Wow, what a terrible restaurant!
I have heard horrible stories about this place...but nothing could have prepared me for this.
As soon as we walked in (a group of 9) there were 3 employees too excited to see us. It was almost as if they had not seen a customer all day! The place had a unique stench of humid, mildew and re-fried beans in the air. Old Polaroid pictures of people wearing sombreros covered the walls.
Their first question to us was "do you wanna drink or do you wanna drink?" At that very moment I should of walked out and never looked back.
I ordered a Dos Equis beer... how can you mess that up...Oh but they did! They gave it to me at almost room temperature with a slice of dehydrated lime. My partner ordered a guacamole dip, the plate had more lettuce, cheese and olives than avocado.
To be polite towards the person who suggested this place, I kept my mouth shut during this horrifying experience. I would never recommend this place to a friend or even my worst enemies.
I did however notice a certain group of people starting show up, a younger crowd that I soon realized they were there for the karaoke. If that's what you are looking for, then that's your place.
I love El Prez. I usually order the chili relleno and shredded beef enchilada combo; my husband orders the carne asada. They always start you out with hot chips and fresh salsa. I'll often get a jar of their fresh salsa to go so I can use it at home. When you become a regular here, you're always greeted like a friend.
Review Source:Im not even sure how to describe this horrifying sacrilage to Mexican Cuisine.Ill start here:
1.The Iced Tea had soured, meaning it was days past its fresh taste.
2.The salsa was slightly fermented.
3.The Chile Relleno had no relleno sauce, and no flavor.
4.The cheese enchilada had a "sauce" on it,but it certainly wasnt enchilada sauce, and lacked any sodium content.
5.The tamale was served burnt, lacking any flavor.
Come on people is it really that hard to cook authentic, good mexican food??!!! Stay far away from this dive. I guess it is probably only good if you have enough liquor ingested,to not care what the food taste like. I will NEVER return to this retaurant, and recommend just keep driving by when you see it.
We went to try out their karaoke last night and found that the cantina was full. We waited 30 minutes but it appeared that no one at the bar was leaving and those who were at the tables came for dinner and karaoke. We left after 30 minutes of standing against the back wall. We arrived at 8, so will try it again sometime and try arriving earlier. The song selection catalogs weren't passed out until nearly 9 tho.
Review Source:I've had better Mexican food in a TV dinner than what we got here recently. Â The food was bland and flavorless and the salsa was the same. Â Where is the tasty flavor I desire so much in Mexican cuisine? Â The place is cavernous and the lighting is EXTRA bright, so bring sunglasses even at night. Â Service was okay but prices and taste experience left a lot to be desired. Â Not going to repeat here anytime soon.
Review Source:I will admit, the food is average, however, it's my favorite as far as what's available in Corvallis. I'm a big fan of the El Presidente Burrito, Chimichanga, and Flautas.
What makes El Pres is not only the very friendly service, but the Cantina!! If you are looking for your monies worth when it comes to "where to go for a great drink"...trust me, it's El Presidente. It's also a great place to go on weekend nights for Karoke, dancing and an over-all good time.
