This is a nice place to go and get some drinks, food and listen to some music. They have a small menu of bar type food and it's really good. I've had the quesidillas and they are very good and enough for 2 people. The conecuh sausage dip with house made chips are amazing and they're only $1. The happy hour specials are pretty good, but they haven't updated the menu online so when we got there they were actually a dollar more then advertised on the site.
Review Source:The Exchange is at the Renaissance Spa and Hotel. There's garage parking in the back of the hotel but not sure how much that costs if you're not a guest ($12 if you are a guest). Or the municipal parking lot in front of the hotel (next to Embassy Suites) is only $5.
There is a gorgeous outside patio area that would have been ideal if the thunderstorms hadn't drenched the party. Inside is nice and relatively good size (thought it was going to be tiny tiny). Drinks were good but they closed at midnight on a Thursday. I guess if I were working the next day, I wouldn't have wanted to hang out much longer but I happened to have a day off so we went over to The Alley. I like the Exchange though. Nice place with a lounge/bar like atmosphere. I could have hung out all night.
I'm kind of surprised by the previous review. Â We went there as a late night business gathering post-conference. Â Food was good. Â Sweet potato fries and dipping sauce was fantastic. Â So were the pecan encrusted chicken strips. Â Our server was friendly and took care of us but she was very busy all night.
Not a bad way to enjoy a late summer evening in Montgomery, AL.
I know this review may surprise many people because The Exchange is such a trendy place right now, but I find The Exchange to be overpriced and a waste of time. My major complaint is that the service is extremely slow or nonexistent most of the time. The purpose of a bar is to keep the drinks coming right? The Exchange seems to operate with only 3 or 4 staff and only 1 person behind the bar inside. That is insufficient considering the large number of people that are there and the disorganized outside fashion of the place where people move around tables and chairs to their liking. The atmosphere is average with regards to heat and shades from the sun. At night, I usually find the music almost nonexistent with its low volume and dreary singers. There are far too many other good places within walking distance of The Exchange to bother spending your money there.
