This place was fantastic. The patio was gorgeous and it was a perfect place to grab lunch after a morning of hiking. Â We got the salmon fish and chips and the salmon sandwich. Â Never thought to batter and fry salmon but it was good. Â We also got focaccia bread. Â I will say that it wasn't good. Â I find it odd that cold dipping sauce is paired with warm bread. Outside of that, the food meals were good, drinks were good, and the view was great.
Also took a tour of the brewery which was pretty cool. Â They give you a free glass at the end.
I'm not a huge fan of the beer here (blasphemy I know!) but I love their consistency and their setting/view. Â The service is always pretty good even when it's busy. Â They do a great job with crowd control and honest wait times.
Their food is wonderful and worth the wait. Â They offer vegetarian options and vegan as well (which actually taste good!).
If you are lucky to be there when it's sunny, sit outside on the back deck and watch the river, even if it's chilly the heat lamps help! (And it's quieter).
Amazing beer. Session black is my favorite, but they are all great. Â View from the deck is amazing, great for parties. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food is delicious. Environment is relaxed and fun. Weekends, might want to make a reservation, lots of visitors. We will be going back.
Review Source:We've tried to go here a few times over the years but the lines were always too long. This time we went at an off-time for a snack and got right in. (When we were leaving there was a line out the door.)
The service was friendly and fast even though they were crowded. Decent prices. I'm not a huge fan of their beers so that wasn't great.
We ordered the wings as an appetizer and while the wings themselves were really good and very spicy, the carrots and celery on the plate were old. It was disgusting. If that chef was on Top Chef and had plated the wings with rotting carrots and celery he'd be sent home. Why did they even put it on the plate? Gross!
Nothing beats drinking a nice beer while staring out the window at a beautiful gorge and snow covered mountains. Â This was my experience at Full Sail. Â I tried the reserve tasting which I enjoyed most of the beers, there were 7 total. Â I ordered a salad so I feel like I can't really talk about the food because of this. Â The waitress was friendly and attentive. Â I would love to go back and try the salmon fish and chips. Â Missed the free tour but they do it daily on the hour in the afternoon.
Review Source:A favorite brewery of mine . It is independently owned and the beer is fabulous. I can get the regular beers back home in my liquor store (Utah) but come here to try something new.
My family and I have taken two road trips up to Portland from Utah. The first time we hit Full Sail while visiting Multnomah and the second time we ate there on the way into Portland and on the way out. The first time i ate there the food was pretty good, but still just Pub food. However, the view on the patio was amazing and it was a great day to enjoy a beer outside. The last two times the food was very delicious. I recommend their beer cheese. I also love their pulled pork. Everyone does pulled pork now days but there slaw really made the sandwich.
One disappointment: We had a the reserve sampler and I really enjoyed a couple of the beers. When I came back the next week only a couple of them were the same. I guess this was just bad luck on my part, they had switched their menu. The beers are very inventive but also educate people on what certain styles from different regions are like.
Third trip down here and it never disappoints. Salmon fish and chips were delicious, as well as the hummus plate. I filled up on beers (had the Amber and Veizen) and ended up leaving more on my plate than I wished! Very good. The view is great when it's not too foggy.
We sat and stayed a while to enjoy our beers and atmosphere, and the relaxed vibe just kept us even longer. The staff quickly cleared empty plates and pints. I also thought they were very attentive, friendly/welcoming, and overall pleasant, so I am not sure what happened on some other people's visits.
It doesn't hurt that you can take a six pack/growler of your fave brew with you!
Finally made my way to Hood River to visit the source of Full Sail goodness. This was already one of my favorite breweries based on the beers you can get in bottles and on tap elsewhere, but after trying the small batch options that are only available in the tasting room it might have edged it's way to the top spot! The atmosphere is good--not overdone and a great view. The beers are fantastic. The food was...alright. Good enough to absorb your beverages, probably not good enough to stand alone as a meal. I found the service (at the bar) to be very quick, the bartenders both friendly and very knowledgeable.
I will be sure to visit in another season to take the tour and see what new treats they have on tap.
We stopped in here on our way home after a morning on the mountain. Â It wasn't very busy when we got there, but it was overflowing by the time we left, so I guess about 1:30 on a Sunday is the right time to get there. Â Anyway, that isn't important.
What is important is that the food, the service and the location were all good. Â My hamburger was overcooked (I order medium in the hopes of getting medium well and always end up with well done anywhere I go), but the rest of the hamburger was great with high quality ingredients. Â I did make the mistake of getting potato salad instead of fries (you try to be a little better and the potato salad ends up not being so great). Â I don't drink beer, but the boyfriend does and liked what he got. Â I suppose that's probably the most important thing about a pub.
Overall, a very solid place to stop for food if you're in Hood River.
This is a great stop when you are heading east out of town, west on your way home or looking for a day trip to Hood River. If you are coming out, start by timing it right to take the tour. They really know their beer. You get to learn, see and smell what they do.
After seeing it made, go in to the pub and drink the beer. I love their Amber as well as their LTD's. The food is really good too. I enjoy the Ruben sandwich.
A must visit in the Gorge.
Loved the beer flight, loved the Fish Sandwich (salmon)! Â Great view of the river. Â I think I would hang out here quite often if it was a local joint.
For the beers, they were crisp and fresh. Â I could definitely enjoy them often. Â I did think they lacked a complexity that other microbreweries are creating. Â So I think there are better beers out there. Â But there is nothing wrong with their ales; and sometimes a crisp, clean brew is what the taste buds want!
I would like to yes to full sail.
-yes try a sample of the beers on tap.
-yes take the free tour
-yes to salmon fish and chips
-yes to beer cheese soup
-yes to the tv screens showing college football
-yes I will return
*kudos to randy the tour guide. He knew his stuff and just returned.
My three words to describe Full Sail are: cool, hip, yes. The beer cheese soup is delicious. I love stopping here for a beer and a meal when road tripping with from Oregon to Idaho. (Just make sure the one who's driving isn't partaking in the awesomeness of the tasty brews.) No matter where you sit in the pub, you can see a beautiful view of the Columbia River Gorge through the large windows.
This is seriously one of my favorite breweries in Oregon. I'm still waiting to go on a brewery tour but that requires a little bit of planning on my part. Stop in. Eat soup. Order a salad. Taste the beer. It's definitely worth the Hood River detour.
There are a handful of NW craft brew pillars, in my estimation.
Bridgeport
Deschutes
Mactarnahan's (I'm still used to it being Portland Brewing)
Rogue
Widmer
Full Sail. Â I miss their Nut Brown Ale so very badly. Â Always, ALWAYS have enjoyed their pale and IPA offerings. Â I'm kinda hot and cold on the LTD series. Â I can't go without a winter without at least a six pack or two of Wassail and a 22 oz. Wreck the Halls.
So, I've been to the Pub twice. Â Both times were for a quick beer. Â My recent trip included a pint of their fresh hopped pils: "Hopfenfrisch". Â Delightful. Â Wonderful, even. Â Sadly, I've never been to the pub for food, so can't comment there. Â It's seemingly on the small side, too, but that may have been a function of how packed it was on both occasions. Â The servers have always been friendly and knowledgeable.
I love the NW beer staples. Â I mean it. Â LOVE.
I want to give Full Sail Brewery Tasting Room & Pub 4, if not 5, stars, but service was horrible. The Viking and I stopped by to grab dinner after some apple-picking in Parkdale. Food was great; I ordered the steak sandwich and he ordered the burger. Food was fresh; fries were very tasty. But, after our food was served, it appeared our waitress went MIA. Figured with the crowd and her disappearance, there may have been a shift change, but we watched as others interacted with their respective waitress.
Meanwhile, the Viking's beer glass was empty and he wanted another; I was on to water at that point and contemplating another root beer. We waited and flagged a waitress down...
By the time we received attention, the Viking wanted to leave, as we had plenty of Full Sail's Session waiting at home. Got the check and, again, while waiting to pay, more time ticked-off the clock. We had to tell another waitress - and we did so politely, we wanted to pay and were ready to leave.
I'll definitely go back; food was tasty; beer was great; and the view stupendous. Just hope the next time service is better; otherwise, there will be no third visit.
3 visits here during a 4-day visit to Hood River, and all were terrific. Â You come to Full Sail for the beer, but you also come because it was a brewing pioneer. Â Because you can sit outside and look out to the Columbia River (across the noise of I-84, sadly). Â You come because they're part of the community - sponsoring bike rides and other cool things. Â And, of course, for good beer and good casual food.
Both the pulled pork sandwich and the reuben were satisfying. Â The PP sandwich isn't going to knock you back with real Texas or NC flavors, but the portion of meat was substantial, and the coleslaw on top added texture. Â Pair it with a Sail IPA and sail off to a nap afterwards - or a hike. Â The Reuben had plenty of corned beef, while the mixed green salad with chicken was enough for a light meal. Â The food seems like a foil for the beer - not loaded with intense flavors, but plenty good. Â Side salads that come with sandwiches are fresh and bright.
The beers have more flavor than the food. Â LTD 06 is a dark, creamy brew that was fine on a hot day but seems like it would be even better on a chilly rainy one. Â Sail Ale is hoppy, with a bit of citrus taste, and just right for a hot day. Â If you can't decide, get a flight.
Inside is dark and cozy. Â The outside is brighter, but with the 2 walls on either side, I thought it was actually a bit stuffy on a hot day, and as I said, the is almost constant noise as the big wheelers and cars speed by down on I-84. Â Service was friendly and pretty fast, even when the place was bustling. Â Oregon doesn't oppress people with tax on food, so that was an added bonus.
We showed up conveniently right before the 3:00 PM tour. After trying a sampler of the imperial, we ended up with a private tour with one of the brewers. It's pretty cool that everyone takes turn giving tours - our guide was pretty clearly really passionate about her work. This place seems like it's doing real well. Not to mention the free glasses at the conclusion of the tour!
Afterwards, we tried a sampler ($7 for 7 4oz. tastes? more than reasonable...) + some barleywine. Got some garlic fries to go with that. The fries were good, and made even better with all of the BEER.
There wasn't really a beer I didn't like, although my favorite was the imperial we'd had before the tour.
Service was really nice - we had like three people taking care of us in an organized way.
This place is absolutely worth a stop if you're in Hood River.
Oh, and the six packs they sell to take home with you...bar-gain!
Three words for you: Â The Taster Tray
Seven 4oz brews are the perfect accompaniment to, well, pretty much anything. Â Â When looking at the description of the tasters, and seeing two that I probably wouldn't enjoy, I asked the server if I could swap them out for two others instead; she happily obliged. Â The beers were all good, but nothing stood out as really great.
I paired my taster tray with their Hummus Plate, and enjoyed it immensely. Â To be honest, the hummus, although fine, was my least favorite part of the hummus plate--- the artichokes, feta, et al, served with it, out shined the hummus itself.
A nice view of the river could be seen from most of the tables; unfortunately one could see the freeway as well. Â Â They have both indoor tables and a large outdoor patio.
If you are in the mood for a taster set and a good appetizer, I'd totally recommend this place. Â But, if you only have time for one brewery in Hood River, I'd hit Double Mountain instead.
It is not a trip to Hood River without stopping here. Â I have coming up to the gorge since the late 80's, and I have watched this brewery just get better and better. Â This trip was no exception. Â The in-house drafts are so damn good, no matter which one you get they go down so easy!! Â
I am addicted to the pulled pork sandwich, ate many other things but that sandwich is as addictive as the wind sports on this river! Â
The patio view overlooking the river is always a great spot to end the day.
Good food, great staff, wonderful location, and decent beers that are limited to the brewhouse only.
I had been purchasing Full Sail brews for a while now at nearby Trader Joes, and even after agreeing to take a spontaneous trip to Washington/Oregon, I never suspected that I would set foot at the Full Sail brewery. We were making our way to Mt. Hood when we decided to stop by Hood River and grab a quick bite to eat. I instantly saw the brew house and decided that we should go there. We went there and I was quite surprised by there reasonable offerings, decent prices, and of course, their extensive selection of beers.
I had their tempeh burger with fries and one of their special beers of the month. The burger had a tempeh patty made by a neighboring restaurant, which frankly, tasted like fermented tofu and was far too forward in that flavor, but the rest of the "Full Sail style" burger was fresh and had a great balance of favors. Their brew house only beer was flavorless and too wheaty, and I think I should have gotten one of the beers that gets to go on the shelves back home instead, but I felt adventurous.
This place was above decent in most respects and definitely go on a tour either before or after you eat!
Not only did they have great beer, but the food was excellent! Had a hummus platter (YUM) and a Turkey Sandwich. Normally, carved turkey is pretty dry and requires a lot of condiments to bring it back to life. I was so impressed with how moist and flavorful the carved turkey was. It was topped with an avocado lime spread and spicy mayo.
As for the beer, they etch a tiny hole in the bottom of their glasses to maintain a steady flow of replenishing foam bubbles. I'd never seen that before but definitely appreciated the knowledge and lesson.
Also, we snagged a great seat on their outdoor patio area. It's on a hill overlooking the river with truly gorgeous views. We honestly couldn't have asked for a better seat! Full steam ahead, Full Sail!
I have had Full Sail IPA and Full Sail Amber for some time now. Â So, when we were in Hood River, it was a must to stop in and see what the 47 are up to.
The Pub is very nice and has windows all along the backside of the restaurant which offer great views of the Columbia River Gorge. Â The entrance was also pretty cool with a kite and sailboard sail hanging in the hallway.
We ended up drinking Session and Session black to quench our thirsts. Â Plus, Session is not available in our area. Â Very smooth.
We also ordered a Reuben sandwich which was excellent. Â In fact, best I have had. Â Slow roasted beef brisket topped with Session-cured bacon and apple sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and a zesty Russian dressing. $13. Â
They also have a great selection of T-Shirts and other souvenirs.
We ended up in Hood River, Ore. during a meandering drive down US30 and I-84 and were certainly glad we stopped here. A Lonely Planet Pacific NW guide recommended several stops including Full Sail. I was expecting to wait upwards of an hour for a table, seeing as it was a Saturday and there were plenty of folks around for the brewery tour. However, we were able to snag a two-person seating area and still catch a great view of Hood River.
My dining partner and I tried the artichoke dip, which was fantastic (5 stars). Entirely too much for two people; we'd have been better served bringing 2 friends along to assist. I had the steak sandwich (3.5 stars) and tried a bit of her pulled pork sandwich (3.5 stars). The fries (2 stars) served with were standard, average pub fries. The steak sandwich was a delicious mess; it was a nice touch to have Sriracha sauce directly on the sandwich. The service was good, but I would have appreciated the same server for our entire visit -- it seemed as though 3-4 different people brought us drinks, beer, appetizer, and food; I didn't know who to tip!
The tasting flight (5 stars) is where we got our money's worth: seven 4-ounce pours for $7, plus an eighth sample just for kicks. The Full Sail amber and IPA were a good start but my personal favorite was Phil's Existential Alt. Maybe it was my existential pondering that ruled the afternoon, but I'd gladly drink this again...if only shipping beer were legal (confession: I don't know if it is legal or not)...
Above all, this was a solid stop for lunch on our recent Columbia River excursion. Great beer selection, great views, delicious food, and spot-on service. Now if only we'd had the guts to try windsurfing...
Do the Tour. Â Do the Tour. Â Do the Dew......whoops, I mean Tour.
My wife and I have now been to Portland twice. Â The first time out we stumbled onto (not into) Full Sail on a quick tourist trip away from Downtown Portland. Â We fell in love. Â And so this time around, we made sure to schedule a day to dedicate out in Hood River so we could enjoy our time at Full Sail Brewery.
We did the brewery tour. Â Which was a lot of fun. Â Everything is done right there on site. Â And they will field all the stupid questions you throw at them. Â At the end of tour you get a couple special surprises to help you enjoy the beer as you head back up to the Tasting Room.
The Tasting Room. Â I'm not a big beer drinker. Â I've only just recently gotten into drinking beer. Â And I still don't quite have the taste for it. Â But everything I've tried at Full Sail I have enjoyed. Â From Barleywine's to IPA's and from Stout's to Nitro Ale's, I've tried them all and generally I have enjoyed each glass.
And nothing quite rounds out the brewery experience without some good old fashion pub food. Â Full Sail does a great job of having an eclectic menu with plenty of fried (and some slightly healthier) delights to satisfy everyone.
You can bet that we'll be back to Full Sail.
I like Full Sail beer. The general selection doesn't include the most mind blowing brews in the North West, but they're consistently decent--and I enjoy just about everything that comes off the line.
The pub food is (Danger: watch for over-used buzz words) standard fare with a couple of notably good items. The fries are 10 ounces of crispy goodness, and I have the thighs to prove it.
Anything good that could be said about the pub is 100% over-ruled by the awesome ineptness of the waitstaff. Bartenders aside--who happen to be quite charming--the women who work the floor are the snobbiest, most inattentive, and grossly over glorified group of waitrons I've ever come across. And it's not as though I haven't worked a boat-load of food service jobs.
My advice? Go on the tour, buy a case, then go to Double Mountain for some tasty pizza and a more jovial atmosphere.
Really fun place to go, I'd especially suggest taking the free tours that usually conduct at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm or 4pm. Not to mention that after the tour our lovely hostess/tour guide, Jessica, gave us free Full Sail Glass Cups and s*** ton of stickers with a bottle opener. :D
Food is equally as good, as well as the beer. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Pasta with a mini 4oz serving of the Amber. YES I SAID 4oz. They actually serve beer that small, which is really convenient for those that want more variety than just one. The smoked salmon was especially smokey and it's nice that the menu gives pairings as well. But I gotta vouch for the Amber. It was especially delicious :)
For a brew pub, Full Sail is fast becoming one of my favorites. While the view of the river is a great reason to stop here, the food holds it's own.
We usually end up in Hood River, hungry, after a full day of wine tasting nearby. So to keep the tasting going, we get the beer taster and try to remember our favorites. I'm personally a big fan of the Session Lager, I have to actively avoid purchasing a case to take home, otherwise it'd never make it all the way home. (Nor would I make it home either!)
An order of the focaccia bread with the garlic spread is a must for anyone coming here. The spread tastes like pure pureed garlic!
But to me, the real star is the Steak Sandwich. In my travels across the US, and especially Philadelphia, I have become a fan of the humble Steak. For my money, Full Sails is one of the best interpretations I've ever had. The meat is tender and actually has taste. The veggies are perfectly cooked, the Jack melting over the entire mess, and topped off with spicy Sriracha mayo. That is a sandwich worth getting out of bed for.
I'm also a fan of Beer Cheese Soup. Again, Full Sail has one of the best interpretations I've ever had. This the kind of soup you want a bowl off on a cold, stormy day. Luckily, that describes Hood River more often then not.
Oh, and if you have time, do the brewery tour. It's interesting to see how the beer is made and gives a much better appreciation of their products.
This might be closer to a 3.75 star! I just can't quite give them a 4 in comparison to some of my other 4 star favorites. (That being said, I think 3 is very easy to recommend to someone and 3 stars are often some of my regular joints!)
We had been leery to try this spot for lunch because reviews have been mixed, at best. However, a local woman we're friendly with said they'd changed fairly recently and were "better" now. As our first lunch choice was closed, we popped in here for a bite.
We didn't have to wait too long, which is surprising based on the diminutive size of the dining area! I'd hate to hit this place on a Saturday night - the wait would be torture. Sunday at 2pm was fine, though. :)
The view is pretty awesome - there's just no topping a view of the Gorge!
The staff was great. The beer and cheese soup didn't blow anyone's minds, and the fries were average - BUT my grilled turkey and brie sandwich? I'm still thinking about driving out to Hood River from Portland this weekend to have another one. I'm pretty picky when it comes to grilled sandwiches - but this was the sort of perfect, deep golden brown I aim for at home, and the cheese was melty and funky, the turkey was great, it wasn't too salty or heavy - just a killer. effing. sandwich. I REALLY liked my sandwich, so did the bf. His salad was fantastic as well - and 5 stars for local pears. Incredible.
I also had a glass of a limited batch bourbon barrel aged imperial porter - which pretty much blew my mind. If they still have some your next visit, I cannot say enough good things about it. YUM.
