Four of us were there last Friday night, we played pool for about 4 hours, we had two 50oz size 8 ball beer bongs, 2 bottles of beer, nachos- Huge serving w/lotsa cheese sauce and jalapenos, orders of teriyaki & buffalo wings served "temperate HOT" which is excellent, our bill was $109 plus we gave a twenty dollar tip because of a sweetie name Vanessa who took very good care of us during the evening.
Where else can you have good family fun for that price? Â Looks like a family business, place is clean, bathroom, too...(my biggest peeve if the bathroom is yuk, the place is yuk!), alot of pool tables, nice hip hop music from the juke box, too!
Highly recommend this place and will definitely go back.
this place is pretty cool..all pool tables n nothing else..plenty of room..i went to DnB and it was packed..this place is cheap..i think? $14 bucks for two people for an hour..not bad..I forgot the rate after..It's by minutes..but overall not too bad. Decent music and it wasn't hard to fine. I def would come back again, they also serve food if you're into that stuff. They close at 4am so that was cool, and I was there around 8..so not bad at all, friendly staff!
Review Source:This place is alright.
It's pretty close to my house and open late. I can't really compare the price to other places because I don't ever really pay attention to how long I'm there. But I'm guessing this place is pretty cheap.
The workers are nice. I think I usually catch the owners while they are working. Seems like a family business.
I really do wish they had music playing all the time. Not a fan of jukebox joints but every now and then they play music from the counter. And there's an EDM fan back there too.
It can get really hot when they start cooking. The oven heats up the place real good.
I actually wish the lights were a little dimmer.
Still want to get that 8ball beer dispenser one day.
pretty below average billiards, on the right side is 3 ball cushion and on the left is mainly 8/9 ball pocket. The pocket tables close to the front desk are real nice, and probably only available to patrons only. the far end and some middle table needs work done, the felt and cue sticks are dull and i don't think Edgies manager isn't going to fix them because mainly casual players don't know proper billiards etiquette. jumping the ball or masse shots arent allowed either. pricing is pretty average, plenty of parking, lots of high schoolers go here and smokers cant read the no smoking sign in front of door. no music unless you pay the jukebox, no air conditioner either.
Review Source:I love coming to edgies but for some reason we never just go to edgies. For my group of friends its always been an in between bars place. We go to one bar, then play some pool, then go to another bar. Ive rarely have to wait for a table, and if I do they have plenty of beer to help pass the time.
The snacks could be better though.
Another establishment that's been around for ages! Â Brings back memories...
They have all sorts of pool tables from your standard to the no pocket tables, large space venue, random arcade games off to the side and a music jukebox. Â They serve beer and random ballpark snacks.
Not a bad place to shoot some game!
The place has plenty of tables and their prices to play are fair. The employees are always really nice and respectful and I believe it is family owned. There's several TV's to watch whatever sports are on and it is definitely a great place to chill for a night. The price of the food however is above average and the portions are either small or their food is average quality. I do recommend the Garlic Fries. They also have several drafts on tap.
The place is also great for parties, they rent you out 6 tables in a corner which can be separated with a curtain. You're allowed to bring your own food, catered or potluck, but you have to buy all liquor and soda from them. You're also allowed to bring speakers for music opposed to paying for each single song from their jukebox.
I'd give em 4 stars for the hosting of a party, but 3 stars for regular visits.
Not a bad spot. Tons of tables, and an all around kick back place for friends and family to gather around. Â I personally love people watching, and hot a rise out of couples, and other young bucks (i'm one too!) were doing. Â The place is low key, a little 'hole in the wall' like, and a tad difficult to find. Â But for me tonight was all about my company. Â I was in great company so I wasn't too focused on this spot's flaws. Â I loved the light up bear dispenser. There are tons of tables and sticks and balls. Â Ha... I made a funny.
But seriously the place is chill, dim lighting, low key, but CLEAN from what I could see; which is a HUGE plus!
I give 3 stars because I really am not a fan of the interior. Â That's it. Just the interior hasn't been updated in a good 30 years. Â Yuck! Â All else is great tho!
2 stars. Why? Because it was so QUIET.
It wasn't until after we played an hour of quiet pool and decided to leave that they played music. Â I guess someone has to pay the jukebox to play music, which, honestly, I think is lame. Â I went to Masses Billiards and Sports Bar in Walnut Creek 2 nights beforehand which was way better because it was lively, didn't put me to sleep, and had a good selection of hard liquor and beer compared to this place. Â I also wrote a review for that place you can check out.
Yeah Edgie's Billiards is pretty big with a lot of tables, so you can come here to play if you're in the Milpitas area. Â But like the 2 star rating states. "Meh. I've experienced better."
Edgies was the place to go to shoot the breeze and some pool with my best bud. Â We had our endless issues about school, girls, and whatever else we talked about.
Always tried to come in on Monday (student discounts, hurray!) as it is a bit pricey for regular pool-goers.
We would usually go when the atmosphere was pretty quiet-not a lot of people around before the nights and it was thoroughly relaxing to not have a bunch of thuggish looking asian dudes eying you as if you were doing something suspicious. Â Just here to play some pool, yo!
The snacks are way expensive, just go and buy a drink and a bag of chips from 7-11 or something. Â The games go well-no real complaints about the tables or sticks.
I went to some other pool place nearby and something wasn't right.
I'm no master of the cue, but either the sticks aren't straight or the table ain't smooth... but these balls would not go in...
So I find this place on Yelp.
Drop by around 8pm after dinner with my family.
Mother was a hesitant about coming to a pool hall, but hey, as long as the family is doing something together, right mom?
Siblings and cousin take one table and my aunt, dad, and I take another.
My auntie... a 53 year old woman who is barely to my shoulder in height kicked my ass in pool;
sure it was close, but nonetheless, a kick to the ass is a kick to the ass no matter how light.
On the bright side, my dad beat her :)
We play for an hour.
Final cost- about $34 for two tables.
Edgies is pricier than the other place I went to, but the tables are nicer and cues are better!
Totally worth it.
Random things I noticed:
Lots of Asians up in San Jose...
good amount of cute ones play here.
The dude behind the counter had "I AM INFANTRY" on his right bicep.
This place doesn't smell the the burnt end of a cigarette :)
My other choice of billiards along with SC Billiards. I feel that Edgie's is a decent place to shoot pool. I can't say it is better or worse than SC Billiards because I feel they excel in the areas that the other place doesn't. Edgie's is obviously more of a local spot as it is a hole in the wall off the beaten path in an industrial/commercial area. However, don't let that scare you away.
Edgie's has cheap prices on just about everything from their snacks, beer, and hourly rates. The beer selection is actually good and you get alot for the amount you pay. They offer Blue Moon on tap which is a good enough reason on its own. Definitely better for the budget minded pool shark and you can expect a younger crowd with these prices.
However, the condition of a lot of the tables and equipment are not really up to par and the decor is more rundown and old. Otherwise it is a good place to play some cheap pool and have fun without spending too much.
I've been going to Edgie's ever since high school whenever I felt like playing pool with a group of friends. From then to now, it's been consistent on the most part. There are 20+ tables and there's adequate space to play pool. There's also a jukebox where you can choose songs to play to get you in the "zone". Personally, I hate it when I get into a rhythm and all of a sudden I hear a mariachi song.
The staff here is pretty nice overall; never had any major problems with this place. If you're lucky, you'll see some pretty Asian girls, dudes mean mugging you, and at least one cute female staff member. They also serve beer and food here; apparently their garlic fries are really good. The hourly rates are pretty fair, and the tables/sticks are in solid shape. Great place to go to if you want to chill with friends and just relax.
If you're bored and want to stay in Milpitas, go to Edgie's.
I always order a slice of pizza . The juke box has a really great selection of music and people *usually* pick good stuff. I can't say much about the quality of the sticks n' balls, being a novice, but everything seemed fine to me.
There is always a diverse cluster of people here and generally the people who have experience playing aren't complete dicks, which is a major plus.
If you have a nice car, park next to empty spaces. The parking lot can be a bit... shady.
I've been to about five pool halls around the bay area including this one. I don't think it's very fair to judge an establishment based on the customers that happen to be there. If you're uncomfortable, what are they going to do? Regardless though, it has a very relaxing atmosphere especially if you're a gamer or a sports junkie. While this may not apply to me, it has one thing that the other places don't have: 3-ball tables.
It has the modernized juke box for recent music and the owner is gentleman that sort of resembles the bartender from the old show "Cheers" because he'll probably remember your name. It's a good pool hall considering the number of tables and the prices aren't too bad. The only complaint would be the pool sticks, so if you have your own, you shouldn't have a problem or just look carefully before it messes your game.
I haven't been to Edgie's since the 90's! I here it's a more diverse crowd now... which is great! Back than... It felt more like it was Asian (Gang Related) territory! I couldn't help but notice fools dog me for no reason! Everyone chewed on toothpicks, sported a pony tail and played pool in wife beaters while their girls in cheap mini skirts looked mad bored! More people went to Edgies back than to look hard than play pool!
The best part: Rice Rockets galore! The parking lot was packed with Honda Civics and Acura Inegra's! Lowered with rims and a big spoiler in the back! It looked like a Honda dealership!
My buddies and I come here ALL THE TIME to shoot some pool, listen to some music, and eat some snacks while were playing. What I love about this place is that , majority of people have great taste in music. When someone puts on Hotel California by The Eagles, you can hear everyone singing along to it and that song is played A LOT. The food here is delicious as well and the pricing isn't so bad.
Pros - The Garlic Fries here are REALLY GOOD. I always order a few plates of it because that plate of fries goes away so fast when you have a bunch of dudes picking at it. There are always tables for you to play on. No smoking allowed inside so there is actually breathing room. Lotta pretty girls come too so you have eye candy.
Cons - You can't bring in your own beverages or food. There's a lot of gangster looking people who come in and stare. A lot of people leave their trash on the tables when there are trash bins EVERYWHERE. There also is always parking too. Except one half of the parking looks like place to get your car stolen.
The owners are REALLY nice and friendly. My friends and I got to know them. It's a real great Ma and Pa place i think. Big Tony and Momma Sue are the owners. I REALLY recommend getting the Garlic Fries. It is D E Licious 5 Star hands down.
This place is off the beaten path, its located on a corner in an industrial area. The place is a little dark, but then what pool hall isn't.
They sport 2 snookers tables, 2 billiards table and a whole lot of  pool tables.
I like it here because the owner and his staff are really friendly and make you feel welcome when you come in. Also, while you are waiting at the counter you can check out their vast display of fishing photos.
If you come here you should check out their Garlic Fries, the aroma can be quite distracting. You start to hear tummies grumbling and as a plate walks by you might miss your shot as you stare at them. They have extended their food menu to make it more "healthy" for us beer drinkers watching our waist line.
This is a good place to check out, because it is large and clean. They are part of the APA and also host tournaments on weekly bases. On certain night they have student special and family rates.
JV's first time playing pool and JQ's well experience in this leisure activity made for a very cute date.
No no, we did not do all those lean over one another bits that you see in movies or shows. Instead it was one of those, "I'll teach you how to play, and then we'll work as a couple when you get better" type things.
As for the place, well, it does not compare to that of the newer billiards place in downtown. Its a bit run down with random old computers and TVs lining the ramp to the cashier/ store. When we arrived, there was mostly 40 year old males playing, while the younger crowd came in much later into the night.
It got pretty warm inside due to the open aired cooking space when people ordered food, so barely any ventilation. I did love the juke box. Basically, this place reminded me of the old pool halls back in the 90's.
For ~$8 an hour and not per person, you can enjoy shooting some pool with good company.
Kool place to go when theres nothing else to do or nowhere else open.
Me N my best friend Jenny used to go here all the time after work and play until the early morning hours. We would go here so much, they started to know me by name. Then when this place closes in the morning we went over to Lyons and sometimes were there til 4,5,6 in the morning or whenever the sun started to rise.Too bad theyre shut down now.Anyways,Edgies is always filled with a bunch of tough looking guys and guys who look like Taka Michinoku. There could be 1 guy or 50 guys that look like Taka, depending on what time you go.But one is a gurantee at any hour of the day.
The only negatives about this place are that the tables are old,the sofa seats are gutted and its a little pricey to play by the hour and drink.Other than that, its kool.
I love Edgies. Of course It's not the nicest pool hall but the owners and the workers are all extremely nice. They all started to recognize me and my friends after about our third time going there. The night crowd is a bit younger than usual but there is still a variety of people who go to play. I do notice that most of the younger crowd are Asian but that makes me feel like I fit in. xD
My boyfriend and I started to go there about 5 times a week and we were paying around $80 each night we were there. We ended up paying for their monthly membership which is $150 per person for unlimited play.
It's a hassle to drive to milpitas from dublin just to play pool but I just love it too much.
I have been here a few times and I never really liked any of my experiences here. It is definitely what the other user calls "janky". One of the reasons for this is because the place is entirely invitingly well-lit. Parts of it are lit with a yellow-ish light that doesn't provide warmth but kind of just floods the area, and other parts have dim lighting that makes the place look dingy. They are quite expensive as well for the same thing that you could get elsewhere.
Their tables are definitely in need of a re-vamp as they are typically not smooth and sometimes have holes so you aren't really getting a good game out of it.
Finally ... the crowd there resembles my high school ... so not a place I would hang out at too often or again given that there are better choices.
Nice place, fun times.
I don't see why everyone freaks out and says theres a weird vibe.
Maybe it's just me.
I like to head there after dinner and shoot a few games with my buddies.
I like to be there when the owner is. Really nice guy, helps me out alot.
I perfer this place over every other pool hall.
Nice tables, awesome house cue sticks, nice balls, lighting is perfect.
Assuming you:
1) Aren't from Milpitas, or
2) Have no significant history in Milpitas
then I encourage you to come here on a nondescript Sunday afternoon, order a beverage, sit down in the only area you can sit, watch, and absorb. Â What a weird vibe. Â Never threatened, but felt naked without my Glock. Â Word.
It's a fairly decent pool place. The place seems to be going through phases though..
Before, it used to be the place for all the racers. then it turned into THE spot for Vietnamese people.. then it became a place for all the Fobs. I'm not sure what it is now.. hahaha.
.. but I will always have good memories of staring at all the older, cuter boys when I was but a wee little girl.
Edgie's is a decent pool hall. Â Their prices are more reasonable than some other pool halls in the South Bay, which is great since I like to play for a solid several hours. Â However, their tables and surrounding chairs are a little tattered and need some maintenance, and their pool cues need to be cleaned a little more often. Â It's a big pool hall with plenty of tables, so even when it's crowded, the wait isn't unbearable. Â The clientele has improved since the high school days, but every once in a while those groups of kids that come just to be rowdy and loiter still show up.
In the end, I still return to Edgie's now and then mainly for the location, as it is the only decent pool hall in the 680/northern 880 side of the South Bay. Â There is also a definite nostalgia factor to shooting pool at Edgie's that made me want to give it another star (but I resisted!), since I used to hang out at Edgie's in high school. Â Yes, I used to hang out with THAT crowd. Â ;)
This pool place is a little hidden if you are not familiar with the area. Â The parking lot at night is not very well lit. Â I suggest parking closer to the entrance and not the back parking row because it's super dark back there.
Inside, you'll hear music playing and it's fairly loud but not annoyingly loud. Â The pool tables are in okay condition. Â If you're not a regular here, you'll get looks from people playing (the regulars I suppose). Â It doesn't really bother me though, because I'm just there to shoot some pool and not having to worry about anybody else.
They serve food and drinks here but I've never ordered anything. Â There are high tables near each pool table so you can eat while waiting for your turn to play. Â A few of the back pool tables have sofas to sit on.
The first time I came here, I felt a little uncomfortable because of the appearance of the exterior and the people outside. Â However, after coming here a few times, it's not as bad as the first impression I had. Â You'll get used to the atmosphere - at least I did.
ITS LIKE "CHEERS" - where EVERYONE knows your name... i love this place and sorta grew up here... if ever i find myself stuck in a hard place - i can always drop by edgie's and say hello to a few friends, drink a round of beers or so, and play a good drunken game of pool.
uncle tony and aunt sue are awesome pool hall owners that welcome everyone from all different walks of life to join them in some good conversation, they pay attention to detail and they know how to treat their patrons like family - well enough to cook a thanksgiving dinner each year and share it with their customers! Â - now thats love. Â =)
My favorite pool hall!
Used to be one gangsta ass hang out. But the whole gangster phase in San Jose has died down. Now this place is more aimed towards families and friends. My friend Derek aka Big D works here and is always hooking it up with the works. Come see him sometimes ladies..he's single.
How to be a walking Malpitas stereotype:
1. Finish pWning fools at Counter-Strike. Not that it's fun anymore. F*cking hax0rs!
2. Roll with your homies to Edgie's. Â Bros before hoes yo.
3. Try not to get stabbed. Mix it up with some Tekken 3 action. Â
4. When you're all done get your ass over to Lions Plaza or McCarthy Ranch for some pearl tea. Â That's "pearl" folks, not "boba."
5. Rinse & repeat.
Based on the true story of my life.
Friend A flies down from Seattle to Sunnyvale on business. Â Haven't seen him in years. Â Another friend and I drive down to see him. Â We decided to go shoot. Â A's like oh, there's a pool hall like a block away. Â We're like, sorry, we're going 12 miles to Edgie's instead. Â Why?
Heated billiard tables. Â "Whoa, it's warm!"
We had a lot of fun. Â It's a pretty clean place though not quite a pool hall feel. Â Lots of pool tables as well as six billiards. Â They had a little of everything: tv with a couch in front, computer, arcade games, juke box (I think?) but they could have used a foosball table. Â Decent beers on tap, and a pretty cheap menu.
FYI, if you have one of those car nav systems like my friend, and it says you're there and you aren't, keep going forward for a few blocks and it's on the right :P
This place reminds me of the infamous pool hall in El Monte, CA where the Wah Ching vs. Azian Boyz shootout occurred. That scene is one of the most famous recorded homicides of all time, replayed countless times on America's Most Wanted. It isn't so much the way Edgie's looks, but rather it's the patrons. On any given night, you are bound to run into a grip of young men and women with, as 'Lil Wayne would say, "Bodies marked up like the subway in Harlem."
However, that is what gives it character. Pool halls have never been associated with wholesome, family fun anyways. As long as you don't go in there trying to get your mack on with one of the countless Masuimi Max imitators, or thinking you are starring in the Color of Money, hustling everybody, people tend to mind their own business.
Truth be told, these guys may look intimidating, but they are actually decent, respectful people. Upon entering, make sure you check your stereotypes at the door. Just don't act a fool, walking in there like you are hot *ish* sporting a wife beater, and everything should be okay.
As far as the pool hall itself goes, I would say that it's on the higher end of the spectrum. It isn't one of those cheap little dives, but is rather upscale. The tables, balls, and cues are very well maintained, and the whole atmosphere is clean. The sound system is also top notch, and is never cranked up too loud. Lighting is not too bright or dim, and is what I would consider to be perfect.
In a nutshell, if you interested in playing a nice game of pool with a group of friends, this is the finest the North Valley/South County area has to offer . As long as you keep your boys in check, hopefully the only shooting going on will be on the table.
