I love going to these trucks, there is always something new to taste. The past couple of times I have been addicted to Cousins Main Lobster Truck. Yes, first off, it is expensive and they serve you small portions. But its Lobster! from Maine! of course its going to be expensive!!!!
The lobster rolls, lobster tacos are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!!

And I'm not related to them in anyway, I didn't even liked lobster that much before. But the first time I tried one of their cold lobster rolls I was hooked. Now I can't wait until they come back on the 7/17 to the Channel Islands Harbor... Check them out.

Now I did try the Grill-Cheese truck, I'm not sure what they were called, I just wanted to try them because of the size of the line, I figured they have to be amazing grilled cheeses. NOPE! Mediocre at best. I can't believe I spent over an hour waiting for one of these things. I don't even eat cheese and I made an exception this time because I thought I was going to try the best grilled cheese sandwich ever!

Sadly it was just a plain white bread with a few types of cheese not even melted all the way. YUCK!

Anyways, they did have tons of other trucks there and it is a definite must go for everyone that loves all types of food.

*** Milestone *** 100th Review!! Woo-Hoo!!

I wanted to review something special for my 100th, and I feel this qualifies. Those of us lucky enough to live in beautiful, tranquil, rural (and yes, kind of boring) Ventura County can find it challenging to get to the great Los Angeles food trucks at their usual Valley, Downtown, OC, and IE haunts. KUDOS to Oxnard for bringing them up here on the 1st Thursday of every month!

Located in the lovely historic downtown area of Oxnard with plenty of free parking, this is a monthly event that I will make every effort to attend. Bonus - today it was beautifully decorated for the holidays.

Ludo Truck - 4.5 Stars: Fried chicken strips and french fries - Delish! Homemade chipotle mayo YUMMY. A tad overpriced. 3 large strips = $8.25; Fries = $2.50. We bought this meal for my young son, and when I asked him what he'd give it on a scale of 1 to 10, he said 10 and a half. Personally, I thought it was a bit salty, but I'm very comfortable giving it a 4.5.

Meat & Potatoes Truck - 4.5 stars: Sandwiches made with tomatoes, Italian coleslaw, french fries, provolone cheese, and choice of meat on fresh Italian (I think?) bread. We had the chicken and veggieburger. Both very good. I would definitely wait in line for this food again. http://meetnpotatoestruc…

Jogasaki Burrito Truck - 4.5 stars: Spicy salmon burrito (5 stars); salmon ceviche taco (5 stars); Spicy tuna tempura (4 stars). I would MOST DEFINITELY hit this truck again. The salmon burrito was packed with fresh raw salmon, wrapped in a delicious, thin soy paper with toasted sesame seeds, and it was spicy enough for me - and I like it HOT!

Sweet Arleens - 4 stars: My son got a chocolate marshmallow cupcake. He ate it so fast I barely got to sneak a tiny bite. It was good. He must have really liked it. I thought it was a bit expensive at $4, but I am new to the whole gourmet cupcake craze - so maybe that's typical?

There were lots of trucks that we didn't have time/cash/tummy-room for. I hope I can make it to this event again soon.

Ok, the event has gotten better. Not 5-star better, but better.

The cupcake truck isn't worth mentioning - same truck, same (i'm assuming, I didn't waste my $4) dense cupcakes. I wish other dessert places would attend, I'd love to indulge in dessert at this event. I adore cupcakes, so even a rival cupcakery would be cool. I just honestly can't stand Sweet Arlen's cupcakes. They get a 1-star in my book.

But the event itself has evened out, it seems. I was able to finally try Don Chow's truck - the wait was only an hour this time (! eek, I know, but last 2 times I gave up) and the food was really good. His portions were alot more generous than the trucks I tried last month.

The star of the night for me was the Grill Em All truck, though. The best darn burgers ever. I loved my burger. My mom loved hers. I would eat there again, in fact, if the Grill Em All truck is going to be there in December, I WILL eat there again!
The O Truck from Santa Barbara was there with their to-die-for french fries again too, and I loved those.

So what made this a 4-star and not a 5-star event? Well, honestly, as long as they do that lame, spend $10 for a totally useless wristband, I won't give them 5 stars. On top of that, there were fewer trucks this time. I think they had some no-shows, because I saw at least one space marked out for a truck and no truck was there. More dessert trucks would be nice, or trucks that do both. What about the Buttermilk Truck, for example? I knw they do sweet and savory. There are ice cream trucks out there too, I've seen them at Santa Anita.
But seriously, reconsider that $10 VIP thing. Its so wrong, and just smacks of taking advantage of the public. Come on, Oxnard, aren't you better than that?

More trucks and a repeat of the last event. Not enough food, again. Lame.

For those that like to think outside of the munch box, this is a great event and a chance to get to know some of your neighbors! It's not your typical ho hum boring evening waiting at the table!
If you're allergic to fun, new ideas and great food, I'd suggest throwing a frozen dinner in the oven and watching Simpson reruns and staying home so the rest of us can be that much closer to the front of the line :)
