This bar would be a place you wouldn't go in another town, but if you're in Holyoke it's not bad. Â The majority of their beer selection is what you'd expect. Â They have a few craft beers though. Â Try the McNeill's on draught. Â It's my go to option here. Â They also have a good liquor selection.
The food is exactly what you'd expect. Â It's not terrible if you're looking for a snack while drinking, but don't come here specifically to eat dinner. Â
People watching can be fun here. Â It's mostly townie types, but there's also the occasional group of hipsters looking to avoid the Noho scene wanders in occasionally. Â There's nothing like watching weird combos of people a this place, like a girl with big hair and leopard print leggings sitting next to an old guy on city council.
The big bonus for me is the Ms. Pacman and Galaga arcade machine in the back. Â There's nothing like a drunken game of Galaga when you want to avoid a discussion of Holyoke politics.
This is your whole-in-the-wall gone trendy pub. It's got a great neighborhood vibe, live music, lots of beers on tap, pool tables. Prices are low and the staff is very friendly. Definitely a good place for a loud, packed weekend, or just a Tuesday beer with some buds (and the regulars lol).
Review Source:This place may initially come off as a townie bar but a little bit nicer.
Then you meet the bartenders and realize its pretty cool.
Then you eat the food and realize, for a local bar they do things right.
Fairly priced drinks, good pub food, cute bartenders, pool, good music and good times.
Check it out. You'll like it.
Don't you hate it when there is NO CLEAN UNDERWEAR in your drawer when you're about to go on a hot date with the village uber babe? Everything you find on the floor has track marks or a jaundiced crotch area. Then, out of the corner of your eye, you see it. A brand new, unwrapped pair of clean boxer briefs. YESSSSSSSSSSS! You get to go out without feeling "not-so-fresh" or without emitting any pookey pungency under your jeans.
I felt a similar misery-cum-excitement while driving around Holyoke looking for a place to grab a bite and beer with a couple of friends. I hated everything I saw..... and then I saw it..... clean boxer briefs.... um... I mean Elizur's Pub. We parked, went in, were greeted by an uber babe of a bartender, and went to town on the menu.
SMOOOOTH Guiness, and surprisingly good pub grub. We ordered a reuben, cheeseburger, and buffalo chicken sandwich, and tried the 3 different fries on the menu (stringy, crispy curly, and steak fries). They really were the best fries I've had in a long time. Scrumptious. Food was really good, and if I didn't have such a long drive back to Boston, I'd have ordered a helluva lot more...... but really didn't feel like getting food coma and passing out on the freeway and causing a chain car accident that would kill hamsters, deer, cats, skunks, and babies...... oh, and of course I wouldn't want to soil my only clean pair of boxer briefs.
I went on a Saturday at around 6 or 7pm, and it was quiet with about 15 other patrons. Great atmosphere though. Flat screen TVs everywhere showing the game (though I didn't care to watch as all I wanted was my beer and grub), really clean, and just all around friendly. Did I mention the bartender was a total babe?
Value for money was good. I think the tab came out to around $55 for the 3 burger/sandwiches, a rum and coke, and about 5 Guinesses.
As I plan to be in Holyoke several times a month, I know I'll be coming back here again.
ding ding ding ding! Winner!
Out of all the bars in Holyoke this is probably the best one... Â does that really say much? Â Probably not.
This is probably the only places I can play pool, because the crooked pool ques compensates for my lack of aim. Â As far back as I can remember there is always at least one broken table too.
The Touch-tunes used to be cool... Â but you can no longer search for obscure music, which sucks! Â Also those things don't even have all the songs for albums, and it cost a freaking dollar for two plays! Â I don't know who's fault this is, but they should probably jump off a bridge.
I don't suggest going on Monday nights, because the same band plays... Â and they like to butcher some good songs, but at the same time they make you appreciate the original version of songs you don't like.
They have some good beers on tap, but good luck getting some of the barmaids to change it out when it's kicked.
Aside from that it's a pretty good place to go for a few drinks.
