The worst food I have ever eaten in a bar! I too wanted to like the place because I was an old Stash O' Neil's patron and loved it!
The first thing I noticed there was the bartender talking to 2 people at the end of the bar drinking coffee and shooting the breeze paying no attention to me.... Â I ordered the Nachos. BIG MISTAKE! When it finally arrived the taco meat was cold and the cheese wiz they used on it was gross! Â I often wondered how in the hell this place survived as long as it did. YUCK!
I REALLY wanted to like Fatty's. It's just down the street from my house and really convenient for us to get to. We went on what they had advertised as "Taco Day" they had a special on tacos so we decided to try it. It was about 5 pm on a Wednesday, the place was not busy at all, which I thought was kind of odd, most Rockford eateries have their dinner rush around this time. The place was decorated nicely and looked to be pretty clean and well kept. One thing I did notice was that it was so dark in there, I just asked our server about the tacos and any drink specials they had. We ordered the Tacos and after 15 minutes of waiting, our server came over and told us they had ran out of taco meat so it would be about 15 minutes longer. After 20 minutes more, we received our food. They looked pretty good, but, the lettuce was super, super bitter. Our server never came by to ask how the food was and never bothered to ask us if we needed a refill. Again, I add, the place was not busy, I don't understand why our server couldn't have been a little more attentive. The main question I would have is, how does a place run out of taco meat when they are not even busy? I have worked in the food biz, if we ever ran low of something, we cooked more. you don't wait until you run completely out before telling the servers you are running low or before you cook more. Honestly, if they were busy, I could understand it. I usually will give a place 3 tries. This will be Fatty's one and only try.
