  I give Elsie's these 5 stars based on 3 factors
  1.  The pulled pork barbeque is real slow cooked smoked pork and is really done right altho the sauce is a bit too thick for my taste it tends to overwhelm the meat. There are very very few BBQ makers in this area that slow cook BBQ, they usually just boil the pork, maybe roast it a bit and add liquid smoke or some other god awful stuff. There is no texture just limp meat. What do they put on their BBQ at that joint on 211  North outside of Middletown, it's awful.
  
  2.The lady behind the counter was as nice as she could be.
  
  3. Location in a beautiful area of NY near the Wallkill River with a view of
  the Shawangunks. The building is nice, simple and old fashion. Beautful
  
  4. O yeah # 4 the portion was a generous pound to go at a very good price ($8) with a lot of sauce.

  A wonderful neighborhood venue with great food, and a wonderful staff! They offer high quality food at a very fair price.
  
  While you can enjoy some great barbecue anytime, I typically go for the specials, a large pie from 4pm to 8 pm for $9.95, wing night Thursday for the same, or Maine lobster night for $16.95.
  
  For the quality and service, this place is amazing!!

  I have been here only once and will never go back, I live right.down the road and do see that the small parking lot is packed on occasion, but don't be fooled by cars in the lot 9/10 times they are all sitting at the bar...
  The food is very mundane and disgusting not worth the price tag attached to them.
  The pulled pork, wings and pizza that these people on here are raving about apparently have a lack of tastebuds and class.
  There are so many more great restaurants around, don't waste your time or money on this place.
  But if you like bland food, an owner with a permanent scowl on her face while she takes your order (because she can not seem to keep anyone there to work for her..that's a whole other story)
  And an out dated atmosphere filled with townie drunks
  Then you are in buisness, but don't say I didn't warn ya!

  We live right around the corner and love this place for the closeness and comfort food. The best thing is that everything is made fresh - nothing is pre made, and you can tell. We usually eat right at the bar and I admit I love bar food. If you are thinking about going to chilis or Applebees in Newburgh, forget it, the burgers here are 10x better. Also, the pizza comes from a real pizza oven, its not a nuked frozen bar pie.

  Elsie's, formerly WC Gunks, is one of our favorite local restaurants which serves up quality food at a fair price.  Other establishments in our area, go thru periods of flux in terms of the food and/or the service but we KNOW we can always count on Elsie's for a fantastic meal.  The atmosphere is casual and inviting.  My favorite table, on chilly days, is located right next to the wood stove.  The menu has a nice wide variety to satisfy most preferences.  My son loves their pizza.  Hubby swears by their chicken parm.  I usually go for one of their specials or surf & turf.  If you're ever in the tiny little hamlet of Wallkill stop by Elsie's Restaurant!  You won't be disappointed.
