Food tastes good, but they can't get an order right to save the world.....
Simple order, one of the specials. Got it to go. They rung it up as $9.50 instead of $5.50. Had to pull out the menu to show them they were wrong. They said fine. get the order, go back to the office, it's wrong. Shocker. Very clearly asked them to hold the onions/peppers. They acknowledged and said no problem. Their food is better than La Parota's and less expensive but if they can't get an order right, what have you got.

Four adults and one 4 yo on $2 Margarita Thursdays was great this week. Two Fajita dishes fed us all. Food was very good and served promptly. Staff was friendly. Our old Mexican spot in town burned down. This place was even a bit better.

The food is pretty good, but after the service we've had, we will not be returning.

When paying, one of my coworkers was asked to repeat what she had ordered (a quesadilla). She did, thinking they hadn't heard her. They then proceeded to laugh at her pronunciation of the word and speak to each other in Spanish. Regardless if her pronunciation was wrong, this was incredibly rude, inappropriate, and it really hurt her feelings.

When I asked for the manager, he was "on break" for the next two and a half hours, so he was unavailable.

Students must be reviewing this place because its a bunch of Mexicans serving garbage.. I'm serious. The food is awful.. Tastes nothing like Mexican.. The attraction is cheap drinks some nights for students. We boycotted this place for 6 months and went back to see if anything chanced with food quality. Not at this place.. It's an absolute joke. Their competitor other side  town is much, much better.

After getting a number of recommendations from friends, we tried El Patron in downtown historic Farmville today. We loved that it was NOT a chain, as Farmville seems to being taken over by them. We were greeted right away, seated in a nice, high-backed booth and quickly brought drinks and two big baskets of warm chips and four bowls of salsa/ranch for the five of us! Our food arrived in about 10 minutes at the most. Refills offered often. Table checked often by multiple servers. Really outstanding service. Kids (three under age 11) loved the quesadillas, husband loved his meal and I got the special - Fajitas Tropical $9.99 = steak, chicken and shrimp fajitas served in a hollowed out side of a pineapple, brought sizzling to the table. Just delicious and so fun! Enough for my lunch and dinner. Food wasn't spicy but there are about four different hot sauces on the tables so you can spice it up to your liking. We strolled down to Sweet Frog for dessert. Would definitely go again. Very family friendly.

Pretty good Mexican food... Excellent happy hour specials. Definitely a place for the local college students to hang out, but of you don't mind that, it's a pretty good option.... At least for FarmVille

Fun atmosphere and decent food for a good price. It can get a bit hectic when the Longwood students come in for margaritas, but generally it is a good experience. Lunch specials are a good value, and dinner portions are generous (I generally take half of it home for lunch the next day).

They're very good about describing the spice level in sauces, so if you're eating with someone averse to heat, be sure to ask.

El Patron is a fairly new Farmville restaurant located steps from Longwood University and downtown Farmville.  Parking is very limited, but I suspect that most guests will be walking in.

The restaurant itself was clean, colourful, and bright, and the hand-carved table in our booth was very cool.

The complementary chips were warm and plentiful and the salsa was very nice.  My combo plate consisting of a burrito, tamale, and enchilada was excellent and a steal at $7.50.

Of the handful of places I've eaten at in the Farmville area, I'd place El Patron at the top of the list with Charley's.
