and it was average, but over priced at $15 for the portion size. Â I also ordered a PBR on draft and it cost $5. Â Way over priced for PBR. Â I actually like PBR on draft if the mug is ice cold and its a well used tap. Â However, apparently they give you warm glasses here and the PBR is flat. Â So order another type of beer that might get more action at the tap. Â On the good side they had a good draft selection and decent food, and it almost has a cozy dive bar feeling that makes you feel comfortable. Â 2 stars, nothing special and the cost hurts the score here. Â Perhaps I upgrade them if I sample them another night of the week.
Review Source:The Dubliner really deserves all of the stars. Â It's a classy establishment in an otherwise lacking area (Poughkeepsie isn't the greatest or most exciting college town, which is one of the few cons of going to Vassar). Â There are a lot of great beers on tap, a lot of great food on the menu, and a lot of great people on the wait- and barstaff. Â You can get a proper pour of Guinness and dine on out-of-this-world-amazing spinach & brie dip. Â Seriously I could snack on that dip for days. Â Also there are curry fries. Â I don't even like curry but you can't miss the curry fries.
I also need to make a special note of their tolerance... my friends and I enjoyed having birthday parties here, and on one such occasion we broke no less than four or five glasses (probably more) between the ten of us, but they never said a word or kicked us out, which was much appreciated.
I'd been meaning to try the Dubliner for awhile, and finally got a chance when I came here recently with a couple of friends for a girl's night out. I really liked the feel of the environment--comfortable and not too noisy even though it was a Friday night. My friend, who'd been to Ireland over the summer, described it as having the feel of a traditional Irish pub, but much cleaner (always a plus!). The interior is mostly hard wood--it's a bit dark, but that's appropriate for the venue.
We didn't ended up ordering drinks, but (as expected) they have a nice selection of beers. The menu is pretty extensive, with a bunch of finger-food-type appetizers, burgers, classic Irish fare, meats, fish, and a few surprises (Aegean chicken, which was stuffed with feta cheese and spinach, struck me as particularly out of place at an Irish pub, although it sounded good). Though the fish and chips was tempting--it's supposed to be excellent--I decided to try the Dubliner burger (a burger topped with cheddar and rasher bacon). It was definitely a good (and huge!) choice: I ordered it medium and it was cooked to that temperature (nice and pink in the middle, but not too much so). The accompanying fries were fabulous--I'm usually not that into fries, but I couldn't stop eating these. My friends went with a different type of burger (George's Burger--bacon, cheddar, barbecue sauce) and the Irish spring rolls (filled with corned beef, cabbage, Russian dressing, and swiss cheese), both of which were very much enjoyed.
Though I wouldn't say the Dubliner is extraordinary, it was definitely a fun place to come: my one disappointment is that it took me two years to get there! I've been to several mediocre Irish pubs, and this was miles above them.
I love this place. Â If I was making more money I would definately be a regular. Â They have various tastings every Monday. Â It's fun. Â Very good food. Â The small plates were made to perfection. Â Quiz night on Tuesdays they say is very popular. Â I plan on coming more often to sample their menu as I've heard lots of great recommendations.
We popped in for brunch early Sun. and the bartender was blasting pop music from either an ipod or the radio. Â She quickly threw on the 'business' track of Irish tunes I'm guessing is making the staff suicidal. Â There were a couple of slips by the waiter but he was nice, poor thing. Â The Irish potato pancakes taste frozen but decent. Â Home fries were surprisingly good, ate them all. Â Omelettes are huge and bacon delish. Â Indulge twice a year on a breakfast this big. Â They give you huge glasses of OJ which I appreciated being that most places only give you a shot glass full. Â
And I had my Bloody Mary cherry popped. Â Amazing. Â It had a base of generic bottled mix but the rest of the ingredients made it pretty great. Â So I will def come back for another. Â
The place is very warm, cozy and classy. Â Everything inside was very clean- no scuzzy tables or dusty anything! Â Which is a plus. Â Though if you go too early it may reek of bleach.
Wish I was a little closer by, I'd be there about atleast once a week if I could.
The Dubliner is a great Irish pub! Always chill and laid back, I love the atmosphere here! Saturdays do get a bit crowded, obviously.
The food is good, the curry fries are excellent and I don't like curry all that much! The irish spring rolls are very very tasty. Also their wings, although they could have a bit more heat to them. They have mild or raging hot lol. I'd love an in between balance between the two. They're a great size, not puny!
I've had dinner here a number of times and remember it being good. We used to go for their Pub quiz and get half price apps on Tuesdays, fun even though we always felt dumber after!
Always a favorite!
Dubliner is good craic!
This place used to a pub called "Dickens" and has not strayed from that theme.
A real live Dubliner is the owner/operator of the place and has built a loyal following
The furnishings are authentic, imported from Ireland, with a menu to match. Classic pub fare and a few originals to keep it interesting by CIA grad Chef George.
Always a nice variety on tap (23 in all) not limited to Irish labels. Dogfish Head, Brooklyn, Ommegang, Â among others. This is the only place north of White Plains I have ever seen Brooklyn Monster Ale on tap.
Good food! Fish and Chips, bangers and mash, the "Jameson" burger, curry fries, yum!
Very laid back place to spend time with friends, one of my favorites.

After hearing stories about their yummy fries with curry and good beer's ,i came here craving for some good music. And oh boy i was lucky as hell!!
A band called the "Deep Fried" were performing, and they were playing Aerosmith, and other famous tracks. The guitarist was bloody amazing,i would say he had the fingers which would move faster than a jet and an attitude which was mind blowing. The band was great with a talented singer and a good drummer.
The place was packed and everyone were standing and kinda head banging. It was a cheerful crowd.which got me more excited! The place was kinda dim and they had tables and stools of all sizes which was kinda funny and cute.
There were couches, and then there were bar height tables and chairs and soon there were tiny tables and chairs.Maybe they had an "EAT ME" biscuit like " Alice in Wonderland".
A good place with talented music bands,i hope all their weekends are as good as this one.
Dubliner , you have created a silver lining in Poughkeepsie!! :)

I love this place! Its a very warm and friendly space, right on Main Street, popular with locals and Vassar students, since its within walking distance. They always have a nice selection of beer, especially on tap, and they make good cocktails for approx. $6 each. Specials vary according to weeknight, and they'll have different musical acts performing, but its a fun, chill place to relax. And the owner is very friendly, especially if you come in a big group - he might even bring out a basket of fries with their amazing curry sauce as a welcome!
