I absolutely LOVE this place.
The food is delicious and the staff is always friendly and attentive.
I have very high standards for biscuits and gravy and theirs are incredible!
The coffee is a little weak - Coffee is extremly important to me and this stuff just isn't up to par.
The atmosphere is very open and welcoming, I love the funny quotes they have hung!
Um, no.
Do not order food here, sit down here or otherwise entertain the notion of spending your hard earned money here. Â Disappointment abounds.
Sausages are grossly grey colored, unevenly cooked (charred to under done), and look like meat sponges of grease. Â Meat. Sponges. Grease.
Grits came in a..... Styrofoam cup. Obviously microwaved. CFCs in your food anyone?
When I asked about iced coffee the waitress said, "we're not that cool."
Well, that pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? Â I wish I had that hour of my life back.
Would have given 5 stars if the coffee wasn't so watered down, but the food was amazing! Â But, I have to have excellent coffee to rate a breakfast joint a 5.
I went here today with my boyfriend. Â We were in search for a different place to have breakfast and we both have been wanting to try this place. Â First off, the waitress was great with giving suggestions as it was our first experience there. Â Very sweet and attentive.
He had the Brett Farve, a country style skillet with sausage, gravey, fresh chunky sauteed onions and green pepper over hashbrowns and scrambled eggs on top. Â He gobbled it down and I had a forkful, it was quite tasty.
I had the Santa Fe omelette which was great as well. Â Just like the skillet, it had fresh cut veggies in it and not minced up mush like some other breakfast places. Â With both of our orders we got fresh baked, thick cut bread. Â I, the rye, he, the white. Â Both were a nice change from the regular sliced loaves you buy at the store.
We will definately be back, however we might have to visit the starbucks next door to bring in some better coffee.
My friend and I have a tradition of stopping here on our way to Chicago, but the last two experiences are not as good as the first.
First I have to say the food is very good. My omelet was lovely. Bacon was perfect.
Unfortunately it took about 40 minutes for the eggs to appear. And while the coffee was fine, there was only artificial cream. Sorry but imitation cream is a deal breaker for me and we won't be returning.
the two stars are for the manager, who was appalled at the service we received and offered to comp our meal, and the food, which wasn't so bad. The lack of stars is due to the fact that we waited fifteen minutes for our server to even come to our table, and take our order which she did so gruffly, and then we waited forty five-- that's right 45 minutes for our food to come out. We didn't order steaks or something that is difficult or time consuming. Then when we asked the waitress where our food was she informed us she had taken a while to put it in, because she was backed up. Not "I'm really sorry." But "I was really backed up so it took a long time to put your food order in. Sorry." And then when I breathed in she stayed there and stared at me as though it was my fault for her bad service. At which point my husband said yes, and she made a comment about how it appeared as though I was going to say something and blah blah blah. Which was completely rude, and had me so mad I was shaking. He went to complain because I hadn't done anything wrong at this point in time, except get hungry over the HOUR Â that we were there waiting for our food. Even at this point, I still had not been rude or mean, considering that we waited an hour food food that takes five minutes to cook.
In better news I will be back, as onece my husband complained about how badly I had just been treated we received a new server who was polite and quick and really on her game, and I believe the girl who was apparently having a bad day, was sent home. Because you know what, if you want to be a server you don't need to be surly, go work at a gas station. You can be rude there and no one cares.
OK, this is one of the worst places I have ever eaten, and I gave it two tries. The first time, a while back, I ordered the breakfast that came with pancakes. The pancakes were burned. I told the waitress. She said she was sorry but didn't offer to replace them. I said, I want pancakes that are not burned. She took them back and came back with new pancakes - also burned! As I was paying, I told the manager who couldn't have been less interested, didn't offer to take anything off my bill but offered me a free cup of coffee as I walking out!
Today I went back - it's been a long time, and I thought I should give it a second chance. Unbelievable. I ordered a skillet with poached eggs and it took over 15 minutes (in a virtually empty restaurant) because, the waitress said, they only had one cook and had to fill their take-out orders first.. I requested that the hash browns be well done. When it finally came, the toast was cold of course, the hash browns weren't really brown at all, and the eggs were more like hard-boiled. I sent them back (nicely) and after another 10 minutes the eggs came back smelling so foul (not rotten foul, foul because of what they were cooked in) I couldn't eat them. The waitress agreed that they stank, but again, no apology, no visit from the manager.
I paid my bill and left, and I will never return. This is a local restaurant for me, and it's just incredible that in this competitive climate they could be so incredibly bad. I should have figured something was up when it was lunch hour and the place was almost empty, with only a few people at the takeout. Â I'm glad the other reviewer had a good experience, but I encourage all of you to think twice before setting foot in there. Â One bad experience can happen. But that was over a year ago. Two bad experiences is a real red flag. Enter at your own risk!!!
Slowest service. Terribly rude wait staff. Eggs benedict had hard yolks. Â I mentioned to the waitress that i had waited 45 minutes for my breakfast and she said "I'm not the cook." Â and then she stared at me for a reaction. Â Then it came out and tasted terrible. Â Bad food, bad service, stay away. (About 6 other tables complaining too while we were there, two tables walked out).
Review Source:Do not stop here !!!
the food sucks, the water tastes fishy and the cook thinks the food should all be burnt
we are on our way to Detroit to see some friends and I see the sign for Star$$ so I take the exit to get coffee, and we check this place out on yelp it has almost all good reviews so we decide to get some breakfast
first the water didn't taste right I couldn't put my finger on it, but then the bf says the coffee tastes fishy wtf ? then I tell him you are right that is the taste I could not figure out as I have never had my coffee taste fishy before
I ordered the Chorizo scramble, it comes with bell peppers, onions and home fries and a couple eggs, the eggs were the only thing right, the Chorizo green peppers and onions were all burnt, I am sorry I don't like burnt food, and the home fries were under cooked, and then there was the nasty tasting coffee
and it wasn't just this place we went next door to Star$$ and got coffee, too bad for us we didn't try them till we got on the road they tasted fishy also must be the water, you can bet your bottom dollar we didn't stoop in this town on the way back
We stopped in for breakfast after camping for a few days at Indiana Dunes State Park, and getting ready to head home to Indianapolis.
Although the restaurant was busy, we were seated promptly and our server was capable and quick, despite being a bit harried.
Holly got the Zeppelin breakfast sandwich  (An egg sandwich with sausage and cheese served on a pretzel roll) and it was outstanding, she said.  She REALLY liked the pretzel roll.  One minor detail, the sandwich arrived without the cheese that is described on the menu, the server promptly took it back and brought it back in the correct form.
I ordered a combo breakfast  (I can't recall the name of it...eggs, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy) and it was good.  Not outstanding, mind you, but good.
Although it seems to be a breakfast oriented place, they do have a number of sandwiches on the menu and I'd certainly stop here for lunch next time through. Â It was an overall above average experience.
Egg on  Your Face is a pleasant place to eat.  The atmosphere is great - bright and cheerful with lots of windows and wood.  The place looks brand new.  Unfortunatly, the service seems to be like that of a brand new place.  Everyone is pleasant but they don't seem to know much about the food.  In addition, it was tough to get someone to pay attention to us except for periodic visits for the usual wait staff stuff.  We practically had to stand on our heads to get someone back to the table for coffee and condiments.
That said, the food was okay. Â I had the burrito and asked for little egg and mucho veggies. Â They complied and it was hot and crispy with a side of tasty salsa.
Mom had the eggs benedict - always risky. Â The 'Hollendaise' was actually chicken gravey with a slight lemony taste. Â Mom said it was good but I wouldn't have eaten it.
Egg on Your Face is relatively expensive for breakfast - $20 plus tip for two entrees and coffee. Â
I'll go back and next time try the cinnamon rolls.
We all know that there's not very many great places in Portage to go for a good breakfast, but this place helps to alleviate that problem. Â The concept is fun and original and the food is great! Â What I love from there, the breakfast sandwich on a pretzel roll... I don't remember the name of it, just that it's tasty! Â Seriously though, what's not tasty when put on a pretzel roll?? Â Also, the other great thing about this place is the mini carafe of coffee that they put at your table... Heaven sent for coffee addicts! Â Love it!!
Review Source:My family here for a quick bite to eat since it was right off the highway. It was actually a pretty decent place!
It was cold and snowing really hard outside, and walking in, it felt really nice. The place was well lit and nicely decorated, with a great wait staff. They immediatly seated us and took our orders.
The food was good too. I ordered an omelet, which came with toast and home fries. The portions were large enough and I felt very satisfied. My parents got the chicken sandwich. I tried half of one and thought the sandwich middle parts (grilled chicken, cheese, onions, etc), were good. The bread was a little dry.
All in all, definitely a good experience. I will stop by here every time I pass by on I-94 :)
We came in on a Sunday morning and even though they were very busy, we were seated in a matter of moments. Â Everything after that kinda went downhill. Â Looking at their menu, we were excited to not see your typical diner items. Â
You could tell our waiter was stressed due to the crowded restaurant. Â We ordered coffee but we waited almost 15 minutes to finally get it. Â We could see that tables were getting individual coffee thermos' for refills, but after 10 minutes of empty mugs on our table I had to flag down another waitress to bring us some more coffee. Â About 35 minutes had gone by since we were seated and our waiter finally came by and asked if we wanted our muffin before we got our food. Uh..., duh! Â My husband had ordered he banana nut muffin and we ended up splitting it, and devouring it in seconds because we were starving! Â
The food finally arrived and the crowd was dying down but the restaurant was still busy. Â Halfway through my husbands egg and pretzel bread sandwich, there were quite noticeable pieces of eggshell still on his egg. Â He set it to the side to show the waiter the next time he'd come by our table. Â When our waiter mentioned that he spoke with the owner about the problem he mentioned that she didn't say anything about it but that he'd deduct the cost of the muffin from our bill. Â HUH?!?!?! Â
We think the place has lots of potential, but I don't think we'd want to be back soon after our experience that day.
i went here for lunch with my family. i had the reuben. my brother had a salad and chili. the reuben was good. nothing super delicious or anything. this is kind of a cheesy diner with names of items like the Dan Quayle's Hot Rubbin Sandwich (the reuben) and the Chris Webber Steak & Eggs (the menu says you'll have to call a time-out after this feast).
it's a decent place and it doesn't seem like there's much selection in portage. i'd come back if i was in the area and wanted brunch. i think their breakfast foods might be more interesting, but we went around 1 pm and just had lunch.
