We are from Philly and were visiting Newport for a long weekend. After checking the internet for something to do on Saturday night we decided to give Firehouse Theater a try. The show was hysterical. I can't remember laughing so much in a very very long time. It is a BYOB, although they provide the cups, ice, hot chocolate and hot tea if you prefer. The price is extremely reasonable and the atmosphere is very laid back. The theater is small so I would strongly suggest you make reservations ahead of time. Payment must be cash or check  NO credit cards.
My suggestion to you is go see the show you won't be disappointed.
Bit Players at Fire House Theater... great show. Â Well worth your time and money. Â The cast was energetic, good improv skits, Vlad's pantomime was hilarious. Â Plenty of good restaurants nearby on Broadway that you can visit before the show, then sit and relax laughing the night away. BYOB is a plus.
Review Source:We were here for the Wasted Talent show. This is a small theatre, good location. The stage seemed to be decorated for a play of some sort, mostly in flower type decorations. Out of the 5 comics, I really liked 3 of them. BYOB shows will attract a lot of drunk people, fyi. This was somewhat amusing at times. At least 3 drunk girls caused a major distraction, 2 of them leaving obnoxiously in the middle of the show. They provide free coffee. They don't take credit cards so that is a pain.
Review Source:Pretty good! First time guest on Saturday of St. Paddy's day wknd. The hospitality of the owners was very much appreciated. BYOB with cups, ice, coffee, tea, etc provided. Nice touch. Show was pretty good. The host definitely lead the show, and was very good, but it was unfortunately a small crowd, and most improv shows are made better or worse by the audience's involvement, or lack thereof. With all of the 5 star ratings, I had extremely high expectations, that were not quite 5 star.
Review Source:Hysterical.. This is a must see!
Every show is completely different (cast, bits, prompts) and each show has been hysterical..
I do suggest to arrive a half hour early, to pick your seat. It's a small theatre and all the seats are good (I have sat in the 4th row from the stage, first row on the second half, and the last row on the second half) however, I prefer to sit closer so that way I can get a full view and a chance to be heard.
Make sure to call and make a reservation because it may be sold out.. You will not be disappointed.. The cast is wonderful..
Enjoy and BYOB :)
The Bit Players - <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fthebitplayers.blogspot.com%2F&s=fcc43775ff6edfd983169402c245ecb89b2433f4e41e1660547aa748aebe3eed" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://thebitplayers.blo…</a> put on such a great show.  For our show we had Anna, Clayton, Brittany and Jim with Vlad hosting. Â
The venue is small but for an improv show, small is good so you have a chance of participating as well as being able to hear and see well. Â
They have a cooler of water and canned soda for beverages as needed with a donation jar on the side inside of the theater room. Â Its BYOB .. yes bring whatever and however much you want, just not a keg ;) If you forget cups, its okay because they had solo cups to supply us for our mixed drinks. Â Every show is recorded so if your friend ends up on stage you have the opportunity to request a copy.
Hilarious. Â Pretty awesome show, great crew... good way to start a night out.
We've been going to see the Bit Players at the Firehouse for almost two years now and the shows are so much fun. I'm always surprised how by funny they are. I always try to think of a few funny "call outs" before going to a show. The most common things they ask for are occupation, relationship, and non-geographical location. The more unusual, the more likely they are to take your suggestion!
This improv show is NOT like standup comedy where you might get picked on, though you may be invited on stage (you never have to go on stage if you don't want to).
Plus, it's $10-15 and BYOB. Can't beat that price!
I went here to see the Bit Players this past Saturday (10/15) and it was the BEST comedy show I have ever been to!! They are an improv group and use input from the audience...If you don't go to this show while in Newport you are truly missing out!!! The theater is also BYOB - and you are able to call ahead for reservations. Â No need to be timid in the audience! they do not "pick" on you - but will come out to ask you some questions for their bit.....if you do want to go on stage (of course my BF volunteered us!!!) you don't have to!! Â They are HARMLESS. Â One woman there gave TWO false names before she finally admitted who she was. Â Another couple could only come up with two words to describe each other: "Hot and Beautiful" Ummm not giving them much to go on! But really, nothing embarrassing will happen to you! Just a BUNCH of laughs - show is about 2 hours long- can't wait to go back!!! Don't forget your cooler!!
Review Source:My husband and I went to see the bit players when we were back in Newport last week, it was hilarious! Â My cheeks were actually sore from laughing so hard. Â The improve comedians were very witty and I liked how they took ideas from the audience. Â The Firehouse Theater is BYOB, which is really great. Â I highly recommend it checking it out. Â We will definitely be back~
Review Source:I attended the Bit Players show last Saturday and it was so funny. The group is so quick with their comments. They had two guys playing instruments and it truly enhanced the show. Â The fire house is BYOB, that was a nice feature. Everyone there, including the bachelorette party, was having their drinks and enjoying the wonderful show. If you go, enjoy, very funny.
Review Source:The Firehouse Theater is the best place for Comedy in Southern RI, and the best place for Improv in all of Rhode Island
Every Friday and Saturday night The Bit Players perform Improv Comedy at 8PM, and in the summer there are different groups or variations of the Bit Players performing every night. The Bit Players shows are very interactive with the audience, feature singing, mime, and frankly some very weird (but funny!) bits and scenes. One of their staple games is Bartender, which is probably my favorite and they do it very well making up songs to complain about their problems and then find solutions!
Really a great place for a night out, and best of all its BYOB
