Outstanding service. The she crab soup is better then the she crab soup I've had in Charleston. The blackened red fish is great. A must try. The seafood in the Oriental Chinatown Express was very fresh and great tasting. The Chef came out to the table to meet us, discuss food allergies, and answer any questions about the menu. The Chef came out after the dinner to see how the food was. I love this personal touch. This restaurant is great!
Review Source:My husband and I were there for our wedding anniversary, and I would say that, overall, we had a good time. Â There were some highs, but there were also some lows about the evening.
We were given glasses of water with watermelon chunks in them (as opposed to the usual lemon wedge). Â I guess it was an interesting idea in theory, but just not a good idea in reality. Â The watermelon wasn't fresh, so it actually gave the water a subtle but slightly rancid flavor. Â I had a glass of iced tea, so I simply stopped drinking it, but my husband had to ask for a glass without the watermelon.
Our server brought us a basket of warm, cheesy, crusty bread with a jar of pesto. Â SO YUMMY. Â My husband asked for extra because he loved it so much!
I started off with the grilled oysters for an appetizer and I really liked it. Â The oysters were plump and juicy, not overcooked. Â I liked that they were simply flavored with parsley, garlic and salt. Â I sopped up the juices with some of my bread. Great job.
Our entrees were probably the low point of the evening. Â I had the colossal gulf shrimp redwine, while my husband had the ribeye. Â My dish actually tasted really good, but it was SWIMMING in oil/butter. Â I literally stopped eating after about 5 bites because all the grease kinda grossed me out. Â My husband said his ribeye was cooked well, but the cut just seemed too fatty. Â Now I know that a ribeye is not a lean cut by any stretch of the imagination, but his cut was literally almost 1/3 fat!!!
For dessert, we shared the chocolate flourless torte which was divine. Â It was moist and just as "chocolatety" as I wanted it to be. Â I think it might be a bit heavy for one person to have, but it was just the right amount for us because we shared it.
We ended up paying just over $100, including the tip, but considering that I ordered an appetizer, and my husband had a glass of wine, I think the prices are pretty reasonable.
We will come back and give it another try at some point.
Fresh, LOCAL produce. Â Prime meats and seafoods. Â Super-Creative Chef! Â
Superb bar.
This restaurant has Big City flair and outstanding food.
We opened with drinks, and they did not disappoint. Â No skimping!
Then we had a trio of soups ~ every one was distinct and delicious.
Do NOT expect to see the same menu twice. Â Surely the chef repeats certain items, but generally every night's menu depends upon what the chef liked that day.
The chef is very approachable and friendly. Â The waitstaff are amazing. Â Our party of six ordered from the menu, but every person asked for some particular personalization of their order. Â For example, I asked for the entree from one menu item and the sides from a different one. Â The waitress did not write down a single thing; and every person got precisely what they had ordered. Â At the end, the checks were exactly correct.
If you aren't into sauces and dressings, simply ask for them "on the side".
The prices are totally reasonable.
While Oak Ridge doesn't have much to offer in dining-out, only a couple of Knoxville restaurants warrant the drive. Â Echo is worth the drive.
My friends and I scheduled a ladies night and met at Echo. The wine was expensive (good selection) but the service was great. The waitress talked me into trying the steak Tartare and it was awesome. When one of the women arrived late, the chef came out and promised to get her order out immediately.
I would have liked some cool "wine bar music" to complete the experience, but  will definitely go there again.
I ate here on a Thursday night using a Knoxville Lifestyle Coupon (50% off). The atmosphere is very pleasing and the restaurant is well kept as it's only been open 2 years. The restaurant was moderately busy and I started off with a very full glass of bourbon with a heavy pour. They provide fresh bread with pesto sauce that is very good. I then went with the Iceberg Wedge (which is pictured on yelp) which was also very good. My entrée was the lamb chops which were very big. The portions were very big and cooked perfectly. The cook stopped by the table a couple times to check up on me and the waiter was very attentive. I will definitely be dining here again in the near future.
Review Source:My husband and I visited his parents in Knoxville and we wanted to go somewhere special to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. She got this place recommended so we gave it a try.
I ordered the halibut and it was pretty decent although everything on the plate pretty much lacked salt. My hubby and mother-in-law orderered the Masala chicken and it was even worse in term of flavor... nada... it was so blend!! We specified it was a birthday we were celebrating and the restaurant didn't do anything special:(
I found the price way too high for the food we got. Nothing too crazy to rave about, we had cheaper and much tastier dishes in DC...
Most probably we will not go back to Echo.
Good atmosphere, wait staff gets a bit harried as the evening picks up with dining clientele, but the food was very good; soup du jour, N.E. Clam Chowder was very well done, the spinach salad with crab meat was a nice combination of flavors and textures and the 'steak diane' had a wonderful demi glace with a complimentary truffled mashed potato which blended well with the beets. Say Hi! to Seth, the Executive Chef who has been a fixture in Knoxville for over thirty years.......bon apetit...
Review Source:Straight-up I'm giving them 3 stars because they just opened, there is room for improvement, and there was not an option to give them 2 and 1/2 stars.
The bread here tastes like it sat in the frozen section at Sam's way to long. Â It was not very good.
Here is what I tried: Â Shrimp cocktail, trio of soups, trio of salads, escargot, bison, beef wellington, and the classic mangoes cigar dessert.
Shrimp cocktail - the slaw that was served with this in a martini glass was okay but the shrimp themselves were not good.
Trio of Soups - French Onion soup was way off, asparagus (the one I liked the most but still not great), and a salmon chowder of some sort. Â None of these were great.
Trio of Salads - my favorite part about this was the large tomato that came with the wedge, the caesar was just okay, and the last one was a spinach and crab meat salad with diced eggs. Â You could not tell a difference between the crab and eggs because there was so much dressing on this salad.
Escargot - was all wrong. Â Sauce was way to heavy. Â It tasted to be frank, SICK.
Bison - was extremely tough, and not that flavorful.
Beef Wellington - mashed potatoes were cold and chunky. Â Where I come from Beef Wellington is served in a pastry not 2 little pastry like crisps standing by the beef. Â I was one of the only females at the table and they served me this first. Â I waited between 5-10 minutes for them to bring out everyone else in the party's entrees. Â That is a bit ridiculous. Â You cannot expect me to dig into my plate with a table full of men waiting for their food. Â Echo you need to work on that.
Mango's Classic Cigar Dessert - this was actually decent. Â I like the idea that they put this dessert on their menu allowing the late Kenny Siao who owned the restaurant Mango, which was in this spot for years, credit for his work. Â It is definitely a sign of respect and a great marketing technique.
Prices are reasonable, staff was friendly, service wise they need to step it up. Â I saw a table trying to get a servers attention because they were served a soup without a spoon. Â I really want this restaurant to succeed. Â There needs to be more competition in the Bearden area and I like this place. Â I have always loved that location.
I will go back to this place again because like I said, I want this place to succeed. Â Don't try any of the items I have listed but try something else. Â It might be better. Â Enjoy and Cheers.
