Great outdoor bar with plenty of TVs... Â Only had the calamari strips, which were fabulous, and a few drinks - and for that would give a higher rating. Â However, our bartender outside snapped at my friend when he asked for a beer - and there were maybe 6 people total at the bar at the time... Â He's pretty easy going, so her snapping was def uncalled for and turned us off.
Review Source:Went here on a first date. Â Not a bad place to hangout at all. Â Decent prices, a decent environment as well. Â Did not try their food so I can't review that, but the service was very quick, and they have daily specials, which is nice considering the area. Â Do have to say, I had no idea where the place was until you search for it...its nestled in a corner near several office buildings.
Review Source:We came for happy hour. Ordered a tuna dish and mussels. The mussels came with three small slices of bread. As any mussel eater can attest, bread is a major part of the joy of ordering mussels. Afterall, it's all about the sauce. So you can imagine our shock when our waitress told us we would be charged 50 cents for extra bread. Seriously? They gave tiny slices, badly presented and a dish w a lot of sauce..actually we didn't even finish the mussels (some too gamey) and all we wanted was extra bread. Which is usually on the table anyway and often tossed. Our sweet waitress was mortified. Shame on you, management. We come here often and now you have lost us, over 50 silly cents..
Review Source:Former neighbor came to town and wanted us to meet him here. Sat outside under cover so no problem when the rain came. Half price drinks until 7 so had a decent glass of Merryvale Chard for $6. Flat bread apps were delicious. My Snapper entree with wild rice and zucchini was really good. Better than expected for a "pub"
On our last visit it was inside and were were in a seperate room with a large crowd. Like the outdoor experince better but that option is off the table when the summer heat and humidity rolls in. Server had no problem handling our grpoup of 7.Nice evening.
This is by far my favorite happy hour spot in town. Â It gets busy, but there is plenty of seating inside and outside, which means that it never feels too crowded. Â They have cider on tap (usually Strongbow or Angry Orchard), which I appreciate as a non-beer drinker. Â The menu has undergone a couple changes since they opened, but I've never gotten food that I haven't liked - the fig and prosciutto flatbread and roasted portobello panini are two favorites. Â I went once and our waiter was very unattentive - he didn't even notice when we tried to flag him down! When we mentioned it to the manager, he was very helpful, got us another round, and made sure we were taken care of for the rest of the night. Â That is the one and only time that the service has been less than stellar. Â I highly recommend this as a happy hour spot, or for dinner. Â Now that the construction on the nearby plaza is finished, it's even more pleasant.
Review Source:I hate this place. I went for the first and last time on Friday. Everything about it confuses me. It's English. But I am not sure what makes it so.. They have like one thing on the menu that is English. The standard fish and chips. Anyway, back to why this place sucks.. I ordered a beef on beef burger. Neither the sliced prime rib nor the burger was impressive. It didn't taste like anything. Â Not to mention, my tummy hurt all afternoon after eating it :(((. My brother ordered the ceviche. Â What the heck!! How is that even remotely close to being ceviche? Just looking at it, you can tell it's not fresh. He was very brave as he ate it ... Most of it at least. And since when do they serve fried wonton skins with ceviche? The fish was complete rubbish. It looked/tasted like it was cooked before it was tossed in citrus juice. In fact, it was like fish salsa. Horrible!!!!!!!! Â
Another thing, I was so confused by the clothes the waitresses were wearing. It's not classy, nor sexy. They all looked trashy. Tiny tank tops and black pants that looked grungy. I don't get it.
This place always has excellent food. Â I try something new nearly every time I go and I am always pleased. Â They have great lunch specials, a great "sunset menu" that is served from 4pm to 6pm, and a long happy hour that ends at 7pm. Â We always sit outside because their outdoor area is really nice. Â For lunch, you will get fantastic service. Â For dinner, you might not. Â We once asked to speak with the manager because we waited for more than an hour to get our meal, and were told "he can't come out to talk to you because we are too busy." Â We were pretty shocked. Â Still, since the food is so fantastic and they have a good beer selection on tap, we will certainly continue to be patrons. Â I highly recommend coming here for lunch any day, and for dinner only if you are not in a rush to eat.
Review Source:We wanted to find a new place to sit outside since the weather has been so perfect, so we met up with some family here. Â So glad they suggested the place because the place was GREAT !!!
Even though they are known for beer, I ordered one of their special drinks, Sour Apple Martini. Â I enjoyed it so much that i ended up ordering two more. Â
Appetizers:
CEVICHE - made with white fish, shrimp and scallops marinated in lime juice with fresh veggies served with wontons. Â Everyone at the table enjoyed it.
FLATBREAD - margarita roasted tomato sauce, mozzarella and fresh basil. Â It was delicious and everyone enjoyed this dish as well.
MUSSELS - steamed mussels in a spicy tomato broth with crispy cherry peppers served with sour dough crostini. Â Even though the other appetizers were good, this one was the winner. Â It was so good that we ended up ordering a second serving.
OK, now I was already getting full but I wanted to try their dinner, so I ordered a main dish anyway (I have big eyes).
Dinner:
I ordered the Bourbon Glazed Salmon marinated with a bourbon sauce served with rice and vegetables. Â WOW, this dish was really good. Â Salmon was not over cooked and the sauce was loaded with flavor.
I will definitely come back to this place. Â The waitress that we had was really friendly and came by often enough to make sure we werent running low with our drinks or need anything else.
The only good thing here was the friendly hostess, and the server was friendly at first.
I ordered dinner and drinks with 2 friends. I had the lobster mac and cheese, which consisted of a plate of spiral noodles cooked in sauce that tastes likely and is the consistency of velveeta- literally, exactly like the fake, processed cheese. Further, it had maybe 5 pieces of lobster in it. They forgot I'd ordered it as an entree, not appetizer, so they forgot the side dish and brought it later- it was coleslaw, which mostly somehow tasted like pepper. The reprieve was french onion soup, which was fine.
My friends had the lemon chicken, which was dry and lacked flavor, though the salad and mashed potatoes were fine, and the other had snapper- which they confused, and brought her salmon. She mentioned it and they took everything away and brought the right fish 10-15 minutes later.
We all come there for what we thought would be a great beer selection. If you've been to places like World of Beer or Mellow Mushroom, then you will quickly realize this is not a good beer selection. They have a good number, but they lack variety. Almost no dark beers, 1 blueberry beer is the only fruit beer and it's gluten free so it tastes different, and there's really nothing interesting at all- nothing like a mocha porter grazes the menu. We ended up having martinis, some of which were good, some were not- the espresso one tasted terrible, which an employee had recommended, but the others were fine, though they're not on the happy hour menu.
The real clincher came at the end of the night, when they ended up not splitting the check correctly, and somehow charged me five times the amount of my bill. Yes, five times the amount- they charged me the amount of my bill twice, then the entire check of my bill with my friends', giving me a grand total of five times the amount, I received an alert from my bank via text of a multiple charge, and the waitress told me she'd get a manager. The manager never came, and instead she came back to explain to me the owner told her how it worked, and they had accidentally done so, but the excess charges would not clear. But, one charge remained pending on my account for 5 days, so it was still inaccessible from my account. One did clear on Monday, and i left a voicemail and sent an email and never heard back from the restaurant. I received a refund on that charge without anyone ever contacting me, but at least they refunded the money.
Find somewhere else to go for drinks and food. Even one of the places next door to this.
I went here about 2 weeks ago and sat outside. Â The beer selection is awesome. Â We went for happy hour and the deals on the drinks you can't beat. Â $3 drafts, half off well drinks and wine. Â It was a cool atmosphere. Â If you wanted to watch the games you could do that or if you wanted to be a little more secluded you could do that too. Â They at $5 appetizers for happy hour. Â They were ok, nothing fantastic, but good bar food to go with the drinks. Â That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Â Maybe the dinner entrees are better. Â If you're looking for a good happy hour though, this is one of the best in Boca
Review Source:My friend and I eat lunch (appetizer) here about once a week. We enjoy splitting the mahi and wahoo fish dip! It is AMAZING!
Not sure how much the staff enjoys our very cheap lunch as we are often left with empty drinks.
However, we always tip about 40% b/c we know how bothersome it could be to wait on two women who are ordering water and splitting an appetizer.
Fish Dip gets 5 stars.
Wait staff 4 stars and the hostess gets 5 starts - she is always sweet and courteous but usually wondering where the waitstaff is when our drinks are empty.
Let me tell you right off the bat, I am not a big drinker....I went strictly for the food. Â I saw this place on Local Dines and purchased the certificate after drooling over the menu. Â My friend and I went on a Friday night and were seated inside. Â It seemed that outside seating was the place to be, but this is Florida and I can't stand sweating while I eat. Â
Our server, Miles, was probably the best thing I can think of during our visit. Â He was funny and always ready to help with a question or a drink refill.
Now onto the food. Â We started with the lobster mac and cheese. Â While the portion size and flavor was great for an appetizer, the lack of lobster and the price made me frown. Â We also tried the spinach dip, which was nothing to write home about either.
The main courses sounded so good on the menu, but were a total and utter disappointment when eaten. Â We shared the blt scallop sliders and the brown butter lobster rolls. Â Being a lobster roll fanatic, I was expecting succulant lobster chunks on a lightly toasted roll. Â What I actually received was finely chopped lobster, looked like it was coated in bread crumbs and then fried. Â It was then placed in a roll with brown butter that made the whole thing disgusting and soggy. Â I couldn't even finish it. Â The blt scallop sliders made me laugh...a scallop sitting on a tiny bun with bacon, lettuce and tomato. Â Basically, most of the 3 bites were bread until you got to the scallop sitting in the center.
All in all, high prices and disappointing food. Â This was the first and last time for this place....
I normally don't give 1-star reviews but this place was terrible. My boyfriend and I Â tried going to English Tap on a Sunday once found that they're not open at all on Sundays. We tried again for dinner on a week night, we were starving and wanted beer. The inside was unappealing, the bar area was small and poorly laid out. We ended up at an awkward middle of the room hightop. Fish & Chip sliders were ALL batter, no fish was detected by either of us. Waitress had not tried many beers or menu items so she was truly unhelpful when I asked for recommendations. My salad was like $16 and it sucked. The chicken pot pie (because they were out of shepherd's pie) was basically chicken soup with a giant oddly-shaped philo dough hat. We were ready to leave but the waitress disappeared. $75 later we left disappointed and unsatisfied with the entire experience.
Review Source:I came here with a group of lady friends for some snacking and drinking.
I ordered the jolly rancher martini, which was delish. Â Not too strong and not too weak.
As for food, I had the spinach dip to snack. Â It was great! Â The dessert was another story. Â We ordered a cookie / ice cream plate. Â The cookie was so burnt we asked for them to redo it. Â They came back with another cookie that wasn't as burnt..
Overall, the staff was nice and the location is great for a few drinks. Â There are plenty of vegetarian options, but I didn't make the most of the menu since I came for the drinks.
Excellant, the Menu is just great. The food is fresh and Seafood is real. The Lobster flat bread is just out of this world with lots of lobster. The Scallop slidders are fresh and you get 3 sliders. I could go on and on. It is not cheap but is a must for anyone who enjoys ggod food and service. The  bartender that we had (Marshanta) was great. The selection of beers is fantastic and the Martinis are well made and well served. Not small  like many other resturants.
Can't wait to go back.
I've been there twice. The first time was after an art show in the plaza. It was decent. We had appetizers and a couple of beers for lunch. I wasn't impressed by their beer menu, but it was a nice afternoon to eat outside. It was good enough to warrant a family dinner visit. Again, the appetizers were pretty decent, but the entrees were not up to snuff. In particular, four of us had one of their specialties - which the waitress highly recommended - the Shepard's Pie. Huge mistake...it was a thick purée topped with a dollop of mashed potatoes and a sprinkle of shredded cheese. It wasn't so much that it tasted bad, because the actual taste wasn't offensive, but it was is no way shape or fashion...Shepard's Pie. This is not somewhere to go for dinner, just for a beer and appetizer...and they were actually out of the first four appetizers we attempted to order.
Review Source:We decided to try this place despite the reviews because we had a local dines coupon. We sat at the bar and first ordered drinks. My standard Vodka and Cran was tiny and so was the glass of wine. The bartender was very friendly. The place looks great and was crowded at 7:00PM. I figured I would play it safe and just order a burger and my girlfriend got lobster Mac and cheese. The food came quickly. The burger was fair at best, had little taste and was dry and over cooked. The fries were cold and not too many on the plate. For what they charge the quality falls way to short for me. Don't think I will be going back.
Review Source:Beer-centric restaurant - no particular garden.
Located in the Boca Center collection of shops amongst the other bars and restaurants. Â After finally finding a spot, my date and I were looking for a place to sit and chat and we had initially thought Rocco's Tacos might be the place but it was jammed up so we wander a little further on and came across the English Tap & beer garden.
I would say it is a fancy name for a place that has seating outdoors - it certainly didnt strike us as a beer garden proper. Â In fact, I thought the beer selection was weak and we actually settled on mojitos- regular for her, raspberry for me.
The bartender did a great job with the drinks and since we wanted to talk we moved inside where it was practically empty. Â We drank for a bit but decided to pass on food as we wanted to see what else was available to us before deciding what to eat so we paid up and moved along.
Decent place - worth a hit if looking for something casual.
I visited English Tap and Beer Garden for the first time Saturday night (April 28, 2012) and enjoyed it very much. A huge disclaimer is that I did not try any of the food. My friend and I stopped in for a beer before dinner, and although we looked at the menu and might have stayed there had we seen anything of interest, we did not and, after our beers, shoved off.
That said, our time there was extrememly pleasant. We sat at the end of the bar that faces Rocco's, sipping our beers and talking. I drank Guinness and my companion, Spaten, both of which were on tap. Â As we paid the check, a few large parties assembled at the nearby high-tops and I could tell that this place can get really loud. We lucked out in hitting English Tap before this happened. I will definitely go back again for pre-dinner beers, but unless the unimaginative menu improves, not for food.
What a Happy Hour find! Â Sunday through Saturday. Â $4.95 appetizers, half price drinks ... their House Wine is Cupcake ... yum! Â Try the Shrimp and Chorizo Flatbread, Braised Mussels, Grilled Chicken Wings, Tuna Sliders, Catfish Sliders and Asparagus frites. Â Amazing ... everything we have had there has been top quality. Â The Bartender, Jane, is AWESOME.
Review Source:The waiter was nice. Informative. Seemed happy to be there. I am not so into  beer but I did try the (Brooklyn ) beer. It was refreshing.
As for the food when I was asking about the menu they said they were out of a lot. Boy they weren't kidding. They then proceeded to hand me a list of all they didn't have. ( I posted it in pics for this restaurant) Â its quiet extensive. I ended up with the Mediterranean flat bread and ceaser salad. I would say that's not a meal to review, but I will. It sucked. The flat bread wasn't flat and crispy. Way too much black olives. The Ceasar salad covered in milky dressing. Maybe if you love craft beer it might be appeasing.
I didn't like my food.
If you want to eat don't go on Tues. they obv run out of food by then.
Extremely weak selection for a "Beer Garden." The food is painfully average and overpriced. The first failed restaurant I suppose wasn't enough of a reality check but this isn't too far behind. Not that Rocco's is so wonderful, but it literally sucks all the energy and people from English Tap. Why? Because the food is better, cheaper and at least they have some options if you prefer to drink. Stay away.
Review Source:I have been here a few times and service varies plus I think it is a little to pricey.
First time here: I was with a group of coworkers and we sat at the bar. It was probably like 8-10 of us just hangout after work having a good time. We ordered several drinks. When we finally decided to check out. We asked the bartender to split the tap for us between 3 people and he clearly said "no". I would understand if they had a full house and were super busy and this would cause them trouble however, we were almost the only ones sitting at the bar. I had to basically beg him to split my tab so I could just leave. He still gave me a hard time however he managed to convince him. Going forward we know not to sit at the bar with a group of friends.
2nd time here: We decided to meet up here for happy hour. Our server was really cool and friendly. He saved this place from getting a 1 star. He was very attentive and informed us of the happy hour specials. At the end he had no problem splitting up the check. I think his name was Ryan.. I will make sure to ask for him next time. Awesome Server! I think this place needs something to spice it up. It is in a great location but something is missing. Maybe better music, or a signature happy hour drink like the Cove (Planters Punch) The 30oz Margaritas are too sweet and too much ice in it. I didn't have at lot of fun here for happy hour like I usually do at other places. There is something missing here.
The location is great next to Roccos so there is a good crowd especially for happy hour. My advice is go for the drinks at happy hourand skip the food. The drink selection is average. I would expect more from a "Beer Garden". The food is terrible and overpriced. Service is very good but there is no reason to go here unless youre in the area.
Review Source:I first had a taste of this place during the Best of Boca event. The margarita flatbread was delicious, so I made a mental note to come back here. My friend and I visited during happy hour (11 minutes were left), so we ordered our 2 for 1 drinks and quickly ordered from the half-priced appetizers.
We split an order of the spinach dip, while she got the calamari and I got the flatbread. She loved the calamari, while my flatbread was even better than the one I had tried previously. The spinach dip was good, but could have used more cheese. Our waiters were prompt and friendly, and I really enjoyed our stay. They have a wide variety of food and drinks to choose from, so I look forward to coming here again.
Wish I would have read the reviews...noisy inside and out...The hamburger sliders were square..which means they were premade...the chicken pot pie was not cooked well, although impressive looking with a big crust top. I had to send my drink back because it was not made right -too sweet. The second one came back fine. In all honesty, the flatbread was pretty good so when the main dishes came and were so bad, we were pretty shocked. They eliminated the skirt steak on the menu ...and were charging $30 for salmon or scallops...really?? you think you can do that because you are in Boca, shame shame. This place is a rip off -looks like a tavern with haute cuisine prices...be gone in 6 months..Could have been great. Sorry
Review Source:This place is overpriced, they don't even have the beers which they advertise on their menu. Â The food isnt that good and the service is so so and I give this place 6 months before it goes out of business. Â The only good thing that I can say is that the booths are comfortable and the interior is nice.
Review Source:Food
To be fair, I've had one soup, one entree, and 3 different beers, nevertheless, I have to say 'so far, so so'. Â My chicken panini was bland and ridiculously oily. Â The fries that came with it reminded me of Burger King frieds, which I think everyne knows are the worst fries ever. Â Prior to that I had a bowl of tangy tomato bisque, which I would call more of a tomato puree. Â I'm not going to say the flavors weren't tasty, but the texture of the soup was just something a little strange. Â
Beers
The place is a pub / biergarten, so the beer selection certainly beats most normal establishments; however, I still find it to be lacking. Â There aren't enough dark beers on the menu, and they're missing alot of the beers on draft. Â I ended up having a beer flight (3 7oz samples), Kronnenburg, Brooklyn Lager(which didn't taste anything like the Brooklyn Lager I've had in the past), and something called Palm (supposedly the best selling beer in Belgium). Â It was... ok.
Atmosphere
It's good, right there in Boca Center (which is obviously nice); although, three other places have been in this restaurant's in the last 5 years, and all have failed. There are indoor and outdoor dining areas, complete with normal tables as well as love booths. Basically, the place looks like a modern/upscale 'pub-inspired' restauraunt. It's a little too nice to call a pub. Â
Service
We walked in on a Sunday afternoon, the outdoor greeting station was unmanned and had half empty glasses sitting on it. Walking into the restauraunt, the place was virtually empty. Â Nevertheless, no hostess, no waitresses, basically we just walked around the place like idiots until we found the bartender and asked if we can just seat ourselves, which we did. Â After being seated, the service was adequate until I got the check. Â My girlfriend ordered oysters (10). Â I realize this isn't an oyster place, but they're listed at market price on the menu. How bout letting a guy know they're 2.50 appiece before you let him order 10. Â I wasn't happy about that.
Price
The food is expensive, and it shouldn't be. Â It's really not good enough to warrant the prices they want. Â This is the same reason the place before it closed, and I think the owner is the same guy. Â
Verdict
In all seriousness, if you want to drink some beers... I guess go ahead for the hell of it, but do NOT eat here, there's just no reason to do it. Â The food's expensive and it's not that good. Â Alternative selections in the area BierGarten in Royal Palm Plaza for beers, Paddy McGees Atlantic Ave in Delray for a pub.
