There is just nothing great about this place. Â Its a tiny restaurant with no atmosphere. Â The food is "meh", take it or leave it. Â Its mostly fried stuff. Â The drinks are okay, but after a couple beers you feel like you're no longer welcome. Â Kind of like drinking at my grandmother's house. Â Not fun! Â
There are better places to go in Barrington. Â Dante's is across the street and is a far better choice.
Super tiny place which is not a bad thing I guess.
Asked if the food was local but the bartender who stated "I don't know, I just tend the bar, my father owns the place", she then shrugged her shoulders said I don't know. Â I just felt pushed out toward closing time 40 from closure.
Not a fan, the drinks were pretty good. Â Thought being the owners daughter wasn't a good enough excuse to not to know where the food is coming from, My reasoning for this, is to support local food businesses.
Second visit here. First was ok. Thought I'd give it a second chance as the first impression wasn't overly great or horrible.
It was about 3pm and the place was nearly empty which is normal for this time of day. We were greeted promptly. I had my sleeping son in a stroller. The waitress seemed slightly confused as to what to do with us for a moment, before telling us she was going to go clean off a table. I'm thinking to myself, with the amount of business going on in there, why was it necessary to clean a table? Should that not have been done immediately after the last person left? I didn't see anyone leaving the pub upon our arrival or at any time in the 5 minutes before we were seated...
The dining room while clean was temperature wise slightly chilly and so was the decor. A bit barren, sterile, not very comforting and not relaxing or enjoyable to be in.
I had the buffalo chicken sandwich fried. It tasted good for what it was. Chicken was hot and moist, buffalo sauce was nice, blue cheese dressing tasted good. The bun was a bit stale and crumbly would be my only complaint with my sandwich.
My son had the fried haddock sandwich. He is the fried haddock sandwich aficionado. Â The Portsmouth Brewery sets the standard according to him. He said the haddock didn't taste fresh, the batter was too thin and he didn't like the stale bun either. The fries portion on all sandwiches was very small and all our fries were cold when the food arrived. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich which came on a piece of split baguette. He said his sandwich tasted nice, nothing to write home about and his plate was missing pickles.
The food came out quickly as one would expect for the business volume. However, our waitress didn't come back to check on us until we were over halfway finished our meals.
I'd say service was mediocre at best. She was very friendly though which can make up for inexperience, IF and I state IF the food, value for dollar and atmosphere are enough to make up for it.
All in all, dinner for 3 fountain drinks and 3 sandwiches came to $40 with tip. Not anywhere near what I'd consider value for dollar.
I understand rising food costs. I work in food service. If you must raise prices, your quality must reflect the increase. This food did not reflect the high prices being charged.
Twice was enough for us.
My husband suggested we go here after he went and liked it.  We brought our 9 month-old daughter.  I got a dinner plate with grilled chicken with  bacon and a mustard sauce.  It was a little dry and need a touch more sauce, but it was pretty good.  I was impressed that the vegetables on the side were good--not overcooked and that usually will happen in the average restaurant when you have a side vegetable dish consisting of carrots, broccoli and zucchini (all with quite different cooking times).  The garlic mashed potatoes were really dry and they tasted boxed. Â
My husband got a fish sandwich. Â The roll was really nice and the fish was pretty good too. Â They had a real nice Long Trail pumpkin beer and I had coffee (it was average). Â
The staff was really friendly and accommodating and the place was clean. Â I would return and try a few other things on the menu.
I want so bad to give this place 4 stars...I have in the past, about a month ago....but....I just can't... I have been in here a number of times over the past several months, and for me, it seems to be getting worse. Â Especially on my last two visits which were both in September of this year.
Let me start by saying, I really, really love the wings here! Â My son loves the wings too. Â In fact, all the food and even the ice cream I have had here is good... so even though I am only giving it 2 stars, we will still probably eat here on occasion. Â Also, we don't have a ton of choices in Barrington and this is really, really close to my house.
But, unfortunately, they have some problems here, and it seemed to get worse on my last visit. Â First and foremost, the water here is horrible! Â It tastes like iron. Â They supposedly put on a filter at some point, but even the waitresses will tell you that it doesn't taste any better. Â What really gets me about the water issue is that even the soda water tastes like iron! I had to buy bottled water. Â Why on earth should I be required to buy bottled water at a restaurant to get a decent drink?
On my previous visit, they ran out of wings just before we arrived. Â What a bummer! Â So the waitress, who was trying to be helpful suggested the boneless wings. Â Unfortunately, we really didn't like the boneless buffalo tenders ... my daughter likes them plain, but for my son and I who prefer buffalo, they just didn't measure up! Â The only shining light of that visit was the fact that she came back and told me that they had a total of 5 wings left. Â Oooh.. I'll take them..... so on my bill, they charged me individually for 5 wings. Â Great! Â Unfortunately the boneless ones weren't great... but we made it.
On the next visit however... they had wings... and my son wanted just a few wings... so I asked, can we just get like 4 wings? Â The very nice and very good waitress said, probably, let me check... then she came back and said no.. the owner said you can only get 8 or 12.. Well my son wanted to get a whole kids meal and then just add like 4 wings. Â They were able to charge me for 5 wings just the week before, but now they couldn't charge me for them individually.
Because of the proximity of this place, and because of how good the food is  we will likely continue to come here, but I'm really thinking that when I get a hankering for their wings, I'll just get them as take out so I can drink my own water.
My second time here tonight and I'm starting to really dig this place.
For what their menu is, I think the food has been spot on... and I don't know where they get their sandwich rolls but they are really fresh and atypical of what you normally get elsewhere..
The staff on both occasions have been wicked friendly and very attentive... even taking the time to happily  answer my preschooler's 20 questions. Service time has been very comparable to any other typical restaurant.
They do have a kids menu, and they gave my daughter crayons without asking to color her placemat.
I highly recommend the Frank Jones IPA.
Oh, and they have an Annabelle's ice cream walk up window too... so now your Portsmouth friends has one less thing to hold over your head. In fact you can brag to them that you were able to find parking to get it.
We had lunch here last week and thought it was very good. Â We sat outside and had excellent service as well. Â We were warmly greeted and made to feel very welcome. Â My husband had a steak tip sandwich that he loved and I had a fried fish sandwich that was also, excellent. Â Perfect, lightly fried fish. Â I also ordered the onion rings based on our servers suggestion and I am glad I did. Â They were the best onion rings I've ever had. Â Very fresh food and pleasant ambiance. Â I thought the prices were fair considering the quality of the food. Â We will definitely be back! Â
A breath of fresh air for Barrington.
no smoking deck for smokers thinking they can sit outside and smoke. wasnt very busy but took a tad longer to get our drinks then I thought it should have. nice staf.f my husband got a lobster roll and was good not fabulous for paying $ 14... I did have the seared scallops, apache fresh mozzarella, tomato salad with balsamic reduction drizzled on it...FABULOUS! cooked perfect.
Review Source:This was our first time here and their third or fourth week open for business. Â
I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, fried or grilled option, I chose fried. Â It came with fries and a supposed pickle from Calef's Country Store. The pickle was missing...as was my husbands. Â The sandwich was okay, not exactly what I was expecting. It was chicken fingers dunked in hot sauce with bleu cheese on a bun with tomato and lettuce (which was brown on the edges). Eh..I don't think I'd get it again.
My husband ordered the Angus Burger Club with fries, medium well. Â It came out medium to medium rare. He's not one to complain, but I mentioned something to the waitress when she came over to ask. By that time he had eaten most of it so there was no point in fixing it. He said it was okay..he's really not a fan of even somewhat bloody meat.
It looks as if sandwiches are served on Chinet paper plates, but we saw other diners having actual dinners on real plates. Â The cups were paper too and somewhat flimsy for the drinks.
So in the end the waitress got the burger taken off the bill, a nice surprise indeed.
The atmosphere is nice, a bit noisy though due to the small space the seating is in. They also have a full bar on the opposite side.
We'll most likely try it again in a month or more.
