Had lunch here with the in-laws over the holidays. Great service and really good food. I had a seafood combo. The fish was cooked perfectly and the batter on the shrimp was very light and crisp. I also had their crab soup and it contained a lot of crab and just the right bite of spice. I'd definitely enjoy eating here again.
Review Source:A chain? Maybe... although this is the one and only I've seen. I'm not disputing that this is a chain, because it looked too ... chain-y... to be independent. I just hate habitual chain bashers. There's nothing wrong with it if it serves good food.
Aside from the constant cackling from a middle-aged drunken redneck at the bar, I found this place purely enjoyable. The food was well prepared, well presented, and well eaten. There were a few unique menu items, such as the fried green tomato topped burger that I ordered, which was large an juicy. The fries were plentiful, crispy, and perfectly seasoned, and my fruity rum drink was divine. Although I'd say the spinach dip appetizer was a wee bit, well.. wee.. it was delicious as well. Sprinkling cajun seasoning on corn chips is a good idea, Fatz!
I'd eat it again. And again. And probably a few times after that.
My new roommate doesn't "do" Mexican. Â Chinese is out. Â Most Asian food is a no. Â In fact, most ethnic food is out of the question. Â Her idea of a good dinner is Applebee's. Â Needless to say, our opinion on good food does not align. Â So when she recommended Fatz as a compromise ("Like O'Charey's but better!" she promised...) I was dubious at best. Â
However, Fatz Cafe really stepped up to the plate. Â The decor isn't cheesy, no pieces of flair here, and the food was well prepared and simply executed. Â There were no celebrity chef menus, just good "American" favorites. Â The meal starts with little fried breads that are quite a nice surprise!
I'm not exactly a "fan" of any chain restaurant, which is what keeps this review from getting 4 stars from me. Â However, out of the Chilli's, TGI Fridays, Applebees, O'Charley's line-up, Fatz definitely outshines them all. Â Mostly, I'm just glad to have found a good compromise restaurant with my new roomie!
