Ok, maybe I'm spoiled living in SoCal and have some of the best Mexican on any street corner, but how anyone could rate this above 1 star is beyond me.  The margaritas come premade and put in the glass via the hose that you usually see soda coming from.  There isn't a bartender, so anything your order understand it comes from the little bar hose.  On top of that it tastes like dirty tap water.  Sent it back and asked  for water, which tasted as bad as the drink.  Never received the beans that everyone raved about with our chips, food was flavorless and lacked any authenicity.  Service was slow and waitress only came to us when we went looking for her.  She never checked on us on our food.  Overall an expensive dinner for less than 1 star food or service.  Save your money and eat elsewhere.
Review Source:This restaurant is excellent. Authentic Mexican food and drinks. The restaurant is extremely clean, bathrooms are very clean. Service is prompt and friendly. When you come in they serve chips and salsa, we had Mango Margaritas it was amazing. I had Steak Mexicana and my wife had Steak Diabla both very good. Steaks were cooked right, they were tender and over all great dining experience. I can't wait o go back and to their other restaurants. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Review Source:Food was ok, service was good, but the big surprise was after I paid more my meal at the cash register, they stole my credit card ID. Â I cannot recommend this place. Â I wrote a letter to the owners to give them a chance to make things right but they chose to ignore it. Â Business as usual must include stealing customers' credit info.
Review Source:Oi Vey- what do I say, how do I rate- I hate when I'm stuck in the position.
So, here's the run-down of my friend and I's experience here. Â
We saw this place as we were driving down the strip to our hotel, I thought, "Oh sccchnap, margaritas!" So...We come back after a night of gambling and drinking so we can enjoy some good food and draannnk. Â We walk-in and were immediately seated, that was nice- after about 5 minutes the waiter pops up and brings us water, chips, two kinds of salsa and beans. Â That salsa is off the chain, the one is kind of spicy, but I LOVE me some spice and if you do, you'll love! Â I believe I heard it's made in house, soo sooo worth it! Â So, I had finished my water within seconds and patiently waited for the server to pop back so I could order another and a Sangria and food, well 10 minutes later no one comes. Â So, I flag down who I think was the manager, he was friendly and got the drinks for us. Â 10 minutes later here comes the waiter, hooray! I know since there were 5 tables taken in the entire restaurant and they had another waiter, it must have been too much for them to handle, seriously- so sad! Â
Anyways! Since were eating chips were trying to be somewhat carb conscious on lunch (alcohol doesn't count, duh) so we ended up getting the same thing, a fajita steak salad. Â I liked mine, it was pretty tasty (nothing to brag about) and my friend said he was okay with his. Â (He felt nauseas later and said it was all the grease from the salad, no carbs and the alcohol from the night before- so take that however you will, I didn't have that problem) Â
SOOOOO let's talk about that Sangria! I mentioned margaritas earlier but I saw they were have a sangria special so I went with it, and boy oh boy I was glad I did! Â I had about 4 and then finished my friends and then I ordered one to go! Cheers on that! Yay. Â It was STRONG, like almost like drinking cold red wine at first, but for some reason it just kept getting lighter and lighter- I'm assuming the buzz kicked in. Â Anyhow, loved them so much I was back the next day for 3 more. Â
SO, I had to give this place three stars because the servers were gosh awful and service is a HUGE thing in my ratings for a restaurant. Â I might have even gone as low as two because the service was that bad. Â However, that guy I flagged down watched out for us the rest of the lunch and he was there on the next visit and took care of me. Â So because of him 1 star, the salsa 1 star, and the sangria 1 star. Â
Five stars can be achieved with better servers who show interest and come around more than every 10-15 minutes, especially before food has arrived!
Liked that they offered all day breakfast on the menu so choose this place. Â Took us awhile to find it as we wondered around the Riverside Resort (signage could have been better), but once we found it had a decent meal.
This is more Tex-Mex food IMO, but it was good. Â Service was friendly. Â Table by the windows can be a bit cramped/close together, so we asked to be moved and they were accommodating.
We went for breakfast, but actually ended up ordering off their very nice lunch menu - which has a TON of selections. Â The food we got, mini tostados and enchiladas and mini tacos - were very good. Â Selection of meats - I had the shredded chicken and it was good, not dry.
Had deal on Sangria - so had that - it was good but a little sweet for my taste. Â The menu has a good selection.
I would recommend this. Â Laughlin doesn't have the selection of places like Vegas, but this is one that I would visit again.
Went here on 7/13 for dinner and immediately felt unwelcome by the entire staff. The hostess was busy on her iPhone when we stood there for a few moments wondering if she was going to seat us. Our waiter was nice but it also was irritating that we didn't get a refill on our drinks the entire time we were there. I mean the check came before he even refilled our drinks!!! Give me a break!! It was like he was rushing us to leave and I was super annoyed. Food was mediocre... I mean it's a typical Mexican restaurant... Nothing too special. I think they really need to hire new people... It was total crap with their service. We will definitely not be coming here again.
Review Source:Margaritas were horrible. Â I love chile con queso and at first theirs was okay but as the meal went on it became unedible--love the flour tortilla chips however. Â Salsa is good. Â Tacos and taquitos were average. Â Service was pretty good. Â Coming from California we're pretty picky when it comes to Mexican food and I gotta say this was pretty average to blah.
Review Source:This restaurant is a real hit or miss. Sometimes good, others not so much. Must have new management in the last decade at some point. At Casa Serrano's opening and the handful of years that followed, both food and service were excellent. It has changed for the worse, and remained inconsistent in quality & service for the last 5 years.
Don't eat here during peak dining hours. You will likely get bad service and meals, especially on weekends. The wait staff doesn't handle crowds well, nor does the manager.
Best bet to try Casa Serrano is an early, late lunch, or dinner on weekdays. That's when I've experienced better meals.
A ton of food choices, but I wouldn't recommend any of the fish dishes. Most everything else is as described in menu. A good waiter can assist in ordering the best dish for your tastes.
Although well made furnishings are present throughout the large restaurant, it is a bit obnoxious in coloring & decor.... kinda like a pinata threw up.
Keep in mind, this is Laughlin and your choices for good Mexican food are slim. I know Harrah's has a place, Baja Blue. It will be pricier than here & is only open for dinner. Never tried it, but Yelp has a couple decent listings for Baja Blue. Maybe try it yourself & review it for your fellow Yelpers!
Well i was at this place in late Dec....Seemed like a normal restaurant but where it starts and stops for me is the fact that the service was terrible. The waitress came one time and that was it. Theres one thing if you are busy and cant get to everyone in a timely manner, then there is just plain apathy. Now I will read all the other reviews and I bet they all say the same thing.
Review Source:This Gringo Mexican place has some of the best service at the River: literally in two minutes, we had drinks, ice water, chips and three types of salsa and bean dip.  The food is pretty basic, and true to most joints of this ilk, the portions are super sized: the super taco is the size of a  folded hub cap and stuffed full of lettuce, cheese, meat and really exceptional seasoned sour cream.
Review Source:To start off, the chips were rather salty. The spicy salsa was awesome and they give you retried beans to scoop with tour totilla chips. Yummy.
I had the mole poblano and it was quite good. Can taste the chocolate. It was served with rice, retried beans and albondigas soup. All was good but, the beans were the best!
Friends had machaca and egg and carnitas. Â Both dishes we served with rice and beans as well. Both were very good, a tad on the salty side though.
Sevice - 2 Stars - quite slow
Food - 4 Stars
Ambience - 4 Stars - quite colorful and fun
Let's start with the service as they had one waiter for 30 people in our party. The food came out of the kitchen slowly within 25 minutes people finally got their food. Â The steak was hard, the salad was awful and the food was disgusting. Â The manager did refund the 5 dishes without incident. Â I'll never go back there again...
Review Source:Always expect crowds on the weekends, but tables turn over quickly. Delicious salsas. Entrees vary, I find the tortillas a bit weak - tough, bland or too flour-y. Even so it's some of the best Mexican around.
Years ago, we lived in Laughlin and this was a regular spot. Now, we return a few times a year. On a recent visit we had the El Padrino Burrito - large and tasty. And the carnitas, definitely have had better, these were pretty average. I wouldn't order them again. Tortilla soup to start was good, though.
Two dinners, once in June 2010, the other in August 2010. Thought the first one was bad, but the second chance really hammered it home.
First, realize there will be a long wait, period. Not many sit-down choices in the Laughlin strip/ area. Secondly, realize that there are a lot of um, "interesting" people that go there. Thirdly, I don't think this place is ever staffed well-- always way too many customers for them to handle with anything resembling service.
The wrong drinks are brought out (ie, calling something iced tea when it's actually soda, etc.). Cracked cups leading to a v slow but massive spillage. Inattentive servers that hand you CRAZY HOT plates withOUT warning you. And just, severely botching up orders. (This last time, two young ladies each ordered a bowl of soup-- two different kinds of soup mind you. Somehow, only one bowl was served, but the server so "thoughtfully" brought out an empty cup and extra spoon for the other girl to share. *roll eyes*)
And the food. Ugh.
Yes, the bean dip for the chips, is AWESOME! So what if everyone in our 6 party and then 18+ party groups got sick the next day from it. The bean dip is delish! But that's it.
The first time I went, I got a combo plate, the tamale was super dry (despite the disgusting sauce drizzled over it). And worse, the enchilada was a freaky, flavorless mess. This last time, I figured I'd go for an easy omelette (surely that can't be messed up too badly). While the guacamole was okay, I think there was enough guac stuffed inside to serve the whole 18+ party group for chip dipping. And while it wasn't bad, it wasn't memorable guac, either.
Both times, the boy wasn't impressed w/ his dishes. First time he got a burrito and this time the Serrano tacos. The food is just so blah. In appearance and taste.
So all in all, prices aren't horrific, but given the lousy seating, the lousy food, and the even lousier service? I just don't see a point in ever eating here again.
The service was awful...not our waiter...he did the best he could. Â It was the complete lack of servers. Â It seemed like our waiter was busting his butt covering the whole dining room. Â They need more for the dinner rush.
The food was also not very good. Â We were all pretty unimpressed with the entrees.
The second star was because the food was delivered quite promptly...otherwise it was just pretty unpleasant.
This place is horrible. Im sitting a the table now waiting for bill... gross!
I had a shrimp cocktail, garbage. No flavor, barley any shrimp and even cheap knock off saltine crackers.
My husband had a enchilada.. i tried a bite and the sauce was nasty..eww. I agree with the other post on here about the sauce tasting like watered down pasta sauce.. I dunno how this place stays in  buisness!
I am not a picky eater and I always give places a chance, but this has been the worst Mexican restaurant I have EVER been too!!
Best part about this place was the chips and the exit!
EDIT: Â This review was originally a response to a vegetarian complaining about the food at Casa Serrano no suiting his diet, and claiming that it was "the worst Mexican restaurant on the planet." Â The spineless person to whom this review was a reply has since deleted his commentary. Â I'm listing that as a W on my sheet. Â I'm leaving my review/reply up as I believe my points are valid, but I've decreased the star rating to be more in line with what my actual opinion of Casa Serrano/El Palacio truly are. End of edit.
Original test follows:
Oh, boo-hoo. Â The previous reviewer is whining about the food at a Mexican restaurant, while simultaneously admitting that he's a vegetarian. Â Excuse me, but if you limit your personal diet so much that you don't eat meat, you have NO RIGHT AT ALL to claim that a restaurant is the worst possible food of its type on the planet.
Casa Serrano isn't all that great, I'll admit.  The decor is overly kitschy, the service is occasionally slow, and the food can be mediocre at times, but saying its the worst when you don't even bother to try the carnivorous  side of the menu (in an effort, no doubt, to make yourself feel like you're "better" than the people who DO eat animal flesh) is ignorant and narcissistic.  STFU and eat a steak, already.
I'm only giving this place 4 stars instead of 3 to counteract the stupid skewed vote of the moron before me who has no justification at all for reviewing ANY food if he's not going to give a restaurant's menu a fair try.
Please be advised that the one star hardly qualifies this restaurant as edible and is only there because a review cannot be made without at least one star. Â
That being said I nearly fell to the floor in dismay when I saw a similarly named restaurant within a few miles receive a 4.5 rating and thought that some yelpers were referring to this abomination of the Mexican food name. Â Luckily it was another restaurant that I can only hope is something completely unrelated.
When you first walk into the establishment known as Casa Serrano you might think you have found something worth doing in Laughlin, NV. Â Its decor is a little bit "disneyish" but it appears clean and has a Mexican feel and even the menu appears to be copacetic and so you are lulled into a false sense of security and you begin the process of ordering the absolute worst Mexican food that one can find on this small blue planet. Â (This includes anything from the frozen food section or anything I can possibly think of.)
Both myself and my gf are vegetarian (although I am newly so don't think I don't know how good a dank carne asada burrito is) so we ordered some of the veggie fare, a chili relleno burrito and an item called tostada a las papas. Â Usually vegetarian food is a safe bet at any sketchy restaurant because at least you don't have to wonder about the meat but here at Casa Serrano there was no such luck. Â
The burrito that I ordered came with a so called "enchilada sauce" and chunks of celery were all over it. Â The enchilada sauce was horrible and tasted like a thinned out pasta sauce. Â The chili relleno inside was not totally bad and even had a little authentic cotija cheese in it that was the most pleasant part of the meal. Â Unfortunately I was starving and was forced to eat as much as I could stomach, however when I got to the halfway point and was nearly done anyway I came across a big old hunk of meat that even in my meat eating days would have disgusted me. Â It seriously looked like the kind of meat that is in those Frisky Cat cat food commercials only bigger.
My gf's tostada a las papas was a tostada that was topped with the skins of potatoes, and I don't mean potato skins like the appetizer because that might actually be good, no this was just the skins of potatoes, lettuce, tomato and a measly spoon full of sour cream. Â
The waiter saw that I was not eating my meal and so asked what was wrong, when I told him about the meat he asked if I wanted anything else, I said no I couldn't possibly eat something else from here. Â When the check came nothing was taken off the bill and I had to talk to a manager to get the burrito removed, something I commented to my gf we had not had to do for years. Â
Long story summed up: Â Don't ever go to Casa Serrano, besides there is an In'N'Out right down the street.
