Indy Cafe gets five stars from me. Â This unassuming little gem of a restaurant is surrounded by dingy auto repair facilities along a busy industrial thoroughfare. It is peculiar.
I had been driving by for several months. Â The sign is the only thing that I had noticed, and the sign sends off a tired greasy spoon vibe. I never gave it a second thought. OWNERS - Get rid of this sign. It is hurting your business.
Upon the advice of a business partner, I decided to give it a try today. I went with a group of 5 around the noon rush. There was a table for us and the service was polite and with a genuine smile. Â
I ordered the Chicken Pita and a side of fried pickles. The fried pickles were amazing. Our group agreed they were very tasty. Â My pita was excellent. The hummus was delicious and the Amish chicken was superb. I did not care for the chips as a side, I would of preferred a steamed veggie like asparagus.
The others in our group ordered a Choriozo sandwich which got excellent reviews as well as the fries and the tomato bisque soup. Every dish was clean because everyone finished every bite.
Great Job Indy Cafe! You are the type of restaurant that nearby sub par places (Loubies) wish to be. You're in my lunch rotation and for the first time I can finally say I had a decent meal in NWI.
All I can say is . . . WOW.  The best food I have had in the NW Indiana region.  The  menu changes daily, so keep coming back. Â
Came here with a group of work people for lunch, not expecting much. Â I was blown away. Â The service was PHENOMENAL!!! Â The waitress kept giving us samples of the different foods. Â Everything was extremely fresh and home made. Â After trying a number of the foods, I would recommend:
* Pastrami sandwich
* Chorizo / cheese sandwich
* Anything with bacon (best bacon I have ever had)
* Chili
* Fries
* Chips
* Fried Pickles (I HATE PICKLES, but I LOVED these)
Stop reading and go here RIGHT NOW. Â It's a very small place, so I don't expect the wait times to stay down long after people start to discover this place.
This place is great. Â I've been here twice and I will definitely keep coming back. Â So far I've had the Indy Burger, and the Pastrami Bagel. Â The burger was great. Â Cooked perfectly and it came with awesome fried pickles. Â The pastrami was also excellent. Â Both were really good portions at less than expected prices. Â
If you ask behind the counter, they'll be happy to tell you that almost everything is made in house. Â The hummus, the pastrami, and even the Ketchup?! Â My girlfriend and I also got to taste the Pineapple ice cream which I was skeptical about but even that was fantastic. Â I expected something really sweet, but I was wrong.
I highly recommend this place and if tater tots are available, do yourself a favor and order them. Â The menu might seem limited, but I think they have enough to please everyone, plus with everything being fresh and housemade it's kind of expected. Great stuff!
