Electric Cowboys is a joke. It has made me wonder, once again, why I keep letting my friends convince me to come up to the suburbs to go out. It's in an old strip mall behind Hooters. It looks like it could have been a Big Lot's or something in the 70s that was emptied out and re-filled with a half-assed bar.
Anway, some of the highlights would be:
1) Cheap drinks. On Thursdays house drinks are $2, and they run other similar specials.
2)Plenty of parking. I mean a TON of parking.
3) They draw pretty big crowds if you like that. However, it seems like mostly KSU students and locals who are trying to prey on them.
Lowlights would be the smoke, the crowds of people who are under 21, and a huge police presence outside for some reason. It also seems a little crazy to charge a cover at a bar in the suburbs on a Thursday with no band, but plenty of people were willing to pay it.
My advice would be to drive the extra 15 minutes down to Atlanta and find yourself a real bar. We have too good of a bar scene to waste time in dumps like this.
Please be advised - every other review on this page prior to this date is referring to when Electric Cowboy was Cowboy's - it is a completely different place now, so keep that in mind when you're looking at the reviews! Cowboys shut down back in 2010 (or maybe 2011? I don't recall offhand) and was revamped and reopened a few months back as Electric Cowboy (which is a chain, I believe). I had been to the old Cowboy's before and wasn't a fan of the smoke and on occasion the house band (I go to dance and sometimes bands make that difficult because of their song choices), but they had a big dance crowd (and a younger dance crowd!) and always played the newer music.
This past Friday I went to Electric Cowboy for the first time. Early in the night, there was a huge dance crowd - the floor was filled and the DJ rotated between couples songs, line dance songs, and slow stuff. I think at first there was a little too much two-step and definitely too many slow songs for a "club" type bar like this, but as the night wore on the couples music had some swing and cha cha added in. The line dance choices weren't very new which was disappointing. A few of us in my group made some requests to the DJ and there were a lot of songs that he didn't have. The few requests we made for songs that he DID have were never played. As the night wore on, less line dances and more "booty shaking" music came on - which is similar to the set up of the Cowboys of old.
Overall, I was torn - there are a lot of young dancers out there and I don't think this place catered well to the younger dance crowd. That said, there were a TON of dancers in general, and there was definitely a concentrated effort to keep the music going early specifically for the dance crowd, which was cool. It just would have been nice if the music was a bit newer and more varied! It was a fun night, though, and I'll be back again.
Couple's dancing is alive and well at Cowboys.  I go for Line Dancing and also a little bit of Swing and TwoStep.  (For those who know dancer lingo - it's a fast floor!)  It's the standard country bar with beer tubs and bars, done with wood décor.  The house band keeps it mixed up a bit and will try their hand at new songs, so it's not always the same play-list every week. Â
Check out Thursdays for Ladies night (free!) and a balloon drop around midnight. Â It's close to a college so the average age is a few years younger than some of the other country / line dance halls in the area.
Definitely a place I like to hang out and chill with a beer in hand.
Oh my goodness. How have more people not reviewed Cowboys. Ok, I know it's quite a bit OTP, but it's sometimes worth the drive.
Little background - I do like country music, but it's not my #1 choice. That being said, I LOVE a good girls night at Cowboys. I've spent many hilarious nights dancing here.
My favorite night to go is Thursdays (which I did much more often when I was in between jobs). It's Ladies Night, so girls are free. It's a pretty popular night to go - and the best part is that around 12am - 1am they have a balloon drop. That's right ladies, balloons filled with money drop from the ceiling - grab whatever you can. Unfortunately, I can't let you in on my secret balloon drop techniques.
The earlier you go, the more country music you will hear. Later in the night on Thurs - Sat nights, they play a lot of regular pop music and the dance floor fills up. On Friday, they usually have live music til a certain time, so check the website  - I usually like to avoid these nights. Sometimes if it's a big band, it's more like a concert venue than a dance club.
This place is HUGE with multiple bars and beer stations - you really never have to wait more than a minute for a drink. And somehow, my bill is always much lower than it should be. Must be my southern charm.
Although I am not really that interested in Country music, or line dancing for that matter, I must admit if I was interested in anything "Country" then I would probably love Cowboys.
Cowboys has a crowd around 300-400 usually show up during its normal business hours, who come rowdy and ready to show their partner how the "Boot-Scootin-Boogey" is really done. Â The crowds usually line dance, toss their partner dosey doe, or get down and jiggy to the rap/hip-hop dance music suprisingly played towards the end of the night.
Not to mention they have this crazy bull riding machine that simulates the actual movements of a bull on a roid rage, tossing people everywhere as they attempt to break in the robotic demon.
So if you are looking for: a rip-roaring good time and you prefer to spend your weekned listening to live country music with some line dancing/booty shaking and beer girls there to serve you every five feet, I suggest you giddy-up and head on over to Cowboys.
