We went the Fog Bank on Fathers Day Sunday.  We sat ourselves down at a table, a guy gave us two menus, and the waitress took our order a few minutes later.  I had the clam chowder in a bread bowl.  My wife had the F.B. Special.  They gave her both the home fries and the fruit when she chose the fruit.  We took the home fries for my son to eat later.  I was missing the bread piece from the center of my bread bowl.  I only got the top crust.  The crust was slightly toasted and spread with butter which gave it more flavor.  The waitress was polite and recommended some dishes to try.  The food and the service were good.  The price was very reasonable.

Cheapest of the Capitola Village spots, it won't break your bank. You walk in to a bare bones eatery in terms of bland furniture and decorations. But sit out on the back patio and get a sea view. Let's hear it for the Texas French Toast, with hints of cinnamon. Hit up the Hot Chocolate, so good looking! So are the coffees. #funtimes

Went here with a group of friends the other day.  Located in the heart of Capitola, first order of business was parking.  Cheap, but tough to come by.  Once we did that, we made our way over.  Located on the water, the view from the deck is pretty awesome.

The wife and I checked out the (abused) menu.  She ordered the Chef's Chicken Sandwich, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger (with swiss, no less...kudos!).  Our buds ordered the calamari.   The wife was happy that they had hot tea.  I was dismayed (hell, shocked is a better word) that they have RC Cola.  Is that even legal outside of Alabama?  REALLY?  Diet RC tastes like regular coke...blech!

our orders showed up - first impressions:
    - burger, looked good
    - chef's chicken sandwich was 99.9999999% bread.
    - calamari was not golden brown, it was brown.  Definitely overcooked.

But taste is where it's at.  The wife agreed with the bread issue, and just took the top off, folded the bottom over, and she was all good...though it was great.

My bud LOVED the calamari - I tried a piece, and agreed, he'd won the day on his selection.

My burger was ok.  Mustard came in little packets - I got one, asked for another, gave up after five minutes.  The fries were just plain cold.  No seasoning to top that off.

Overall, it's not a bad place.  But with Margaritaville RIGHT next door, you'd think they'd try a bit harder.  Next time we're in town, we'll probably go with Jimmy's place.

Sunday night is jam night. Sunday night this place rocks! Great house blues band. Great friendly mixture of locals and out-of-towners, great line up of drop-in musicians and singers, great crowd looking for any excuse to jump around on the dance floor. I dropped in to sing a few songs with the band during the open mic portion of the evening because that's what I do.. and left feeling like a G.D. rock star due to the loud encouragement of the juiced up crowd.  The funnest, least inhibited, open-mic jamming venue of its kind that I have ever been to. Despite the drive from San Jose to Capitola... *of course* I'm going back there again!

uhm.. I have no opinion on the food. I didn't eat anything.

This is probably the best bar in the area. My wife and I have been going here since we started dating. Everyone is nice and friendly. This past Saturday 2/9/2013 we stayed all night while the band played late into the night. I don't get to Capitola as often as I like but everytime I do I make sure to grab a pint at The Fog Bank

The best live music!  The best drinks and beer selection!  The best bartendars in all of Capitola!  If you're visiting Capitola The Fog Bank needs to be number one on you're list!

Well, I don't even know where to begin.
So first of all, we were told we could seat ourselves. Finding a seat wasn't an issue because the place was practically empty. Inside smelled like smoke and had flies everywhere and the outside was wet and quite small. We choose sitting outside. Even though the sun was blinding our eyes, our ears were soothed by the sound of the ocean.
If you do choose to sit outside, protect your food. Seagulls will be waiting. Oh, and don't look up. There's a chance you'll get pooped on (we were lucky enough to have a bird poop on our table).
Besides the seating dilemma, the food came out pretty quick. The plating was nice. The food itself was ehh... I didn't dig the fries very much but that could just be me. The total cost of the meal was $36 for two adults and two children. Not bad at all. But then came the worst part...
the bathroom. So gross. Nothing about it was sanitary. Public bathrooms are bad but this one was just deplorable. I would recommend some strong cleaning detergents.
Well, going to Capitola was a fun experience. I'll probably choose someplace else to go to for lunch next time.

We don't know Capitola very well, sad for us. Stopped by on a whim. This place had a Crabcake Benedict that sounded yummy. Since we didn't know better, we went in. I was really hungry. We waited, and waited and waited. There were only a few other tables there, so we were perplexed as to why the food was taking so long. When my food finally came out, the crabcakes were black. But I needed sustenance so said my prayers and ate it. So far I'm not puking, but I wouldn't push my luck and try again.

They said they would give us a discount, and gave us 10% off. Meh.

This restaurant is why I USUALLY check yelp before walking into a restaurant! Yelp is a great tool and next time, tired or not, I will check before blindly walking into a resaurant.

Our server was really nice so we didn't stiff him. He should get a job someplace else where the cook gives a you know what.

Sad to see all the haters giving poor reviews for the Fog Bank...people, it's a BAR.  They have a fair selection of food on their menu but I stick with the apps and drinks.  The calamari is awesome and fried to perfection every time.  Good beer selection and they make a mean bloody mary which is perfect on those days your waiting for the overcast skies to burn off.

Sit on the patio, watching the beach happenings and relaxing.  It doesn't get any better.

The bathroom could use a little sprucing up.

Very, very mediocre. My burger was okay, but everything else that my friends ordered was very low quality. The Captain's Platter was a joke. The people were nice, but the service was terrible - they forgot to start my friend's meal until all of us were done eating, and tried to make it up to us by giving him a cup of clam chowder.

They then forgot to give us our check for another 15 minutes, even after our repeated asking. I stood up and walked over a few times to remind them, and when the check finally arrived, it had an error. I was also paying for another table, and it took another 15 minutes for them to give me that table's check as well. With all the delays, we ended up spending an extra 45 minutes at a mediocre restaurant. And it wasn't even that busy.

Oh, and the waitress was sassy, and may have tried to flirt with my friend.

We wanted to live dangerously, so we tried this place for brunch without yelping it first. I'm so sorry yelp, I'll never turn my back on you again.

Tried an breakfast burrito, and it was burned completely black on the underside, which they so cleverly hid from me until I took my first bite. I didn't send it back, but I didn't eat it either. It's not a cheap place either.

One plus- our server was really nice!

    Great service, really nice people.

Unfortunately the food was awful. I had fish and chips, and what I got for about $10 was broken up fish crumbs mixed into a small portion of fries. The fries were pretty good, but the fish... man, not even sure it all came from the same fish. And when I tried to pick it up with a fork, it would just break apart immediately.

My date had a breakfast burrito that was completely burned on the bottom, and the ham inside of it was burnt pretty badly too.

Bathroom kind of smells bad too.

    Nice wait staff though.

My friends and I needed to warm up since the beach wasn't as warm as we thought it would be.  We figured we'd try this place to grab some drinks to get warm.  We walk in...no one greeted us.  Yes, it was the weekend and there were more people than usual but it took about 20 minutes for someone to even say "hi" to us even when we tried making eye contact with the bartender AND other servers that passed by.  It'd be nice to have acknowledgement so I know I'll be eventually helped...

When we finally got acknowledgement one of the servers seemed nice but she said, "I'd love to help you but I have to see if I can since people may get upset if I take their section..." Understandable.  We waited longer...nothing.  My friends get antsy and got up and got menus from another table and we start looking at them.  I'm almost wanting to inch my way to the bar and get drinks there but bartender is also busy with customers.  AGAIN I try looking at a server that passes by as she is trying to serve other people to get at LEAST a "sorry for the wait, let me get these people and help you guys in a bit..."  NOPE...no acknowledgement.

Finally, getting tired of waiting and wanting to drink we decided to walk out...as we got up the girl that gave us acknowledgement earlier but had to check if she can serves us tries to get us to stay, "I can take you girls!" ...One of my friends was already out the door and unfortunately I had to look at her and say, "sorry, we'll be going"

For a place that gets most their business from tourists, etc. you'd hope they'd give better service.  But I figure maybe they also think that if you get a lot of traffic you don't need to have that great of service 'cuz some sucker would wait forever for a table or a drink.  At least for me, I'll pass on this place and tell others to if they ask me about it.  Unless you like being ignored I'd say skip it.  There's plenty of other places to grab a drink or bite to eat

Went here for breakfast.  Ordered toast, bacon, eggs with cheese and fruit cup.  The toast was the best part of the meal.  The bacon was undercooked and 100% fat.  The eggs were just scrambled eggs... obviously no adds to the eggs (i.e. milk).  They weren't fluffy.  The fruit cup was honeydew melon and cantalope... hardly a "fruit cup".

The view was nice.  They had one server for the entire place.. which really got packed.  I felt bad for the waitress.

The menu is VERY limited.  The best part - the drinks are relatively cheap.

Tip: don't order a mimosa.  A mimosa is $5.25 and is 90% OJ.  Ask for a glass of champagne (which is $5.00) and ask them to top it off with OJ.

The staff was very friendly, we chose to eat here for breakfast because you can see a view of the ocean/pier from inside and they had "crab benedict" on their specials board outside. I didn't order it but my friend did and i had a small piece it was okay. Not a big fan of crab cakes though. :-) After we sat down we had to change tables because the one we were at was VERY wobbly, things could use a little maintenance for sure. I split the avocado and turkey omelet with my mom, it was pretty good, not very big but enough when it comes with fruit and an english muffin on the side. We also ordered a mimosa and coffee. The coffee was pretty good and only $1.95.

I just like FogBank. The staff is kinda spotty. Not rude, just very laid back. But so is the atmosphere here.

Pretty good, pretty standard beers on tap and in the bottle. Great outdoor seating. Very small space but close,.I always end up in some conversation with my table neighbors.

On a beautiful day like Saturday. The small patio at the Bank is just perfect.

Went for lunch and had the Fish and Chips. Not only ample portion, but the fish was the lightest I have ever had. It was delicious! Christy, the bartender was super and not afraid to mix any drink. The waitstaff seems very conscientious about getting your food out while it's still hot.

They have an outside area for smoking that looks directly upon the ocean. Just beautiful. I would recommend this place anytime.

1 paper thin slice of turkey for your sandwich!!!!
    Filthy bathroom. Not kidding!
My waitress was nice so that's why they get 1 start. When we left disappointed we continued to walk down towards the beach, we saw a big crowd eating @ Zelda's , darn I wish I went there! For sure next time I will try it there

Tried to eat here recently.  My family and I ended up walking out because the service was so bad.  It was just after the lunch rush and there were no more than 4 groups on the deck outside and only a few patrons inside at the bar.  The waitress however was unable to keep up.  It took her a long time to get us our menus and it seemed like she was never coming back for our order.  We didn't even see her working inside, she just disappeared.
Also the deck smelled like urine whenever the wind changed and this made us less patient.  You don't want a foul smell when sitting at a restaurant.

First of all, I would like to say the waitress was nice enough to let us eat our lunch on the dock or balcony (whatever you want to call it) with our dog when they could have easily said no.  +1 star!

Luckily, I did not have any issues with customer service as the previous yelpers.  Service was prompt and friendly.  My drink was always full, the waitress checked to make sure everything was okay and even complimented on how cute my dog was.  +1 star.

I wish I could give stars for the food, but it was typical bar food.  I ordered the calm chowder and captain's plate (consisted of fried calamari, fries and prawns).  The captain's plate was okay, but I felt a bit cheated as the plate consisted mainly of fries with a little bit of calamari and prawns.  Out of the whole plate I only got 4 or 5 prawns.  WEAK!

I was hoping to have a better experience with the calm chowder.  I was expecting creamy, rich calm flavor, but all I got was garlic.  GARLIC? Yes, garlic.  To be honest, I LOVE garlic, but the garlic overpowered the calms.  Also, it seemed they were cutting corners to make more soup as it was watered down more than I would have liked.

To add to this experience, I had to listen to a drunken lady talk to her friends in a extremely LOUD voice about how she realized she no longer loved her now ex-husband.. blah blah blah. Funny, yet annoying.

In respect to their food, I would skip this place, but if you are looking to have a few drinks and enjoy the view of the beach.  I would give this place another try.

I'm reviewing this place not based upon the food, seeing as I didn't get to try any. But the lack of customer service my friends and I received here today.

I realize that it was a busy weekend for tourists and all, but really?

We walked in to the "Funnest Bar and Grille" with out  a greeting. The place was busy and I couldn't really pick out who was a worked there and who was just a patron. Everyone just blended in, which made it hard to try to get anyone's attention. We stood there waiting for someone to seat us, or speak to us, that never happened.

I finally spotted a girl who was serving people, I made eye contact, and smiled hoping to not seem too annoyed and rude. She didn't come over to us at all. She stared at us, walked to the bar to talk to someone who also was working there, walked towards us, PASSED us without a word, and began taking the order or another group of people. Let me just help these employees out with a few things that would have been nice had she said anything,

    1.Hello//Hey//Hi
    2.Sorry about the wait
3.I will be with you in a second
4.Let me take their order and I will be right with you
    5.SOMETHING!!!

Anyways, our group walked out, I'm a stickler for customer service. I just wanted a hello. geez! This was not the funniest bar and grille. We went to Zelda's instead!

My husband and I were cruising down 1 when we decided to stop in crackatola to walk around their little downtown area. As we walk by this place, we heard live music (turned out to be the Lara Price Band) and decided to go in...

After having a couple of drinks (served by a friendly female bartender), I got curious about Hot Spot, and headed toward the bar to ask the lady how to play. Instead, some anal mf was there who had the most hateful vibe told me all angrily,  "Don't know, don't care!!!" and then begins attending to someone else. Yep. Fuck that bastard, and in the end, that place too... would NEVER go back!!

WOW!  It's been a little over FOREVER since I've written a review.  Mostly I've been enjoying all the same ol places now that I have my little toddler all over.  This being one of the first "new" places I've tried, I have to get back into the whole review writing phase.

This place is hecka cool.  It's a great relaxed environment with a laid back ambiance.  I ordered the FB Specialty Omelette and my wife had the Turkey/Avocado omelette.  Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals...except for the fact that about 1/3 of each of our servings of potatoes were BURNT.  Not overcooked, not slightly darkened...BURNT TO A BURNT CRISP!  Not very tasty...but the ones that weren't burnt were pretty good.

I ordered my 19 month old a Kid's grilled cheese sandwich.  Out came THREE halves and fries.  That's a KIDS portion?  Noelle liked it a lot and of course I had to try it.  I liked the two different kinds of cheeses they had in it.  I believe it was either Colby Jack or a blend of cheddar slices and jack cheese slices.  Either way, pretty good for a kids grilled cheese sandwich.

Waitresses were cool and chill and the music was playing some cool tunes from the "touch screen jukebox".  A good lunch before playing on the beach.

Only a minus point for the "burnt offering" (aka potatoes)

We were in need of some sustenance before heading back home after a deluxe weekend in Capitola. We strolled the beach front and settled on Fog Bank for some sandwiches. Although it was a Sunny Sunday, the place wasn't crowded at all and we were able to grab a table for 5 on the back deck.

I ended up ordering the B.L.T. with Avocado and the bf ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with green chilies. On a random note, I ordered a Diet Coke but was told they only served RC Cola....RC?!  Wow, now that was a flashback from the 80s!

Our food came out soon after. My B.L.T. had a good amount of crunchy bacon but the fries were just "meh". The bf's sandwich was also ok but needed a little kick of extra hot sauce. Prices were alright at about $7 a sandwich.

Overall, it was an OK dining experience but you just can't beat enjoying a lazy afternoon on the back deck overlooking the ocean. :)

Decided on going over the hill today for a late lunch.  Wanted to be near the beach to relax & have a good meal.  Well, that didn't happen today!!!!!

    WELCOME TO CRACK-ITOLA MY FRIENDS!!!!!!

We checked out the menus of the surrounding restaurants & decided on Fog Bank...BIG MISTAKE.  Here's why:

    1.  We walked in & the place stunk of smoke and possibly sewage.  I've seen in the newspaper that Capitola Beach has extremely dirty water & they put warning signs out to not swim in the water so I thought maybe that's what I was smelling???  I kept telling my friend I wanted to leave because the smell alone of the place was really bothering me.  We were STARVING though so he wanted to just stay put & for me to "deal" with it.

    2.  When my friend asked for a Coke, the server replied that they only serve RC Cola.  RC COLA?!?!?!?!  Who still serves RC Cola in a restaurant these days?!?!?!

    3.  There was some freaking weirdo who was dancing around in the middle of the restaurant & there was nooooo music playing!!!!  He would dance a bit, run up to the bar, tap his empty glass, bothered another group of patrons, bothered the staff & kept yelling "Thank God for pain killers!  Thank God for pain killers!!!!"

After watching the crackhead, I told my friend that I *was* leaving, he agreed (thank God).  The guy was bothering everyone but the staff didn't do anything about it :-( . BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH!  One more thing...after we ordered our drinks, I went to use their restroom.  What I thought was really interesting was that their bathroom smelled better than the restaurant itself!  It smelled fresh & there was a nice sea breeze blowing through the small window in there.

WE WILL NEVER GO BACK.  I don't enjoy foul smells when I'm in a restaurant, I don't like the fact that the staff let this guy bother their customers & make a scene!  There's plenty of other restaurants to choose from.  Even from reading the reviews & people stating that the food was good?  I guess I'll never know...

The location rocks! The bar rocks!

Just a fun place to go with friends and have a good time! The food is good, not the best place to eat in Capitola, but does the job.

The drinks are strong, the staff are your best friends, and the view is to die for!

Had a really good time!  Go when there is a live band! So much fun!

A few summers ago, my best friend and I came here almost every night. We had a little drinking bidge and the Fog Bank was our cure. Plus one of our friends at the time worked here.

Unfortunatly that kind of killed the Fog Bank for me. Ocassionaly I will stop in but it's pretty rare.

They always have live music and sometimes that have good bands or people I know playing. They are the only place in capitola to have a cover on the weekends, even if there is no band playing. The messed up part is one of the chick bouncers lets certain people in for free (my boyfriend and his friends) and certain people (me and my girlfriend) had to pay! WTF? Ya we did not go in that night.

For a burger and a beer in Capitola, this is your place. Great lunch grub and bar food.  They have live music in the evening (7 to 10 pm) and are open until 1 or 2 am.

For breakfast.. I'd give them 1 star.  Go to Zelda's.

We were in Capitola reminiscing memories of our engagement and came upon Fog Bank. The menu outside made the place look appealing with an inexpensive menu and selection. We seated ourselves outside on the terrace that overlooks part of the beach....not the nicest part of the beach but you can see the ocean. It smelt like tar outside which was unpleasant but I dealt with it.

Service was friendly although I am a bit annoyed that our waitress failed to see the fly....not once....but twice in my husband's water. He noticed wings in his first glass and asked for a new glass of water. She cordially replaced the water with a new glass....this time with a nice big fly at the bottom. it was obvious it had been there a while and not one that flew in accidentally. Sadly my husband didn't notice this fly until about halfway through his water *yuck*

Food was good and a decent price. I ordered the chicken Monterey sandwich and really enjoyed it. It came with fries that were soggy and tasteless. My husband ordered the Captain's plate that came with a ton of fried fish and shrimp. It wasn't anything fantastic but not bad for $11.99. It also came with fries.

Would I come back? Probably not....the fly in the water really turned me off.

Oh and like Flor said.....yes very cool with the recycled 'to go" box....love it!

Annual Girl's Weekend was a few weeks back.  We stayed within walking distance of the village this year-usually we are in Rio Del Mar. Mind you we are all on the nye side of 30 and the shy side of 50 so you must consider that when reading this review.....

Anyways- I saw 2 amazing bands(Some awesome blues band I can't remember the name of and The BoneCrushers)  and danced my (insert appropriate word here) off!   Misty the bartender was amazing both as awesomely fast drink bringer and scary stalker dude getter rid of 'er.  She reminded us of Linda Hamilton in Terminator and the concensus of the group is SHE IS HOT! (Ok we woke up the next morning thinking why were we saying that about another girl last night?) but  at the time we all thought she was better than Elvis! We talked about whether Misty and the female server were Amazons taking over the city one club at a time....but I digress.
The second night we all felt the same.  All the servers were in top form. Props to Misty for remembering my name on a standing-room-only night! Service was excellent in the restaurant and for drinks in the eve.  (PS. The food was just ok.)
The Fog Bank is an institution for some of us regular Capitola visitors and will remain so as long as the service ROCKs like it did last weekend! Also want to note that the clientele (besides scary stalker dude) is super friendly and you will make alot of friends in the bathroom line.
Oh Yeah-that's the thing....one bathroom for everyone. but the line is in view of the dance floor so it is a great spot for people watching!

Got excellent service from the daytime and nighttime bartender.

Drinks were strong and service was quick and polite. Met some friendly folks in here and had a good time.

No frills service and they only serve breakfast and lunch so the night crowd is there to get hammered.

Had about 10 drinks and left to get pizza.

In a town that caters to tourists with money to burn, the fog bank is as close to a local hangout as your gonna get. I think most tourists pass it by because it's not your typical fancy, beach cabana-looking restaurant. It has a definite lived in feel to it, and that is just fine with me. There aren't many other places in capitola i'd rather grab breakfast, or a phat burger and fries at lunch. The lines are short, the prices right, the staff real and friendly.

Late at night, it's a nice place to grab a drink and check out some great live music.

honestly, don't overlook this local down home comfort bar....then again, maybe you should. I kinda like thinking of it as one of my hidden secrets!

I only go there in the evening, my husband plays there with a number of bands, the Frankie Ramos Band and the Kid Andersen Band.  Parking there is the pits, especially in the summer, I'm going up and down the street for at least 1/2 hour looking for parking.  The staff there are nice, especially Misty, the bartender, she's great!  One drawback is there is only one bathroom and with all the people drinking, the line to it can get long.  Also, always try to leave the Promenade area before 12 midnight, there are always drunks and fights with the cops showing up.  One time we had to wait and hour to back our car up out of our parking space because the cops were blocking the parking area busy with arresting a number of people who were fighting.

Hot weather makes me head towards the water...
Closest water to a San Josean=Santa Cruz.
Recalling my last visit at the beach, I recalled that Capitola had a particular ice cream shop I loved...so I headed south in hopes of cold cream and fish & chips!

Limitations are reduced with a bully in tow...
Zelda's asked me to tie him outside-NO! Besides the construction was really loud and distracting...and someone could steal him.
Fog Bank was the only place with a dog bowl outside and dog hooks .  Never ever would I dare leave him alone, again this is the nervous dog lover in me.  I motioned the waitress with an order for fish and chips to go.  She did not like me very much...
Service lagged, and I felt like I was disturbing her with my request.  I did not get vinegar with my order.  Who forgets vinegar with fish and chips???  Oh well...I was happy she even packed it up for me.  I sat at the Pizza My Heart counter and ate my food.  Bully got some fries and I got my KINDA fill.

Next time...I'll pack lunch and eat on the benches along the beach.
Fish and Chips...I have had better...although these were smaller and more bite sized....

BIG POINTS FOR BEING ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS.  They had a non Styrofoam container.  I loved it.  Way to love our environment...and this is why they get the extra star!

The only time I go to the Fog Bank is on Wednesday nights to sing karaoke.  Okay so I've only been here a few times, but every time it's been pretty hilarious. If you are a karaoke fiend like me you will enjoy the crazy atmosphere. So far I've seen biker chicks, 40 -something women in dresses to tight and too short and guys with suits holding parasols all singing and drinking Bud.

From a karaoke singer's perspective you want to find the right song to fit the atmosphere. In my opinion, The Fog Bank is good for songs like Tone Loc's Funky Cold Medina or Tiffany's I Think We're Alone Now.   The last time I was there I did Kiss by Prince.  People seem to dance on the very small stage right by the door, so picking a song with a beat will be liked be all.  Besides the karaoke, the place is okay.  I wouldn't go here on a regular night, it's not a very interesting place to hang out.

As the other reviewer said. Pretty standard.

I think there was a sign that said that they had 'local music nightly' that is frightening to me.  I can't imagine who this bartender proprietor gets to come and 'jam' most nights but I don't think it would be my cup of tea.

Upshot?  Drinks were good for being right on the beach.

This bar was advertising that it was the "funnest bar in town" or some such nonsense in it's window which is why we couldn't pass it by.
In actuality it was a good sittin and drinkin Saturday afternoon bar. Not the funnest place in the world though we did have a good time making fun of the frat boys ordering blue hawaii's at the other end of the bar. Really, are you sure you're not frat girls?!
