SIT OUTSIDE! What a great patio. What a great view. We went with another couple for an early dinner a couple weeks back when it was HOT HOT HOT! Sitting outside with the breeze and the gorgeous view - what a backdrop to a great evening. And we stayed ALL evening. Our server was amazing. A-mazing. We are generally low key and like to talk and joke with servers and she joined in fantastically. The specialty cocktails were plentiful, tasty and unique. The food was familiar with great twists to make it their own. Everyone was satisfied and full when finished. To call this an Irish pub, even given the name, is doing it a grave injustice. I'll call it an Irish American bistro. Pricey? Depends on what you think you're paying for. If you're just looking at the prices on the menu, then go to Red Robin or Olive Garden and enjoy THAT view and experience. If you know there's more to an evening out than the total on the bill for the food you consumed this is the place for you!
PS - It's "shlawn - tuh" - Cheers!
We had lunch at Slainte a couple of weeks ago and it was Ok, not as great as I thought it was going to be perhaps another experience is in order?
We asked if the a/c was broken, we were assured it was on but were told it was hot out. It wasn't much warmer than 82 degree's outside so I hate to think of what it's like when the weather gets hotter. It was uncomfortably warm inside, not just for us but we noticed other patrons seemed uncomfortable too, this never starts things out well, does it? Moving right along......
We ordered a soup special, salmon gazpacho (?) to share that we didn't enjoy (at all). We had the cod cakes and salmon cakes as app's. The salmon cakes were painfully dry but the cod cakes were perfect. We both (friend & I) had fish n' chips, i switched the fries for veg. we both agreed the entree's were good. Dessert was a peanut butter cup/mousse, which was very rich and hit the spot.
The server is the main reason I would give Slainte another chance, the server was friendly, had personality, was attentive and knowledgeable.
The manager (owner?) hovered around our table taking away empty plates etc. Although one should appreciate, the extra special steps' proprietors take, it can be annoying when they interfere with a guest's over-all experience by hovering around the table. I'd have preferred this person ask the server to do things, instead of interfering so much that my friend & I couldn't have an uninterrupted conversation. In addition, from my vantage point it's not a 4/5 star restaurant so an extra saucer on the table isn't a huge service faux-pas.
I imagine when the weather cools down this will be a great place for dinner in late Sept./Oct. as the restaurant is located at the very top of a hill with no obstruction of the sky; hence an exceptional night sky view. We noticed they have outdoor heaters for the patio area. We'll check it out again sometime early fall for dinner, not during summer as I don't like being mosquito bait.
I used to visit 80 Jarvis regularly and was quite sad when it closed. The revisions to the inside decor makes the restaurant feel more open which is nice. The drinks are good. But the food is expensive - a salad with meat on it is $15 plus. Â The dessert I tried was delicious. I am not a huge Irish pub person. The new owner owns a restaurant in NoHo. I have heard mixed reviews from other friends so I would say check it out for yourself.
