We had an unique experience here today. As we walked in from the porch to go to the hostess stand for a table, we came upon a woman prone, face down on the floor, not moving. Â I looked around as I tried to assess the situation. No one was helping her. A woman came up as I did and as I was about to say call 911, she said, "did you see anything" - i said no, and she said, "i will call an ambulance". Â I kneeled down, the woman was totally out, and my stepmom came up from behind and helped turn her over. My stepmom is a nurse, and luckily the woman started to come too as we turned her over. She had a cut on her forehead. Â As my stepmom attended to her I noticed that the woman was lying nearby the kitchen, her head almost inthe doorway to the bar which you had to go through to get to the front door. Waitstaff went in and out of the kitchen without paying one bit of attention to what was going on. When my stepmom asked for towels and ice I am not even sure if it was staff or another patron who helped her get the items from the bar. Â Another woman who happened to know my stepmom and dad and was dining there started to assist my stepmom and I stepped back to make sure my 2 kids (3 and 6 years) were doing ok. Â At this point we started wondering where the rest of the woman's party was. She could answer questions, but was still quite out of it. The woman who had called 911 came back and seemed to be a manager or hostess and someone said the woman said her husband's name. Â Since still no waitstaff had offered any assistance, my dad and I went outside to find her husband. We found them just outside the door.
Since the family had been found, my dad and I sat down with my kids while my stepmom waited for the ambulance ( the woman seemed to have suffered heatstroke). My stepmom joined us a few moments later. Â Our waitress was very abrupt. I ordered the calamari salad. Since i have never ordered calamari on a salad, i was unsure about what dressing would go well with it, and asked what was the favorite dressing ordered with that salad. Her answer, "whatever people like to order with salad". I asked for a suggestion, not what i tell my kids is "backtalk" (add in a New York rude attitude to get the idea).
So anyways, the food was great! My salad was fresh and crisp, loved the calamari. My dad and stepmom loved their grouper, although their friends who were dining there thought it was to thin.
What i thought was crazy was that no manager came to us while we were dining to thank my stepmom. I still dont know if the woman who called 911 was even an employee as she never identified herself. Â I thought for sure they would comp her meal but they didnt even comp her beer! Â That is just crazy to me as my husband worked for 14 years in the restaurant industry and even audited restaurants for performance. Â What was even more odd was that a waitress came up to my stepmom as she was going to the restroom and seemed to think that my stepmom was the woman that passed out and said that she had looked for her family (what the what?).
Since I can cook almost as well as anything in a restaurant, but I rarely get to go out, service is more important to me than the food. This whole restaurant, waitstaff, managers and WHOEVER is responsible for their training deserve a big fat 0. While the food gets a 4.
