This is one of my favorite places to go unwind after a long day. Sitting out on the patio by the water is just the icing on the cake, too. This place is great to meet up with friends or head out alone.
The service is awesome. The beer selection is out of this world and the food ain't too shabby either. I like the hippie burger and the nachos, but I haven't really had anything that I didn't like either. There's also a full bar if you're meeting a huge group of beer loving friends but aren't a big beer drinker yourself.
Whatever the case, the wait staff has your back. This is a great place to hang out and socialize.
This is one of the first places I learned to acquire the taste of and begin to enjoy the better tasting craft beers in our world. Â Their beer menu is amazing, the crowd, not so much. Â It really varies, it's not that the crowd is so bad, but, it's definitely not a place to go and try and meet a lot of new friends I feel. Â They do/did have an awesome darts setup though, that is the one great place where you could have some fun beside the brews, along with the patio overlooking the lake.
They also serve food, however, I must warn you that I always was less than satisfied with the quality of their food when compared to the beers. Â I'd say skip the food and eat elsewhere.
Good food and a wide selection of great beers. Had the pork belly sandwich. Amazing pork explosion! Â It was pork belly wrapped in ham with bacon on top with a spicy apple chutney sauce. The pork belly tasted just like the roasted pig my Pacific Island friends and family eat at parties. So gooood.
Review Source:We are members of the UFO club & frequently imbibe at all 3 DFW area locations. The Lake has the very best atmosphere & management. In particular, Ryan & Becka are friendly, caring & dedicated. There have been many times we have not received credit for beers consumed at other locations & after a particularly frustrating incident wherein no one at Addison would respond, we reached out to the Lake & they made it right. We always see managers helping out on the floor (clearing tables, carrying beer). Â We go out of our way to drink at the Lake because of their great people! Â The only complaint is not even in the control of the restaurant... too many kids! Â This is a BAR. Â A BAR, NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT. Â If more people would realize that kids change your life & therefore you should be taking them to FAMILY restaurants & not to BARS, the rest of us could enjoy our BARS a lot more.
Review Source:My,My,My, where to start? Me and my besties stopped in for a cold one and some apps. The one star is for the beer that the waitress recommended, it was great! We sat in a booth and was a little set back when the guy behind us kept yelling out "Satan" and was talking to his silverware. He was obviously a homeless Jesus-looking, schizophrenic. Hey, I feel sorry for the homeless, too. I have a heart, but do I want to eat next to someone that smells like a dead corpse, hell no. And those words came from the manager, when I told her we were leaving and taking our food to go because of the stench. She apologized, and added that she really needed to  "do something" but she was scared he would cause a scene.... Excuse me, we already saw, smelled, and heard the whole movie. As we took our to go food, Jesus was at the door, making a choochoochoochoochoo noise, and close up, he smelled like a zombie.  So, if you like to eat with the stench of zombies, and get the shit  scared out of you, by all means, go to The Flying Saucer.  I think I'll head on back to Saltgrass. No zombie smell, just steak and a a manager that has some balls.
Review Source:Only giving this review 3 stars - service was good but both the beer from the cooler and the tap beer were not cold at all and the wings were the tiniest things I've ever seen. Â Basic buffalo sauce so no complaints on flavor but next to no meat on any of them. And the Rocket Tots were only so-so, the sauce tastes more like mayonnaise than anything else and while the outsides were crispy, the insides were mushy and just tasted like mashed potatoes with not much else interesting in them. Â Best part was the Angry Orchard Cider, that was delicious and colder than the other beers!
Review Source:I used to love the Flying Saucer in Addison but over time it started to show it's age and I stopped going after ordering one too many flat beers.
I was hesitant to go to this Flying Saucer after my previous experiences with the one in Addison but now I wish I went sooner. Â The beer is fantastic and the view on the patio is great. Â Who doesn't enjoy a great beer while overlooking the water? Â
My only complaint would be that the interior is really dark and they allow smoking on the patio. Â The service can be slow and the food is slightly above average bar fair, but who are we kidding this place great if you're a beer snob and like a great view.
For a beer place, I expect the beers to be colder. Like Twin Peaks cold. These were not. Obviously the variety is there.
Nice patio...except I wishd the stools were more comfortable.
Spinach dip was very stringy...I'm on the fence about it. The only good thing about the cheese fries was the bacon. I wouldn't get those again. But it's bar food.
I like this place, but it's definitely a chain restaurant feel to me. This location has a fabulous view of the water... and I think that's a big part of the charm. The beer menu is just stupid full of shit to choose from. I stared at it and said to my date "sometimes there are just too many choices"... his reply "I totally agree"... With that, he picked a regular beer and I went with what I always drink!
Food was ok, artichoke dip was good (didn't understand the tomatoes and sour cream on top) and my reuben was tasty. My only complaint are the chairs around the outside bar with the lake view... no back high bar stools. I know that they limit how much you drink since the waitress told us what that was on arrival... but doesn't a place like this want people to sit back and take it all in? The seats become hard to sit on and you are ready to go... guess that goes with the 3 beer limit (when their over 6% alcohol)... interesting concept, but I wouldn't rush back when I have some awesome local spots to hit.
The flying saucer has a bigger patio then the next door Primo's
and the food is cheaper an way better.
I went out on a Wednesday at noon sat on the patio an got a beer made from Dallas an enjoyed a Very juicy 10-12Oz Steak for only 10.99 with 2 sides, so i chose the German potato salad and the Cole slaw.
The nice part was sitting out side next to the lake in the shade. Drinking a beer an eating the steak.
I spent only 27.99 with tip with a group of 3 people.
Also there drinks menu is 2 pages longs piling with lists an options.
The service was fast, the food was great.
I have also noticed they Remodeled the inside an outside since last time i came.
If you came here before an did not like it, come back an try it one more time.
Note: Must be the age 21 or older after 9PM.
Can't really beat a butt-load of beers and a view of Lake Ray Hubbard. I would still like this place if the service was bad. But event the service is top-notch, reliable, and fun! For bar food fare, this reigns almost supreme. I highly suggest the soft pretzel they serve.
The expansive space allows for a large gathering of people to drink copious amounts of beer while playing darts, live trivia, or just reciting their beer knurd knowledge. Similar to other Flying Saucer locations, there is beer signage covering the walls enticing you to a brew even more.
The Rockwall location is well-established joint for new and old friends to come together for laid-back time. The stress free environment makes me wonder if anyone ever leaves in a foul mood? Probably not.
Let's get something straight right outta the box: Â I love The Flying Saucer and I love this location of the Saucer most of all. Â What's better than sitting on a shady patio, sipping cold beer and watching the lake do its thing? Â Not much, I say. Â Of all the patios in Dallas, this is one of my favorites.
I finally made it to Tuesday Trivia and our server, Danielle, was phenomenal. Â She took care of our group of 16 or so like we were a group of 4. Â She kept the table full of food and beer - despite the fact that we were horrible at coordinating our requests - and didn't even blink an eye when it came time to split out our individual checks. Â This is the kind of service you hope to get every single time you go out.
All right, that's out of the way. Â Now let's get to the ugly. Â Who the fuck hired the trivia chick?! Â I get that trying to entertain a bar full of drinking folks probably isn't the easiest gig in town but this was one of the tamest groups of bar folks I've seen in a while. Â No one was drunk and disorderly, no one was heckling, no one was being hard to handle. Â Im'ma go out on a limb and say if you don't even like people and can't hide your disdain for them, being a trivia host probably isn't the gig for you. Â She started out surly and ended the night downright pissed off and bitchy. Â It was painfully obvious she didn't like her job and wanted to be anywhere but there.
Despite the sullen poopypants, I had yet another fantastic time at the Saucer thanks to a bad ass group of friends and a little help from the beerknurds. Â I guess it's a testament to how fantastic The Flying Saucer really is that I'm not even going to hold her against them.
Not to sound like an alcoholic, but I like beer. So how happy was I to finally visit the Flying Saucer I'd heard so much about. I will say that the beer selection is bar none - seriously the best I've ever seen. The problem? The service. It's horrible. We were acknowledged by the staff as we went out to the deck (it's a seat yourself scenario out there). But then we waited...and waited...and waited just to have someone pay attention and take our order. Order finally in...and then we waited...and waited...and waited.
Truth is, we were about to leave when the young woman who had seen us arrive in the first place came over and asked if we'd been helped yet. Just as we were explaining the wait issue, our drinks arrived. Because we'd already had dinner, we didn't order food, but the menu was interesting in a good way (chicken fried steak with jalapeno gravy? YES!) and my boyfriend swears by the Rocket Tots.
From the looks of things, our waitress was only dealing with our area, and while busy, there really was no excuse for the wait. Still, the beer special was tasty and I'd be willing to give it another crack. I mean, what can be better than sipping on something tasty while looking out on Lake Ray Hubbard? Not much, though they could light the anti-bug torches sooner...it can get VERY buggy. Not on a schedule? Go for it. But if you're looking for something quick, I get the feeling you aren't likely to get it.
It's a chain beer garden and as such it lacks some of the personality of locally owned pubs. Â However, it's one of very few other choices in the area.
I've been going there for years. Â The service is always friendly and pretty quick.
The beer selection is outstanding. Â Probably one of the best in DFW for choice.
The patio is a big plus in my book. Â Right on the lake of course. Â They used to allow dogs, now they don't. Â They say it's a new city ordinance, but either way it's a huge negative for me. Â We constantly look for patios to bring our dog, so the Saucer gets passed up more as a choice to go for that reason now.
Trivia on Tuesday nights is always a ball. Â
Food is poor and it makes no sense. Â They try and fancy it up, but the flavor and choice just isn't there. Â I don't know how you can mess this up as people who like to drink also like to eat. Â We stick to the chips and queso, pretzels and popcorn. Â Anything else is just blah.
Love the beer selection though.
A TWEET I received last Wednesday...FlyingSaucerLak: Lunch Special is ChickenCaesarPita with a side/drink for $6.99. Â Retweet this and show the MOD for 1/2 price lunch. $3 Newcastle all day.
How awesome is that??? AND the Chicken Caesar Pita is actually 2 Chicken Caesar Pitas with chips & salsa, pickle spear, and a fountain drink.
$7.00 is a great price for this, but $3.50- You bet I was there!!!
The pitas were tasty and filling. I had not had them before. We always love the chips and salsa. Cat, our server, was very nice and helpful. She took the time to talk to us, as well as her other customers. She had to fix our bill because of the discounts, but she was more than willing to help and very pleasant while doing so- always had a smile.
Thanks, Cat!
Special note: This is my 400th review (!) on Yelp; it's been a great ride, now on to the next 400!
My wife and I visited for a trivia night with some other Yelpers on a Tuesday night, and we had a blast. There are huge windows overlooking the lake, giving a beautiful view. My wife had the soft pretzels for an appetizer, and they were spectacular. Very soft and flavorful, they went great with the supplied queso. My tostada chips and queso were great as well, and by the time I ordered a couple of beers during trivia, we didn't have room for entrees or dessert, plus we were too busy answering questions and hamming it up with the other Yelpers!
This place has a great atmosphere and is a beer lovers dream. Couple that with the great lake view, and it's a winner! If it weren't so far away, we'd be back often. Give it a try if you're in the area!
I've been to the location in Addison and feel like they are pretty similar in atmosphere on the inside, but talk about a view on from the outside. This spot is right on the lake and has a great outdoor deck. However, during the middle of July, I'm not crazy enough to hang out on the deck while it's 110 degrees!
We went on Tuesday for their Tuesday night trivia. The questions were displayed on a big screen using a projector so it's easy to see if you can't hear the questions over the noise in the bar. Trivia night is VERY popular, so if you want to get a table for a group of people, either get there early or even call ahead to reserve a table for your group. TONS of beers to choose from and daily specials. It's a little bit of a trek but if you have the time and want to enjoy the view and some cold beer it's totally worth the short drive from Dallas.
Also, must give the staff credit for a great job. Not only was the place packed and all kinds of commotion from the trivia going on, but our waitress came by often to make sure we were taken care of and even did a great job of splitting up the tickets for our large group.
This place was a lot further than I thought, but it's a pretty simple straight shot down 30 from my place. Â I went last night for the trivia night (thanks Chip for the invite). Â The Sierra Nevada Pale Ale was on special for $3 so that's what I had. Â The space club sandwich was super good. Â The fries that came along with it were nice too. Â I practically inhaled the thing. Â I could see that this place would be really fun when the weather cools down some. Â The view of the lake is really pretty.
Shout out to the multiple scoregasms for 1st place. Â YAY!
View of the lake is great, and the patio is terrific. The service can be ho-hum, but they take care of you. We had a turkey sandwich on Cibata that just didn't taste right, our waitress replaced it w/o question with a Delicious Bacon, Cheddar, avocado burger that was smokey and perfectly cooked.
We also had Beer Brat that was super tasty. But the holy grail of soup even on a 100+ deg day on the patio is their Spicy Beer Cheese soup. GAWD its good. It comes in a bread bowl and trust me you're going to be eating every last morsel. Its Spicy it's Cheesy, and although I don't drink beer, its got a nice flavor that only a beer can provide.
The German potato salad leave quite a lot to be desired, but I remember it being better. Maybe they were having an off night. The fries were ok, nothing to write home about.
Beer GA. LORE. They have every beer you could imagine!
This was the first Flying Saucer, and I couldn't have chosen a better one to make a first impression! It was a little hard to find since I'm not from around that area. You have to go into the Bass Pro Shop parking lot, and it'll be over there to your right. The patio seating area looks over the entire lake, and it is just beautiful and relaxing. I had gone on a bit of a humid night, so definitely go when it's not melting your face off.
If you're not much of a beer drinker but would be open to give it a try, then come here! While I was waiting for someone, the bartender let me try a few samples of beers. He asked me what kind of beers I liked and didn't like, and from there he chose some beers he thought I would like. I can't remember names, but I remember trying a coffee-flavored beer that tasted exactly like what it is. Wasn't too bad. I'd ask for a sample before I order a glass of that though because it's a bit different.
I LOVE this location of flying saucer!
The patio is great when the weather is nice (but not too hot). Â The bugs can get pretty bad in the summer, so March through maybe mid-June is the best time. Â I just wish they would get great bands outside instead of letting us all enjoy the patio bands at Primo's!
There is a constant selection of hundreds of beers, both domestic and import. Â The waitresses aren't too keen on beer knowledge, but the menus have good descriptions and they offer tasters of anything on tap.
They have a Fire Sale, which is a daily sale on one of the tapped beers for only $2.75. Â Most of the domestic beers are overpriced, so I try to only order import or Fire Sale brew. Â Monday night is Pint Night where every tapped beer is on sale...and Sunday is when all Texas pints are only $2.75.
The food is mediocre, good for the price but nothing to rave about. Â They have trivia nights on Tuesday, certain daily specials on food throughout the week, and often show sporting events on the big screen.
More beer than you can shake a salt shaker at and a great patio. Â Probably the best patio in the metroplex when the weather is good.
As for being a family place, if you are comfortable bringing your kids to a place where beer is served (I would) then go for it. Â I've been there a number of times and there are almost always at least one couple with a kid in tow. Â
Having never been there past 9:30 or so, I can say that the crowd is noisy but pretty tame. Â Very intergenerational crowd. Â This FS doesn't have live music and that's a bonus as far as I'm concerned.
Good pub grub -- I prefer the Saucer Burger w/fries and the salsa which comes with the chips is muy garlicy. Â Again, a bonus. Â The Reubenesque is quite good but could use more pastrami.
A hint: Â free popcorn while they have it. Â It tastes O.K. but like it was popped a couple of hours ago.
Also, the waitresses (Beer Goddesses) generally know their stuff when it comes to beer and can help you make your way through what can be a daunting task of choosing your first beer.
And, yes, they wear short skirts, but who cares. Â The FS is all about the beer.
Some of these reviews make me giggle as they are describing their food experience. I don't really think the most ideal place to go eat is ever a bar/pub, but hey. To each his own.
Now when it comes to beer, that is an ENTIRELY different story. It took me a while to even begin to appreciate beer, but coming here and the Ginger Man has really helped me open my mind. A friend and I recently joined the UFO Club. You get a snazzy little "beerknurds" shirt (and actually we joined in Addison, but whatever). So what you do is basically try 200 of their huge selection of beers. Not in one sitting, don't be silly. Only 3 different beers per night count. Once you reach that magic number of 200, you get one of those cool saucer plates which you will find if you look straight up. Seems like fun and a good way to figure out beers that I enjoy. We've made it a tradition to go every Saturday night so if you ever see a girl and a guy (with pretty curly hair) that's us! Say hi! We won't bite.. hard..
Service is good and quick here! There's one bartender who seems to be there every time we go right as you walk in, and he's actually a sweetheart. Super attentive, non-douchey like so many others, and hey, he's cute. The waitresses all seem nice, and ew to that comment about them dressing slutty to make tips. Rude.
Of course, the environment is beautiful. It's right next to Lake Ray Hubbard which I'm sure is beautiful during the summer and not in 15 degree weather. Brrr. And the fact that it's not SUPER crowded is nice. I like to be able to drink my beer without having to bump elbows with others.
Also, there's a 24-hour dining Whataburger in that same area for any post-bar activities.
Read a review that pissed me off so I have to say this..
THIS IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT!!!
THIS IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT!!!
THIS IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT!!!
THIS IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT!!!
THIS IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT!!!
THIS IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT!!!
THIS IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT!!!
THIS IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT!!!
I mean seriously, when you walk in and see two walls of beer tabs, what the hell do you think it is? The short skirts are uniforms, no one dresses like a slut for a tip. If they wanted to be whores, they would work as strippers.
And people, for the love of god, please stop bringing children in here. When I drink I don't want some stupid ass little shit screaming around me. I'm getting drunk for a reason.
Good food, great beer. Usually good service, but there are some slackers. Great atmosphere. My favorite bar in Dallas.
I must confess-this is still one of my favorite places on this side of the Metroplex. Â The food still great, the beer selection still ridiculous, the staff still helpful and will recognize you as a regular. Â It is simply a great place to get together and enjoy good friends and good beer. Â You won't be sorry you visited.
When you stop by have a little toast for me(around plate 70 would be a good place), I promise I have probably raised a glass  to you!
This is my favorite location of this beer-drinkers staple for a number of reasons. Â One - its hard to beat a lakeside patio. Â Even in the hot Texas summers there is usually a nice breeze coming off of the lake. Â Two - they have a full bar. Â You want a Crown & Coke at the Saucer's downtown Fort Worth location? Â You better walk to 8.0's. Â Heck, they will even make some pretty great shots for you (ask for a "Pear Bomb," I dare you).
Of course, the beer selection here is a thing of beauty. Â This goes without saying. And you can drive your boat up to their slip and walk right in to the bar. Â Now I just need to get a boat...
I've been to this Flying Saucer location more times than I can count, namely because of it's proximity to the lake and the dock. Yep, that's right kids - you can drive your boat to this Flying Saucer.
I'm a big fan of the patio there. It overlooks the lake and dock and you can watch other boats and the fisherman. It's great vantage point. We watched one guy try to run across his boat when he was docking and totally bust ass, sliding off his boat into the water. Poor guy. He had not only our patio, but the adjacent Primo's patio howling with laughter. I digress...
Speaking of the patio at Primo's, it's proximity can be somewhat problematic. I've been on the FS patio a few times when Primo's has live music on their patio, and sometimes their musicians are horrendous. One time, the guy was so bad we had to heckle from our deck... But I digress again...
The waitstaff here can be questionable. I've had great service at times, and horrible at others. The same goes for the food. Sometimes the food is really good. I'll usually split an order of the brats with someone, or get a cheeseboard. However, there has been at least twice that the food here has given me a stomach ache.
The girl's bathroom also has that lovely sewage smell that never goes away... Not in the year I've been going here.
They have big screen TVs so you can watch sports and there is Wi Fi. Did I mention this place has quite the beer list as well? Anyone whose ever been to a Flying Saucer knows this place has plethora o' booze. After an afternoon of drinking here, you'll be happy there's a big lake nearly to vomit in.
This place is awesome. Yes I was informed it was a chain, but the location is great. It's right on the water (did you know TX had water, I didn't) Â and has a chilly indoor bar and a fanned outdoor section. There's so much beer here to try I became overwhelmed. Luckily they offer samplers so we got to try lots! Very laid back and chill with decent food. The outdoor bartender was our server for 8 of us and he did an awesome job! If they could just get the annoying one-man-band that plays live music at the next door bar to stop singing, it would be perfect!
P.S. Stop at the jerky outlet down the street on the way out, you'll be happy you did!
I am so glad they opened this place up, now when I have a craving for Belgian beer I no longer have to head out to the Addison location or hit up CM or Mr. G's in Plano. Â This location has a full bar, including liquor and mixed drinks. Â However, they are famous for their extensive beer selection. Â They have beer brewed right here in the metroplex, to beer from halfway around the world. Â Ale, Porter, Lager, you name the style they have it. Â They even serve non-alcoholic beer, and generic swill like Bud Light and Coors. Â They also offer a couple varieties of gluten free beer, so even those on a special diet or with celiac can enjoy.
I went on a Thursday night after 8 and while the place was busy, it was not nearly the crowd I would expect. Â I've seen the Addison location packed wall to wall on a weekday afternoon. Â This place was only about half to 3/4 of capacity, and considerably quieter. Â I think the real advantage of this location is that it sits on the lake. Â They have a nice out door deck, it's a good place to relax and enjoy a brew.
They have a small menu consisting of pizza, sandwiches, nachos and such. Â Better than average bar food, but still not a place to have dinner. Â They also have snack trays with assorted meats, cheeses, fruit, and garnishes.
My only complaint about this location was it was a bit dirty. Â The table I was at had not been wiped down and it needed it. Â I kept getting nasty food residue on my menu.
What did I learn at FS?
-Italians wear red underwear for good luck in the new year
-A fingerprint is actually called a... wait a second, I don't remember
-McLovin is a great team name
-Purple Haze is a great raspberry wheat brew
Though this may sound like a rowdy night with Italians, drinking Purple Haze, enjoying some McLovin, until we ended up at PD getting printed- this is not the case. Â It was just the weekly trivia night.
One very awesome thing about the trivia is they give an award after every round, in addition to a grand prize. Â We walked away with a $10 gift certificate after breezing through the first round. Â We finished well, 2nd place overall, but no reward for that. Â
The servers are always around. Â Actually, perhaps around too much? Â Our waitress must have asked "Y'all doing alright?" at least 25 times. Â Seriously, we're ok. Â I'll call out if we need an ambulance, and you can see that my cup is still very full. Â Thanks though.
I'll be back.
I expect this Flying Saucer to get some strange reviews because the crowd and location is unusual for FS. I'm not sure if folks understand that FS is a beer pub first, a restaurant second.
Looking around at the tables on opening weekend, I started to wonder if folks were overflowing from the nearby restaurants. There were a lot of kids and families which is weird for FS. Several months after opening, the place is still full so maybe the locals are realizing what a gem they have.
If you're looking for a fancy restaurant, please go somewhere else and come back for a pint afterwards.
The patio overlooking the lake is AMAZING. By far the best patio of any bar in DFW. (Except... no heaters yet, so it's closed right now.. hopefully they'll fix that soon?) Watching the sunset with a good pint and a cool breeze from the lake makes you feel hundreds of miles from Dallas.
They serve liquor so you can bring a slightly different crowd than some of the other FS locations.
This is my favorite FS so far because of three things: 1) no live bands and thus no cover charges, 2) the AMAZING patio/deck, 3) liquor!
I've heard a lot about the Flying Saucer, but most of the comments flew by my head. So when I passed by this location, I did not know what to expect. This Flying Saucer was located by two other restaurants: Texas Steak & Cattle and some Grill with live music bumping.
From the outside appearance, you wouldn't expect much from it and once you go in you won't be disappointed. The waitresses are all young ladies walking around in really short skirts ~ private school girl themed. I guess their food isn't that great so they have to sell their bodies in order to get good tips.
From the environment to the waiters to the food nothing was really special; it was like visiting Cheddar's in a dingy low lit diner. My sister and I ordered the Saucer burger and a chicken quesadilla and figured it was something we could have made at home with better quality. The only good thing about The Flying Saucer would have to be its location, next to the lake.
For those of us on the eastside that aren't within 5 minutes of 200 bars, this new Flying Saucer location makes our lives a lot easier. Â
Previously, if I wanted a decent beer I would have to drive 15+ miles to "somewhere/whereever", Dallas, but now, (NOW!) I have the glorious Flying Saucer on the Lake. Their billboard on 30E boasts "the most beers in Texas", and I believe it! Every beer I've ever wanted has been on their menu, and my friends -that actually drink beer often- say its extremely good, as well :P
Here, you can chose to sit in the (smokeless!) dining room indoors, or you can enjoy your evening on the patio overlooking the lake. You can eat a full meal, or grab an appetizer and some beers.
My food has always been tasty- I usually opt for the salmon club ( I forget the menu name at the moment) and rocket-tots (spicy taters), but last time around I bought the goat cheese pizza and was majorly impressed with the taste. MMMMmmm.
My friends and I go here often and usually the waitresses are on point. I've had one bad experience with a waitress here, but it certainly won't ruin an entire restaurant for me. I recommend you go here and get a table by the window to enjoy the view without mosquitos- and bonus(!) those tables are extremely close to the dartboards for some drunken fun later :).
Attention please: The Flying Saucer has landed in Rockwall. Â Feel free to sing a song of thanksgiving to the beer gods for this development, or to simply cry happy tears for a few minutes. Â Shhh, you're fine now, see? :) Â
As anyone living in the Rockwall/Rowlett area can attest to, there is basically nothing to do after approximately 9-10 pm most nights of the week (nothing that ends well, at least). Â Well friends, this is no longer the case now that beer heaven is a place on earth in the 972. Â The County Line BBQ next to Bass Pro closed up shop and was replaced by The Flying Saucer. Â **EDIT**: Located right off I-30 on Bass Pro Dr, on the way into Rockwall, apparently in the Garland city limits.
I made my first pilgrimage to this new location last night with a group of six other kids (and I say kids because I was actually the oldest one, totally unheard of!) Â There was relatively close parking in the giant lot, considering it was 10:30 on a Tuesday night, so we headed inside only to get carded at the door. Â Note: unlike Trinity Hall and similar establishments, they will not allow anyone under 21 inside; one of our group is not yet of age so he had to hit the road :(
Their space is really nice for being a converted barbecue joint. Â Unlike the Austin location, it has low ceilings but a really large room with tables and booths, as well as a spacious patio to gaze over the lake while you knock back a few pints. Â Our group perused the beer list that goes on for days and eventually ordered, but the place wasn't exactly hoppin' at almost 11 pm on Tuesday. Â They've only been open for about two weeks now, but our waitress said it has been crowded to the max on the weekends and surprisingly, that a lot of their patrons primarily wanted food. Â I didn't look over the food menu because I had beer on the brain, but it seemed more extensive than the selection at their other locations.
Over the course of the evening, I had an oatmeal stout (one of my favorites) and, as suggested by our waitress, a glass of Magic Hat #9, a delicious "not quite pale ale" from Vermont. Â Of course, I ordered a soft pretzel, because the FS does them up so nice, I almost feel obligated to order one. Â Seriously, those bitches are well salted and slightly crispy on the outside but totally soft and delicious inside with a side of queso for dipping (muaha I just re-read that and realized how it sounds), how could you say no? Â
I tried a cracker and piece of smoked gouda that someone else ordered and it was pretty good as well, but I wouldn't want an entire plate with my beers. Â Two of our group ordered flights, Germany and UK/Ireland I believe, and they were both happy with their choices. Â Plus, at around $8.50-$10ish, you get to try 5 oz glasses of 5 different beers, so it's a pretty sweet deal IMO.
Honestly, I can't say enough positive things about this place.  If you're a beerfan in the area and are tired of trekking into Dallas for something that doesn't  end in "lite", you have got to make a trip to The Flying Saucer.  I know the other locations (Dallas, Austin, Houston) do trivia nights, and I forgot to inquire about it at this location, but I'll update if I hear anything.  Open Monday-Saturday until 2 am, I have a strong feeling I'm going to spend a significant portion of my paychecks here on a regular basis.  Let's face it, delicious beer makes me happy, even if it makes my liver and waistline sad.
