We love eating here, as food is consistently good. We had fried green tomatoes with grits , as an appetizer. Then we had burgers, calabash chicken wrap, calabash salad, and Asian chicken salad. Their rolls, similar to beignets, are excellent. Everyone left happy and full. Prices are very reasonable..

Update on a very poor service experience.  Ordered 4 burgers on a Sunday evening, not packed, took over an hour to get them and the best the manager offered me was 1 free dessert.  I am now staying away from this place for awhile and have found a better match for my palette....61 Main.

Visited after 6 months. Shocking deterioration in establishment and quality. First, our table had chips all over it--except it wasn't chips. It was many small chips in the table top...with couple large gashes. This table should hav ebeen removed from service long before we arrived. Someone just doesn't care. We ordered two appetizers rot split. We were told there we 8-10 shrimp on the skewer, but there were only six . When we got the firecracker sticks, the taste was good but each stick was about 25-30% empty. That was not ther case on our last visit. The server was new but unprepared..not her fault. Bad training. I will think twice before another visit. My wife said they either had new management or needed new management.

We had a variety of food and not one complaint. Big portions. Great place for the whole family.

This place used to be good. The prices have gone up and and taste and quality has gone way down. What happened? The only good thing now is the rolls.

Great american food.  It's all really bad for you, hence their name, but God is it good going down!  Service is friendly, but overall average.  Great chicken fingers and burgers.  Outside of that, it's the slightly better version of Applebee, Chillis, TGIFs, etc.

Have eaten at Fatz 2 more times.  Once more in N. Georgia and once just recently in or near S. Carolina - both times the food was awful.  They have gone downhill for sure.  Will not make a 4th trip.

While in Jasper, stopped by the cafe. Maple plank salmon was moist and simply delicious. Comes with grilled veggie (mmmm!) pilaf but opted for baked potato....their red skin mashed potato was highly rated as well. I'd recommend Carolina peach cobbler for dessert - prepare to share with 1 or 2 people, very large portion. Overall rating is good though I'd have preferred more authentic Southern flare. Still, it's worth driving an hour to dine again - perhaps try their famous fish then.

I was up in Jasper visiting friends and family for the holidays.  It was getting late, most places were closed and after a failed attempt to find a mom and pop style BBQ restaurant in the area we ended up seeing the sign and decided to drop in.

I went with my wife and young daughter and was very pleasantly surprised.

The interior was about what you'd expect from a chain restaurant, a bit more conservative than a Friday's but less cluttered than a Cracker Barrel.

We sat down and were given a free sample as first time visitors.  Now we ordered appetizers and and entrés and had food that would make Paula Deen proud.  The food was incredibly rich and full of flavor.  After waddling out back to the car, I'll definitely eat there again when I'm back up in Jasper.

Dining at Fatz Cafe is like being reunited with an old friend. I lived for several years in the upstate of South Carolina. I can remember going to their original location in Spartanburg and watching them slowly expand outwards from there. Today they seem to be all over the southeast, except in Metro Atlanta. I sometimes catch myself saying that I wish they were here. But in reality, I don't want them to be. I'm content to only eat here every few years, recalling fond memories while feasting on calabash chicken. If they were close to where I lived, I would never eat there. I know, strange.

And to me, the calabash chicken is the only thing to get here, a signature item. If you are a lover of the chicken finger, you ought to try them once. They start with good quality chicken and hand-bread in the store. They are just very delicious. They also give you a generous half pound helping of these guys with a dinner plate. I think the price is in the $10-12 range, which gets you a salad and side item. For the money, it is a lot of food and totally worth it.

The rest of the menu is more of an upscale casual dining type stuff. And I'm there so infrequently that I never really try the rest of it.

Service seems to be hit or miss. On my last visit to this Jasper location, our server was unnecessarily slow. Other times, the servers have been terrific, exceeding expectations.

So to my Atlanta yelp friends, give this regional chain a try sometime if you are traveling. You'll dig it, promise!
