Was up at Red Ridge Ranch, and me and my daughter where hungry after our ride. Â We read the reviews above, and where a bit hesitant but she wanted Chinese.
When we walked in, a waitress and hostess where sitting at a table and cutting the tips off of a crate of fresh green beans (I took that as a good sign that the vegetables where fresh).
I started with an egg role, a crab Rangoon and a cup of hot and sour soup and a cream cheese stuffed mushroom. Â The egg roll was good, with a crispy outside and flavorful inside. Â The crab Rangoon was very good. Â The mushroom was ok, but a little watery for my taste. Â I am a huge fan of hot and sour soup, but most restaurants leave me a little flat. Â The hot and sour soup here would rate with some of my favorites! Â My daughter also loved it and got two bowls.
I then moved to the main courses. Â The fried rice was ok, but not great. Â My daughter liked the noodle. Â We both had a number of the chicken dishes and they were great. Â I had some port, seafood and vegetable dishes and everything was prepared well and tasty. Â We both went back for seconds.
I finished off with some bandana pudding, which was obviously made from scratch. They had a number of items for desert including ice-cream.
I would definitely go back the next time we are up in the dells area.
The food is never fresh. Ever. The rice is dry and hard. It seems like the food was all made the week before and microwaved. I live less than half a mile away, and if my wife and I want chinese, we'll still drive out of town to get it.
Most of the staff is really nice, but one waitress picked up my one year old and started walking away. I don't think I've ever been so mad at a waitress. I will never be going back.
This is my family's choice for Chinese food anytime! Â The buffet has a wide selection, and crab legs are available nightly along with many other great seafood choices. Â Their new location is closer to the highway and the main road so it's easy to find. Â Save room also for a variety of deserts including hand-dipped ice cream. Â If you're not in the mood for a buffet, they also offer a full menu as well, including take out.
Review Source:Not a bad place at all! Â While vacationing up here over Labor Day weekend, some friends and I were looking to rent a movie, and noticed that there was a Chinese Food place right next door. Â So we opted to try it out.
When we walked in, we noticed it was also a buffet and the price looked very reasonable. Â Now, we didnt want to sit down, as we had a friend still back at the cabin, so we needed to get the food to go - and they actually had a full menu for to-go options.
The food was great. Â I had a spicy shrimp dish - extra spicy; others got Chicken Cashew, Sesame Chicken, and Shrimp Lo Mein. Â Everything was actually really good. Â For being off the beaten path and in the middle of no where the food as well worth it. Â The prices were also very reasonable and the service was very quick. Â I would go back here again when visiting anytime.
I happened upon Mauston simply because I was pursuing a carwash. After popping up my GPS, I saw that the surrounding area offered a wealth of food options. Passing on the massively nation-wide chain restaurants, I opted for the Eastern Chinese Restaurant.
I originally planned on getting something off the menu as they had some interesting things. There was some type of Bean Curd prepared in a style that I had not heard of and some type of Vegetarian potato dish. I glanced over and noticed they had a buffet going however and for the price of $7.50(including drink), I figured I'd give it a go.
I'm not usually a fan of typical Chinese buffets. As a vegetarian, it is incredibly hard to understand what contains meat or not. Bean curd/textured vegetable proteins look just like any typical meat when put in a sauce. When I asked the waitress what contained meat or not, there was an obvious language barrier as she started pointing to everything and just telling me the names. I could tell she couldn't really tell what I was asking so I gave up and went with what I knew obviously was vegetarian in appearance.
The buffet offered most of the typical things I've found. Vegetable Lo Mein and Vegetable Egg Foo Yung. In addition, they did have egg-drop soup. There was also some non-traditional chinese buffet items such as potato stir fry(not too great) and something that looked exactly like Green Giant Cheesy Vegetable steamers(I am quite sure that is what it was.) It had the same exact looking sauce and typical size of the vegetables. Irregardless, I don't really want cheese in my chinese cuisine so I passed.
What I did eat, it was OK. There was some sushi that was vegetarian but it was just because it lacked fish in the certain slice. It just lacked a real amount of options and without labels, I didn't want to try anything else. Had I not been restricted by my diet preferences or ordered off the menu, I am sure it would have been 3 stars but from what I experienced, it was just OK. The vegetables weren't really that fresh tasting and seriously...cheesey vegetables in a buffet? Just weird. The value wasn't bad and the fact they had sushi lifted it a little.
