The Fishmonger Restaurant

First trip to the Ft Myers/Sanibel area.  Wanted a nice fresh seafood restaurant for dinner - found it at the Fishmonger.  Go there.
Catch of the day - from their own boats - was Scamp Grouper.  Delicious!  Served on a tomato reduction sauce with a garlic tapenade and sautéed squash, zucchini and carrots. My mom and I both ordered this entree and loved it.  Came with a salad.  
My friend ordered the all you can eat Gulf Prawns - again fresh, not frozen, from the Fishmongers own boat.  Poached head-on in a garlic, lemon, pepper sauce that enhanced the flavor of the prawns.  
Short wait for a table. Older crowd. Excellent service.  Scherry was our friendly and knowledgeable waitress. Will go back next time we are in the area.

Not bad for beach food.

After reading some good reviews of this place we decided to go down and give this place a try. The food wasn't even that bad, although I did ask them to make the shrimp linguini none spicy because it was for my 2 year old daughter and it came spicy. The bread on the side which was complimentary if I remember right was horrible, totally dry and brittle and for the most part uneatable. But the worst and biggest disappointed was the OJ, I mean we went on vacation to Florida and thought that OJ in Florida is a sure thing but it was just so horrible that you couldn't even drink it. It was just so bitter, almost as if it was expired. Anyway.

Overall it was an ok experience, but what really ticked me off is that when I went to pay ( I went to the bar because my kids were getting restless and I didn't want to wait at the table anymore ) I just had big bills so I paid him and was waiting for him to give me back my change so I could tip him. But to my amazement he was I guess so anxious about me maybe not tipping him that he tipped himself. He walked from the cash, hid behind a post and turned his back to me swiped a $10 in his pocket and then came to me and gave me my money back. I didn't say anything because I felt bad for the guy and he looked like he needed it but that was really...wow...
