I ate at 11 North and was very disappointed. Â We arrived on a Saturday night over memorial day weekend. Â We were expecting it to be slammed only to find it pretty empty. Â That should have been our first clue. Â It took the server 15 minutes to come over to our table to great us and another 15 to finally get us our drinks. Â I noticed that the staff and management where all just hanging around, while we sat there watiign for someone to get us our drinks. Â
The menu looked interesting enough and when we asked the server about you could tell they had no idea what they were talking about. Â The menu seemed to me to be something you would find in Boston rather than on MV. Â When the food finally arrived it was decent. Â I had the halibut, which was one of the only seafood entrees on the menu. Â When I'm on the Vineyard, I want fresh, local seafood. Â The Halibut was one of the only redeeming qualities about this place other than the decor, which was also nice.
Overall I would not go back, not for the price. Â I think with their awesome location and beautiful decor this could be an absolute winner, but for now it's a swing and a miss. Â Too bad.
11 North is one of those places that will do well where it is because the people that will go there care more about the scene than the quality of the food. The atmosphere is nice, the place is beautiful, the staff is warm and welcoming but the food is just really boring. Everything sounds good on the menu but the execution is lacking. We had to ask for lemon and salt to make our food taste ok. And even then, it was just ok because adding salt after a dish is fully cooked can only do so much. Seasoning needs to be built along the way and that's not happening in the kitchen. Really, the food is the kind of food that appeals to an older, taste buds have been dulled anyway, kind of crowd.
And it's expensive. Too expensive. You're paying for how it looks inside, not your food.
I had steak, which was at least properly cooked but had no flavor and a gratin of potatoes that again, no flavor. It's potatoes with cream and cheese- everything good in the world is in that dish so why does it taste so dry and flat?
Spent a recent afternoon at the bar with a couple of friends and had a nice time and delicious drinks. Â The atmosphere is lovely and the decor was beautiful. Â We decided to come back for dinner. The food was mediocre at best. While it was beautifully presented and cooked to order (i.e. med rare steak was just right), there was no seasoning on anything! I had two dining companions, we all ordered different items and had the same experience - no flavor. A good chef needs to work with layered seasoning to build good flavor in a dish. Â I can't imagine cooking a steak without salt. I had a fried piece of monkfish and the batter had NO flavor. Â Similarly, the lobster linguini lacked any flavor - we had to request lemon and salt just to make the fish dishes palatable.
I'd come back to sit at the bar, but I wouldn't come back for the food.
