I caution you to stick to the burgers. There is a grill behind the bar and you can see the bar tender? Who is also a cook? hand forming each burger and cooking it in full view of the open bar.. On a good day burgers are big and juicy cooked to your  liking with a  pile of fries and a pickle. My family and I spend summers at the shore and there is a vast array of restaurants we could chose from,,, so was very disappointed to say the least when The "broiled, shrimp, scallop and flounder entree" I ordered, ( which was on the chalk board as a special) arrived smelling so rank that the couple at the next table even commented. Besides that, the scallops were half raw and there was a lot of sand. Did I say  the flounder  smelled SO  SO BAD? and looked like it had been sitting uncovered on the plate in that rolled position for a very long time and dried out before they got  around to broiling it.It was so foul it was not edible. After tasting the second scallop I could not take another bite and lost my appetite. How dare they serve  something so foul??,  When mentioned to the waitress she said it was the first she ever  heard of it and said she would tell the cook, but seemed unfazed. I could not take another bite and was sorry I even got the 2scallops down. We payed  our bill and upon rising from our seats the couple at the next table wished me luck in hoping I wouldn't  be sick. The chicken francaise my husband ordered  was extremely salty and the linguini it rested upon was so greasy my 5 year old daughter who loves pasta refused to eat it.
Review Source:Woman who sat us was cold/rude. Our server, however, was the complete opposite.
We sat next to a wall and I kept getting a nose full of musty odor; ew.
We both ordered the hot dog. It had a nicely grilled bun, hot dog cooked well and if you're a fan of Schickhaus then the dog is good. I'm not a big fan of that brand as I find it bland but that's not the restaurant's fault.
Onion rings were wayyyy over-fried.
$3 for a soda, even with a free refill is a ripoff.
Overall, a lackluster experience.
Frankie's is a cool place. Fun atmosphere and interior has a nice vibe as well. Â Food is almost always good, if not better. Rated it 3 stars and not higher due to service. Have dined here many times and it can be a bit of a crap shoot of whether you have a good server or a not so good server. Â I have waited in access of 10 minutes before I've even been greeted, and waited over an hour for a fairly simple menu item. It may seem obvious, but far more likely if they are busy. Overall, good food, good portions and if you are seated with a good server a 4-star experience.
Review Source:This is my favorite beachtown pub (and I have been to a lot of them). The food from the kitchen is good but the burgers made at the bar are in the top three of anywhere I have been between NYC and Philly. Try the grilled chicken at the bar too. Frankie's always has great beers on tap.
Review Source:Food - very solid. They make their own salad dressing here, so order a side salad with your meal. My fave is honey mustard. Huge selection of food. My favorite entree is the open faced filet mignon on an English muffin. DELISH!!
Service - not so good. It's consistently slow at the tables. I've been here numerous times and it's just plain slow... Solution... Eat at the bar!
Went to frankies with my family and had a bad experience. First love the atmosphere with the big bar and brick walls. Food portions are big. Our waitress was very friendly with great service. Now the constructive feedback...The old male host who showed us our table was very cold and rude to us. Our appetizers and burgers were overcooked and burnt. This place use to be real good a few years ago...but is slowly going down hill..would we go back ....no
Review Source:This is our go to place when we go down the shore. Â Great bar food with nice portions. Â It is family friendly or to go with friends or couples to hang out at the bar and watch a game. Â I really have nothing bad to say about the place, it's an awesome way to start our evening down the shore! Â I highly recommend trying it!
Review Source:This place was recommended by the locals working in a nearby supermarket. It looks like a typical dark bar but we pleasantly surprised to get fresh, homemade, top  quality food. The nachos were superb, the shrimp cocktail was fresh and tasty, and the homemade chicken tenders never saw a freezer! They were plump, seasoned to perfection-chucks of tender white breast meat that have been carefully trimmed.  Our drinks (margarita, dreamsicale...made with fresh fruit and ice cream, and mojito) were fresh and expertly made! I can see why this place is popular with the locals! The staff was also super friendly and there was free parking across the street. Skip the fist pumpers at Jenks and hang here for cheaper/better drinks and a more diverse crowd
Review Source:Frankie's has a wonderful environment, it's like any other bar and grill, not the quietest. The service was nice, and the servings were huge! I had a bacon cheeseburger that was 10 oz. Â The only reason it is not a 5 star place is because the food took too long to come out to our table. Â Also, their is food for everyone there!
Review Source:Just had dinner with 3 girlfriends at Frankie's. We agree:It's just mediocre and we won't be going out of our way to go back. Besides the forgettable food, the service was terrible. Our waitress was very inattentive - never came back to see how the food was and if she had I would have told her: not great. Our beverage glasses were dry for most of the meal until we waved her over for a refill. In sum: meh.
Review Source:When reading the bad reviews, I wonder just who would order the things they ordered? Â Better yet, why are they even on the menu??? Â Come on, Frankie's... Get the fried zucchini appetizer. Â ALWAYS good. Â Not greasy, and the sauce is totally amazing. Â Spinach salad with the mustard? Dressing. Â They make their dressings in house. Â Grilled chicken skewers, I sub them buffalo style with blue cheese...instead of the peanut sauce which sucks. Â Burgers are always good. Â Open faced sandwiches are good, martinis are icy, frosty, and generous. Â Atmosphere is almost always lively, locals flock here after work.
Review Source:This I am sure would be a fantastic place to hang out and get SCHNOCKERD,  however  this review does NOT cover that type of experience as I was here on a business trip and that would not have been kosher. This trip was to check out the food as there are definately better places to go in the area. Don't get the chili dog as the chili is not tasty and really, really bland..i've had better out of a can. The clam chowder was good and I would get it again. Other than that, I had a beer, and you cant go wrong with that. Maybe next go around It would be a more interesting review...or not, depends on how MUCH fun I would have...
Review Source:USED TO BE AWESOME.
In the last 3-4 years this place went way downhill.
their chili is embarrassing. it used to be the best, now its just meat, water, and tabasco sauce. and i have experienced this on more than 5 occasions. its just dreadful.
frankies used to be my all time favorite restaurant, ive been going there for the last 15 years. i THINK there might be new owners or a new chef or something, because the quality went way down. even their shrimp cocktail got worse, their shrimp cocktail used to be so incredibly awesome, firm, giant, fresh shrimp, now their very small, and always mushy and fishy smelling and tasting.
Their burgers are very large with a lot of meat, but oh so lean. the meat is soo dry and tasteless yet the burger oozes out blood when you bite into them. Theyre not at all fatty hence there is no taste to the meat.
The wait staff is average to good. i cant complain about the wait staff, but nor did they ever knock my socks off =Average.
I miss the old Frankies.
*cry*
I love the interior and exterior of this building. Very Tudor. When you sit down in the low-ceilinged, brick-walled, large-arched window, and fireplace setting you expect to see scullery maids. What you will see is 14 TV's! No skimping here!
It has a cozy, homey feel to it and the mix  is (well, during the off-season) is locals, young professionals, and general townsfolk. I do like a nice community vibe when patrons know other patrons and greet accordingly so. Do you want to order pasta from here? Probably not, but you can't beat the bar food!
One of the perks is that they have a grill behind the bar at all times and they make some mean doggies and  burgers. I give extra props because I tended bar  in college and a little after and if you told me I had to serve food, make drinks, AND grill ,people would have had hot dogs thrown at their head. They manage it quite nicely, though. TONS of seafood options and I know it's fresh because I'm probably sitting next to the fisherman.
Almost seven dollars for a glass of house white (yeeeesh) but there are plenty of reasonably priced beers on tap. Thank you, Happy Hour!
Frankie's is a shore tradition, you come because of that. Each season of each year brings a different and great experience that is memorable. Sure the food is good and service is good but this is the kind of place that is more about what you bring than what they serve. Been going for about 20 years I think.
Review Source:What the F was I doing in point pleasant beach when its 35 degrees outside and the boardwalk is closed? Â
Going to Frankie's, of course.
Its a cool bar for locals and post-collegiate peeps to chill and watch games...and get splashed.
I really like the grill that's right in the middle of the bar...so you can see what they are doing to your food as you pound beers.
The 12" hot dog with cheese is always deelish at 2am.
I gotta move down the shore.
After spending the day up at the boardwalk bars and dealing with the typical Jersey Shore crowd, it was a breath of fresh air to step into this place. Â You can tell that this is a locals type place, and a good one, as it was absolutely packed. Â There were probably only 1 or 2 empty bar stools. Â
To start, the decor of the place is absolutely awesome. Â With the exception of the modern flat panel TV's they have, this place could easily be a movie set for a 60's movie. Â The place just had a really cool classic feel to it and was very clean which is always a plus. Â Definitely one of the cooler places I have been to in a real long time.
I had also read a lot of the other reviews that said the waitstaff wasn't friendly. Â I must say that our waitress was very good. Â The service was great and she was incredibly friendly, so that was a nice plus. Â I felt like I had to address that as a lot of the other reviews knock the service pretty hard.
I had been told and read that this place has phenomenal burgers, so it was a no-brainer for me as to what I was going to order. Â I am a huge burger fan - I don't know if it is my favorite food but they are definitely one of my favorites. Â A good burger done right is nothing short of spectacular. Â Frankie's totally delivered. Â
I went with the Cheddar Burger cooked medium rare. Â I also added lettuce, tomato and onion to the burger. Â I think the toppings were either 25 or 75 cents a piece - this is actually one of my pet peeves, but the burger was so good that I didn't even care. Â I also swapped the chips for some fries. Â On to the burger:
When the burger came out, it looked great. Â I dressed my burger and took my first bite and instant euphoria came over me. Â I really don't know if this was the best burger I have ever had, but it is easily in my top 5. Â The actual burger was 10 oz (slightly larger than most places). Â I ordered it medium rare and it came out exactly that. Â A good burger place should be able to cook a burger properly, but so many places fail at that. Â Frankie's did not. Â Frankie's also uses some very good fresh ground beef. Â You can tell it isn't a patty as the meat isn't in a perfect circle. Â The meat also tastes incredibly fresh - if you have had enough good burgers, you know exactly what I am talking about. Â Fresh ground beef is a staple of a very good burger joint. Â Frankie's totally delivers on that. Â The burger was absolutely delicious - very juicy and was just an excellent all around burger.
A fresh bun is also used. Â I would think they are delivered fresh daily as opposed to being baked on site. Â The fresh bun is a very nice touch, also. Â Even the fries were good, and they give you a ton.
Like I said earlier, this is one of the best burgers I have ever had. Â I will definitely be going out of my way in the future to get a burger here. Â It is also a great place to grab a beer and watch a game. Â They had the Yankees on all the TV's around the bar. Â The beer and food prices are very reasonable here, as well. Â They have a very extensive menu, but I will stick to the burger when I come here.
This place is a gem. Â Great food, good service and a cool all around place.
Always go to Frankies when we are on vacation down in Lavallette, have been going there for years. Â Overall a good place to grab a bite for a decent price. Â Once in a while the serice and food is just so so, but overall its usually good as we keep returning! Â Sometimes there is a bit of a wait, but it usually goes quicker then they tell you....
First off, their clams on a half shell and shrimp cocktail are awesome!!! And the cocktail sauce is my favorite, nice and spicy with lots of horseradish. Â I find the main entrees to just be okay, but like others say their burgers are awesome. Â Juicy, big and full of flavor. Â Pastrami sandwich is also good, onion rings, and salads are also good. Â If your in the neighborhood good place to grab a bite!
Rare roast beef French dip. Tasty. Salty. Big portions. Not bad sandwich prices.
Relaxed atmo.
Better than I expected it would be.
Jersey girl waitresses who will tell you if something sucks. Like their turkey stuffing. Her words, 'like mushy croutons'.
Gotta love aspects of Jersey.
If you're into sports, they surround the bar with HD TVs too.
Basic watery domestic beer selection. Â Nothing out of the ordinary.
I have been to Frankies many years ago. I also remembered them having great ribs, wings, etc. Well, went there after picking my daughter up from the train. It was around 8:30, we were seated right away.
Then we get a waitress who was not, to say the least, very pleasant at all. First things first. " you want drinks?" not "Hello, my name is, I'll be your server.: I just don't understand customer service lately. Maybe there should be a class to teach this.
My oldest daughter is very picky when it come to cocktails and asked for a specific gin. The lady looked at her like she had 2 heads, and said "well, look on the menu" it was not on the menu. My daughter asked if she could please find out. With a little attitude she did, but they didn't have it.
Then our food comes. My husband and one daughter had ribs, I tasted them and they were tough and dry. My other daughter had penne ala vodka, that was ok...I had chicken francaise and never had worse.
The chicken was dry and tasted like just floured chicken, it was on a bed of pasta, that, I think, was just thrown on there with no sauce at all.
BLAND, BLAND, BLAND.
In my opinion, the place is way over priced for such terrible food.
Frankie's is a one trick pony - they do great burgers. Â The rest of the food is typical pub grub. Â Nice bar and I like the fact that nothing here has changes in the past 20 years of so. Â No mistaken it, they are a real Jersey shore beer joint.
Go here to watch your great burger grilled at the bar before your eyes then take the first bit and wash it down with cold beer. Â Life is good...
The usually have good food. But they have a bunch of nasty people that work there. They are rude and shoo you out, which I could sort of understand considering it is a fast paced bar but if you want to stay for 10 minutes you should be able to. Some people like to digest their food. The portions they give you are plenty for the average person and their food has never been undercooked.
They have many TVs for all of the bar goers and usually make a pretty good mixed drink for the ladies(or men).
Ok so this is a two sided review. Â The burger and sweet potato fries were awesome and I like that they are cooked right there at the bar. Â They literaly have a grill in the middle of the bar. Â I got the Canadian Bacon burger with swiss cheese. Â It was very juicy and a nice size too. Â You will want to bring your appetite.
The service on the other hand sucked. Â I was watching the Met game on the TV for a good four innings and was heavily invested in the game. Â It was in the midst of a 0-0 tie in the 9th inning when out of nowhere the channel changes. Â I turn around and the bartender is changing it on me. Â I tell him that I have been watching the game and I'd like it back on and he tells me that this couple that just walked in wants some stupid Lacrosse game on between Maryland and James Madison. Â He did not seem to give a shit that I was watching something. Â I think he even shrugged his shoulders with a too-bad attitude.
I have been a bartender for 9 years and I would never change a channel, especially in a crowded bar, before I asked the people watching it if they minded. Â Absoltely ridiculous. Â
My next tiff is that I am pretty sure that 90% of bars in the New York, New Jersey areas practice buy backs. Â We were there for a few hours and had a $115 tab. Â Most of this was liquor. Â Not one buy back at all. Â Barely a thank you.
Sorry, but the burger was not good enough to over come the shitty service. Â I'd rather go to McD's and grab a 12-pack for home.
Neighborhood bar and grill, very typical Jersey Shore. I should have went for the famous burger, but I instead opted for the BLT special with turkey bacon. It was decent, but the turkey bacon itself was a bit tough, though I don't know too much about turkey bacon myself so who am I to judge? The fries that came with the sandwich were delightfully crisp, and the coldslaw was satisfying yet unmemorable. Good for a quick bite to eat, though the expansive bar here makes me think that this might be a better place to grab a drink instead.
Review Source:Frankie's is a great neighborhood bar. It can get crowded because the word is out that the food is great here. The Burgers might be the best at the Jersey Shore, they're that good. They are grilled on an open flame right in the center of the bar. I've always liked that because it's cool to watch the chef at work, and I've actually picked up a few pointers that way for when I display my own Grill Master skills. It's best to go for lunch so you can get a seat at the bar and it's less crowded.
Review Source:This place is superb! Always jamming w/ locals. I think this place has been around since the 1880's. Very much like a local ''Cheer's!"
Rarely is there an empty seat at the bar. Spicy Bloody Mary's and hand down wins my vote on their Fried Calamari. Awesome!!! Huge open flame grilled burgers, seafood dishes - you name it, they make it!
Lots of TV's to watch the game. Servers and bartenders always ready to take care of you... just the way service should be!
