Steak burrito almost $10 and now you have to have a bill of $15 to use a credit card.As others have said this place has great food, high prices and a lack of customers.

Good place to eat if you are looking for a Mexican restaurant but the main issues is the price. The food is really good but not for what they are charging. I also order steak tacos or steak toastada. Go food never really busy. The downfall would be the price and the charge for more chips and salsa. But overall good place

I really appreciate authentic homemade Mexican food, el Mariachi apparently does too.

Practically living in the South suburbs it's sometimes difficult to find a good restaurant. Fortunately, this restaurant is located in (Torrence ave) a quite busy area.

Even thought, it's located in a busy avenue it really lacks of costumers. That's too bad, because the food is absolutely delightful. Something as simple as a Agua de Horchata (with powdered cinnamon on top) and their Burrito Suizo beats its local competitors.

Their Burrito Suizo it's almost twice as big as a standard burrito. I've also had a main course plate here (I can't remember the name) but I will never forget how good it tasted, It reminded me of food that my mother makes at home.

Despite of their authentic food this place has many down falls, such as, they'll charge for extra chips and salsa, this place has almost no business, and surprisingly the food is overpriced.

But I guess, the old' saying "you get what you pay for!" applies here.

I've been going here for years, the food is always fresh and delicious but the prices are a little high for the amount of food you get.

This is a fairly new Mexican restaurant in an area that has quite a few choices of Mexican cuisine.  We ate there for the 1st time Friday evening.  The place was clean and our server was friendly.  They have the usual assortment of Mexican dinners and 'by the item' fare.  I had the enchiladas suiza dinner -- flavorful without being too spicy. The only disappointment were the overly watery refried beans.  My partner had a combination plate with a tostada, enchilada and tamale with a taco on the side.  He enjoyed his choice, commenting on how fresh and flavorful everything was.  But the surprise of the meal was the guacamole -- the freshest, tastiest I've had in many years.  We had it for an appetizer and were glad to see another scoop on our dinner plates with the salad.  The margaritas didn't taste like the standard machine-made ones (couldn't see how they were made and the server didn't quite say...was just thrilled we liked them).  We'll definitely be returning.

I really enjoy El Mariachi. It is not the best Mexican food I have had, but I do feel that it is a bit more authentic than chain Mexican restaurants. Unlike others who have reviewed this restaurant, I have never experienced being charged for chips and salsa. The service is always good and they are very friendly. The portions are great and the food is always ready very quickly.

I'm a bit confused about how this place got ok reviews..I love El Mariachi..ok maybe I'm a bit biased because I used to work with a girl who's family owned this place, but regardless I was coming here before that little fact...
Maybe it's because where I've live there is no decent Mexican food around..but I'm always satisfies here..big ass place of loaded nachos..ok a little americanized type of food but so good :) I love their nachos! They do a good job there and on this side of the city, where else ya gonna get close to real Mexican food? Could be worse it's not like that area needs another Sharks chicken and fish or whatever is called LOL :)

I went here with coworkers for lunch and was not impressed. The food is not bad, but definitely overpriced for the area. There are 2 other Mexican restaurants in the area (Don Pedros and Coculas)-- both of which have pretty good food and priced a lot cheaper.

They give you chips and salsa with your food, but if you ask for more, they charge you extra. I've never heard of a Mexican restaurant charging customers extra for more chips and salsa.

I ordered their Steak Torta. For chicken and beef, it's $6.95 and for steak it's $7.95. Their food is overpriced and it's nothing special to make it stand out over others in the area. I will most likely not be going back to this place since I can get the same food within the vicinity for cheaper.

Being stuck living on the south side of Chicago where you have to drive 20 min out of your way because your neighborhood apparently only has a taste for McDonalds really blows. El Mariachi is the closest thing your going to get to Mexican anywhere around here. People choose this place over Coculas because it's more authentic, and the girls who work here are really nice, as opposed to the cold waiters across the street. Well I haven't been to Coculas in years but the food at El Mariachi is good, quick, and it does not have an annoying Saturday night crowd. It sucks that it's located in such a crapshoot of a neighborhood, and the only reason I pass through is to go to Indiana for cigarettes, and when I do, El Mariachi is good for me when I want a quick, cheap meal in a friendly environment, either there, or I go for Thai..these are the only 2 good places that are worth going to in a 10 mile radius. Sadly I will be saying goodbye to this place, because I heading north to where people are more cultured, and there are things to do and I'm not surrounded by idiots..but El Mariachi is a diamond in the rough here..thank god or else I'd just be at Harolds Chicken Shack with the rest of the people in my neighborhood!

El Mariachi, I wonder how you stay open with Cocula's across the street. Not that the food is bad. It's fine. But it's not amazing. Cocula's however, pretty damn tasty.

If you go to El Mariachi for dinner, they serve you chips and salsa and soup with your meal. Which they should, because for typical mexican fare with no ambiance when dining in, it's overpriced. They've got some descent specials from time to time, but I'll be spending my hard earned cash across the street where the food's a step above and the decor's 20 times better. Not to mention the service. It's like being in a grandmas kitchen in mexico who's constantly trying to fill something up on your table whether it's your drink or the chips. Guess I'll have to review Cocula's next.

Sorry El Mariachi, I know times are tough and everything costs a little more these days. That just means I expect a bit more for my money.
