Had dinner here. It wasn't a horrible meal. I ordered the fish and it was fresh, but everything we ordered we both thought we could have made a better dinner. I guess that's why I rate it so low; it's not that it was bad food, but if I can do better, then I don't know why I'd pay someone else to cook it.
Prices are very fair. If you're a family, it's definitely affordable dining and good enough food for kids to eat.
If you're traveling on the highway don't bother making this a pit stop. it's too far off the highway.
Look, I understand this is a small town and you don't have many restaurants. Â I also understand that if you're a family or an elderly couple, or just some people looking for a quick bite, then this place is cheap and fine. Â But the best thing I can say about the food was it was better than edible.
I ended up here by chance. Â Driving from FL to CT and avoiding I-95 traffic, so we come up through the Carolinas, VA, WV and PA before cutting east to CT. Â We wanted dinner, so my girlfriend did a yelp search in the area and found this 5 star diner. Â We misjudged how far it was from the highway (not really a highway stop), but once we were committed, we kept going.
I got a hamburger, she got some fish item. Â Meh. Â That's what yelp tells you a 2 star review means, and that's what this is. Â Meh. Â Service was fine, value was great - it's really cheap - but the food is bland and really underwhelming. Â You're better off at Denny's, if there is one nearby, unless you prefer spending your money at mom & pop kind of places, in which case, go here, just load up on the salt, pepper, ketchup and hot sauce, cause their food needs all of it.
Why did it take me 2.5 years to finally drive down the road to this diner?
So many wasted opportunities for a great breakfast diner experience!
First things first: Nice coffee with frequent refills and plenty of cream and sugar!
I ordered the Western omelet with homefries. The Omelet was fully cooked (no slimy egg interior) with nicely diced green pepper, onions and ham and filled with a white mild cheese. It was hot and tasty throughout the entire meal. Homefries were soft and browned and tasty. The kitchen didn't overseason them so I could do what I wished with them.
Hub ordered two pancakes with sausage. I think the sausage was either homemade or locally made. Nice meat could use a hint more spice but still superior to most PA area sausages. The pancakes were Huuuuuuuuuggggggggeeee.
We spent $14 for the two breakfasts and coffee and our service was spot on so we over-tipped. The nice thing was several patrons knew each other and the vibe of conversations between tables was comforting.
We'll definitely be back and will be trying their chipped beef soon (it looked Nommm).
Great local place! Â don't know why we never stopped here before. Â at any rate, breakfast was good, and cheap! Â service was efficient. Â busy, but not too crowded. Â
remarkably, omelets (and even home fries!) were not greasy at all. Â don't think that I have ever encountered this lack of greasiness at any diner before. Â and pancake was huge! Â one is enough, unless you are a starving lumberjack!
