This place doesn't look like much from the street but it's a fun time! The atmosphere is fun and laid back. Â The beef potato skins were delicious! And of course the beer is good too! :-) Â We had a large group so we sat a a big table and our server was on top of things... she came around often and was there to get us what we needed before we had to look for her to ask. Â Prices seemed to be very reasonable. Â We were there on a Saturday night and they had live music which was okay. Â If you are looking for a fun night out with friends, you should give this place a shot!
Review Source:My friends and I come here every year after the Gasparilla Run to quench our thirst along with many others with Guinness, Irish car bombs, and fish & chips. As always everything is yummy. We sit at the outside bar, the bartender outside is awesome. Great place overall and definitely the best Irish bar overall.
Review Source:Went to Four Green Fields based on Yelp's recommendations after spending the morning and most of the afternoon at Hunahpu's Day at Cigar City Brewing. Â We went around 3 in the afternoon on Saturday, so it was pretty quiet. Â Maybe 3-4 other tables eating while we were in.
I didn't drink beer during my visit, so I can't comment on the pour(s).
Despite the lack of patrons, it took our server 15 minutes to approach and ask what we wanted to drink. Â Getting a refill was like pulling teeth.
My burger was overdone and had to be sent back because of a food allergy that was ignored.
Lastly, the restrooms were VILE. Â It was 3 in the afternoon- I am a bit confused as to how they could have been as bad as they were unless they were not cleaned after close Friday evening.
I will not be returning.
Enter Four Green Fields, an authentic and Tampa famed thatched roof tavern where only the pros are welcome. Â Just kidding. Â Wonderful Irish hospitality is evident the second one walks into this tiny cottage of good beer, good people and great food. Â Established in 1992, these guys made their mark when the city's Guinness sales increased by 87% upon the pub's opening. Â Better yet, an Irish publication recently named them one of the top 10 Irish pubs in the world...yes, in the whole wide world.
My favorite Fare at Four Green Fields?  Well, I could go on and on.  The Broiled Salmon Melt simply puts salmon in a league of its own.  The Sheppard's Pie is flawless with flavorful whipped potatoes covering a delightfully moist and rich veggie and meat mixture.  Delectable Fish n Chips...they've got those too.  A light batter encasing fresh, mild, white filets of fish have nearly made me drool.
An old college watering hole, this place still holds it's charm. Always see the old Irish men discussing religion and politics, stoned college kids slapping shirt pockets looking for misplaced one-hitters, and the folks in between trying to make sense of it all. Great when live music is present, you'd be surprised how many words to an old Irish singalong you still remember when they're up there playing the bones to an old tune. There's an expansive patio for smokers, and the goat cheese points are still well accompanied by an Irish car bomb!
Review Source:Unassuming and always a good time. This place is especially nice on a nice night with their two decks. Inside is always bustling and the bartenders are always friendly and do their best to get to everyone. The food is good and the live Irish folk music is the real deal. Great place to start, and finish the night, if you're looking for a casual place to relax.
Review Source:If you've read my reviews, you know how I feel about Irish pubs. Â Eager to find an Irish pub that I will actually like, my chica insists on dragging me to every so-called Irish shithole bar in town. Â I guess because I'm of irish decent, I need to like these places, but they all pretty much suck, IMHO. Â Well, except for this one! Â
I've driven past this place thousands of times, I suppose. Â I can remember when the outside was painted like a massive Irish flag in the 90's. Â I never once considered stopping in for a drink. Â Lo and behold, where did I end up last night? Â Four Green Fields. Â This place felt like home... Like I had been there before, and like the bartender knew my life story. Â We only stayed long enough for one drink (had places to be), but I can't wait to get back for some more brew, friendly people, Irish tunes and political banter at the surrounding tables.
If you're interested in a relaxed evening without pretense, Four Green Fields is a good option. This isn't a strip mall Irish pub where they only Irish thing you'll find is Guinness on tap. The live music is great, outdoor seating on a nice Tampa evening is always enjoyable, too. Sláinte!
Review Source:We enjoy going to Four Green Fields, the service is always good and we enjoy the casual atmosphere.
There is an outdoor seating area and bar which is great when the weather is nice.
They have music pretty often and the prices are decent.
We tried their regular reuben and their turkey reuben. The regular reuben was good but a tad bit dry. The turkey reuben was great. The fries that came along with it were good but unsalted.
Overall. a great place to go and have drinks and food. We will be returning their often.
My favorite Irish pub in Tampa. The Guinness is always poured just right the fish and chips are fantastic. The corned beef Reuben is quite tasty with sauerkraut and 1000 island dressing comes with fries that I always put malt vinegar on. Can get really crowded in there at times especially on Saint Patrick's Day. All I have left to say is I'll see you there with a pint in hand.
Review Source:I can't speak about the food as I did not try any. Â I can talk about the atmosphere which is just perfect. Â They have no TVs in the establishment and the entire focus of the place is to allow people to mingle and talk. Â It is set up to facilitate talking and to form a sense of community. Â I loved the thatched room concept too. Â I suggest going to this place if you want to hang out with friends and have a good time. Â
Maybe next time I will try the food and then can give an update.
This is a fun, fun place! Â Been here a handful of times and always enjoyed the live music, inside and outside options and the location.
The cider could be more than just Magner's which is an Irish cider, so I guess it makes it more authentic, but wish they'd offer Strongbow (although it is English - the rival)...
I rather like their Irish coffee, especially when it's chilly outside and the bartenders are on the ball.
I'd have to give this a 4 star just because they could use to spruce up the place, when it's really crazy busy it's hard to get a drink at the bar and parking is really difficult. Â Although I haven't eaten here, I understand the food's pretty good, but I'm not yet brave enough to try it...
The best irish pub in the Tampa Bay area, in my opinion. Â I have spent many a night in this establishment singing alohg to the Irish drinking songs while enjoying a snakebite. Â This is a great place to go with a group as crowd participation is encouraged. Â Pat, the irish folk singer, is always a ton of fun. Â The atmosphere can't be beat and there is actually an authentic thatched roof.
You have the option of sitting at the bar or having a waitress, which are typically pretty prompt, depending on how busy they are. Â I've only had food in here once (I ordered a beef stew) and it was very traditional irish. Â I really have nothing bad to say about Four Green Fields and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good time in an Irish atmosphere!
Ok... I've given 5 stars to a few places already... remember... I'm the Guinness Guy; All I care about is the quality of the pint that they serve. This place is run by an all Irish staff. Their main thing is Guinness. When they opened, sales of the Black Nectar of the Gods increased by 87% in the Tampa area.
I sat there and repeatedly tested their pouring abilities and both gentlemen serving were exemplary. The fact that they laughed at my dirty Irish jokes and didn't make fun of my Simpsons cartoon quality accent merely endeared the place to me all the more.
I will go back here. If you're looking for an experience to match your pint of Guinness, go to the Four Green Fields. (They also gave me a miniature Guinness glass.. Bribes do not in any way affect my objectivity when it comes to writing a review... but I accept them nonetheless).
I usually go to Four Green Fields for the run club on Tuesday nights but made it a lunch stop last week. My co-workers and I were pleasantly surprised at how great our food was. Nothing fancy but the sanwiches were fresh and the fries were hot and crispy. It's a nice break from the regular haunts we hit in South Tampa. The best part of all was that it wasn't crowded and we were in and out within the hour.
Review Source:You can't go to an Irish Pub and not order fish n chips! Â They are tasty here! Â The soups are also very good! Â The onion rings are HUGE. Â They also have a large variety of beers. Â
We were here around 6pm on a weeknight. Â The place was packed with people. Â The bar area is very large but there is also an abundance of tables to sit at. Â
When standing at the front outside, you notice the thatched roof and a few tables on the deck. Â I thought the outdoor seating was less than desirable, that is until I was leaving and drove past the back side. Â A HUGE outdoor area that is fenced in. Â I can imagine the fun that is had, on that patio!
I've never been to Ireland, but from what I understand their pubs are friendly, warm, and rustic, without any typical American sports bar BS. Four Green Fields is the most authentic Irish pub in Tampa Bay. The thatch roof says it all!
I only had beers, so I can't comment on the food. But the bartenders are super-friendly, down-to-earth, regular people. I ordered a Black Velvet, and they knew that was Guinness and Cider. That speaks volumes.
This place is not trendy. You won't find 18 TVs, trivia, dance music, or people wearing fedoras with their boxer shorts hanging out. It aint that kind of place. Stick to Ybor if you want to see that. This place is for everyday people who like good beer, good friends, and an honest, traditional pub.
For what Four Green Fields is trying to be, it is 5 stars. It's not for everyone, but I think that's what they want!
This may make me a crap traveler (it's Florida, whatever) but when a co-worker and I were looking for dinner we somehow ended up in an Irish pub. (Too many years living in Boston?)
Tampa + Irish pub seem a bit incongruous, but I was pleased with this place. From the outside it looks a bit like a cottage, with a thatched roof and small windows. Â It looks as though there is outdoor seating, which I didn't get to partake in because of the rain, though the area is not quite picturesque. Inside, the service is friendly and the food is your standard Irish pub fare. I scarfed down a corned beef sandwich with chips and a Guinness or two, feeling right at home. The high top tables are decorated with inlaid maps of Ireland - listing clans geographically. Pretty cool if you have an affinity for maps like me or if you just need a conversation starter/filler.
Would I go back next time I'm in town? Certainly.
Oh Four Green Fields, how I miss you.
I have so many amazing memories attached to this place. I love that they don't have TVs. Their live entertainment(like Pat) are amazing. The staff are great, and boy are they quick when the place is packed. Even the food is good. Â Its not fancy but come on, would you really want fancy to be a word you'd use to describe an Irish bar? Of course you wouldn't! St. Patty's Day is out of control. Â
I've been to many Irish bars since leaving Tampa, and none stack up to this place!
Ah....I remember my first pint.
It was at the Four Green Fields, on Valentine's day of my junior year in college. A very cute, very Irish boy invited me out for a casual night of drinking and intriguing conversation. Needless to say, it had a very lasting impression on me, and I continue to frequent this magical pub.
If you're interested in grinding with strangers, watching the football game, or shouting across the table over awkward techno music, the Fields is not for you. The Fields is a sacred pub where friends are made and stories are shared. The pub's authenticity (thatch roof, Irish bartenders) makes you feel as if you've been transported to Dublin.
One of the best things about the Fields is the live music on Friday and Saturday. A native of county Kerry performs Irish jigs and drinking songs, and throws in some American classics.
If you live in the Tampa bay area, and you haven't visited Four Green Fields, you're truly missing out.
We were meeting some friends in Tampa and since neither group knew the area it was up to me and my yelp prowess to find a decent meeting spot. Â I started searching and ran into four green fields. Their website is nonfunctional, but based on pictures and yelp reviews I figured we should give this place a shot.
First off parking is ample in this huge lot next to a blue house and private school. The lot is specifically for customers, is well illuminated, and this doesn't seem to be a creepy part of downtown.
I think what attracted me to FGF was the thatched roof which reminded me of the houses I had seen on my trip to Adare, Ireland. Â From the outside this place looks small, but the space inside is huge. Tons of high tops, small tables and barstools.
The crowd on a chilly Saturday was older late twenties to early sixties..which surprised me considering the pub's proximity to the University of Tampa.
As for the food and drink both were excellent. Â Their Guinness pour was authentic, and the fish and chips were great. The batter on the fish was flavorful and fluffy, the tarter sauce was even great as it had some mustard or curry mixed in. Â I was not that wowed by their chips, but they weren't bad either. The fish and chips were also accompanied by either soup or salad. Â I chose the salad, while the hubs chose this amazing curry bean soup...wow! Â And all that for only 11 dollars and some change. Â
Other items on their menu were Irish stews, Â a good looking cheddar burger, turkey sandwich, Â a Reuben, Â and some other entrees. Â I think their most expensive item was a 13 dollar sauteed salmon. Â Overall, if I'm back in Tampa anytime soon, I will definitely return to four green fields.
Why 4 stars? Â Because it looks like a dive bar that wouldn't serve good food. Â But it's actually a dive bar that serves good food.
 ---  ---  ---
It's THE Irish Pub of Tampa. Â If that's what you're looking for, this is where you need to be. Â The thatched roof alone makes it an appealing choice when debating where to grab some lunch and/or a Guinness. Â
In my opinion, Wednesday is the best day to go for lunch. Â The special is a roast beef sandwich that comes with horse radish and onion ring shavings. Â It's the bees knees. Â
The bees...ummm...calves on the other hand, is a part of the regular menu. Â I've never had a better Corned Beef Reuben than I had at Four Green Fields. Â I find them to usually be a bit dry for my tastes, but that was not the case with this piece of heaven.
I lived in Tampa for 5 years before discovering this gem of an establishment. Â It's easy to drive right past, but don't make the same mistake I did.
As an Orlando resident, I do not have a chance to visit Tampa as often as I like, but when I do, Four Green Fields is always on the list.
Adorned with a traditional thached roof (how does that make it through Florida summer storms), this bar is an open concept with dark wood bar and floors. Along the walls are pictures, poems, newspaper articles and various other items from Ireland. Perfect fodder if your companions are less than engaging or if you need some conversation topics. There is also a patio on the front and an outside area in the back if you want to have a beverage al fresco. They also bring in bands and live entertainment to amp up the fun.
This is an Irish pub, serving Irish Beer, whiskey and some Irish fare. Never had a bad drink from this place. My friends also say the food is good as well. Â If you are looking for an Irish pub to have a drink and to chat someone up, this is the place.
Four Green Fields offers great atmosphere, live Irish music, and a nice selection of draft beers. Â You can find great imported beers on tap such as Hacker-Pschorr, Guinness, Killians, Kilkenny, and Carlsberg. Â The thatched roof and decor makes me feel like I stumbled into a local pub along the emerald rolling hills of Ireland.
Besides your typical bar food the menu offers all of your favorite Irish dishes such as Irish Stew, Dublin Fish and Chips, Corned Beef and Cabbage, and Shepherd's Pie. Â Prices are inexpensive, most dishes run between $10-$15.
Why only 4 stars? Â The ladies bathroom was gross... a bit dirty with leaky plumbing and the lock didn't seem very secure. Â I imagine the line is horrible when the bar gets busy since there is only one toilet.
Well deserved, high ratings. This is best in the class of Irish pubs in my rankings too. Â Â A Tampa institution close to downtown, as opposed to the SoHo Irish bar wannabe's, and the authenticity just starts with the Thatched roof. Â This pub is staffed by Irish publicans, who undoubtedly all have their green cards, tinted by a Magic Marker. Â The Guinness, Harp, Bass and other draft pints are fresh & well poured.
Interior decor attests to the rich history and deep roots of this place....visited by Sinead O'Connor,  Jerry Adams, many Irish/Kelt bands, IRA fundraisers (not to be confused with domestic Re-publicans)... and just waiting for the first Irish Pope.  Meanwhile they are frequented by the running club on Tuesdays (best for pedestrians to avoid),  business honchos, partially owned  (previously?) by current US Attorney, the Sacred Heart St. Vincent de Paul "Vinnies,' cops, firefighters, soccer/rugby fans, lots of local regulars and a few tourists.  Not a college haunt.  Nice that they have replaced the tattered wicker-back chairs with some solid ones that should last another 30 years..
The pub grub menu offered here are solid Irish standards, Shepherd's Pie, potato/leek soup, fish and chips and a great smoked salmon spread served nicely with chopped onions, capers & toast points (my recurring order). Â Dense Irish bread is available upon request. Occasional evening entertainment, maintaining the Irish mood, or canned Irish music. Â It is permitted to cry in your beer over the lamented loss of the Ulster Counties, sundering one of the 4 Green Fields that are the entirety of Ireland. (26 + 6 = 1 Â right?)
Ahhh Four Green Fields. How I miss being able to walk to you and stumble home.
It all started many years ago. I worked in the office building next door (which I think is now a school?!). I was a young lass, putting myself thru school at The University of Tampa. One day, I notice the facde of the building changing. Each and every day, I would watch out of my window and see the guys putting on the real thatched roof.
This place became my stomping grounds for many years. Lunches, Happy Hours, Meetings, escaping the office and watching Footie Games.
Fast forward 15 years and it still remains the same as it did when I first fell in love.
A perfect Guinness, incredible pub food, real hooligans at times, authentic IRA memorabilia on the wall, lively Irish music ( I once saw flipping Sinead O'Conner play there for like 10 bux?!!!), stiff drinks and a lively group of regulars.
Four Green Fields will always hold a wonderful place in my heart and I visit every chance I can.
There are bars, and then there are institutions that help to define a city which happen to serve alcohol. The Fields for sure qualifies as the latter.
It's nothing much to look at from a distance. I went in today at just after 3pm, and the drink special was... well, you're allowed to order whatever you'd like. There are hurling, gaelic football, association football, and rugby jerseys hanging over the bar, but that's about the extent of the theme in what is definitely not a sports bar. But what makes this place such a part of the fabric of the city is the atmosphere, and the diversity people that pop in for a Guiness or some other libation. It's as good a cross-section of Tampa as you'll see anywhere.
I can't speak to the food, though I've heard it's quite good. But Four Green Fields could be dropped in the middle of Dublin, and the only thing out of place would be the shorts on the customers. It's simple, but that simplicity is what makes it an institution. And Tampa is a better city for it's presence.
A real tavern with an Irish theme, Four Green Fields is a South Tampa stand out. Though crowded at times, it comes nowhere near the often standing-room-only mess of other area "Irish Bars" like MacDinton's, and The Dubliner. A little bit off the beaten path, you're going to have a good time here getting blitzed and talking to the fellow drunks on the back patio.
The local douche bag and Jersey Shore population doesn't frequent FGF. You won't hear any house or club music here. In fact, you're more likely to enjoy a live band playing old traditional Irish music, hosting a sing along of "Living Next Door to Alice" or a random U2 cover that is far more jovial and enjoyable than the original.
The Guiness is flowing, and the Jameson is pouring. Catch a cab or hoof it down to this place, and you will have a great time.
For a real night-ruiner, drink four Irish Car Bombs and enjoy your hangover the next day!
One of my Tampa favorites. Â Unmatchable atmosphere... it's pretty cool they employ only authentic people straight from Ireland (I believe that's the case as I've read it a few places and all the bartenders and severs I've heard had extremely thick accents).
The fish and chips are outstanding, so is the Shepherd's pie and the smoked salmon app (as they should be at an authentic Irish pub like this).
Live music on Friday night is cool... good place to take friends in from out of town for a unique experience. Â Obviously, this is also a great place to spend St. Patty's Day. Â Very crowded, but a lot of fun.
They also have a 5k running club... who doesn't want to grab a Guinness right after a few miles on Bayshore?
I left my sobriety and my credit card at the Four Green Fields and I'd do it again.
I was out in Tampa a few months ago for a convention. It was by far and away the best time I had over that long weekend. Great bartenders, great food, great atmosphere. If I'm every back on this side of the states, I'll definitely be swinging in for a snakebite.
