10/9/2013 - Had my first visit since Restaurant Impossible was there... the place is beautiful!  The wait staff was more on top of things since my last visit.
I had the fried chicken, mac & cheese and cole slaw... it was delicious!  They mentioned to us that they now roast the chicken in advance, before coating/frying,  cutting down on the prep time - good idea and it worked!  The mac & cheese was good as always and the slaw was too!.  The waiter promoted appetizers and desserts during our visit.... we had the Gator Bites, and Tempura Crawfish - both FABULOUS!  I went out of my comfort zone with dessert and chose the Bacon Brownie - well let me tell ya - you gotta try it - not overpowered with bacon, but the combination of sweet and salty was amazing!

I'd say that the guys learned a lot from Robert during his visit and have starting turning their business in the right direction... they still have some renovation going on and I'm sure that the bar area will be just as beautiful once it's completed.  Bathrooms haven't been touched since I don't know when, but I'm sure a little paint and cleaning will have those spiffed up soon enough.

Overall, I enjoyed my meal, service and the atmosphere... I'll be back soon!

Having eaten here prior to the make over, and not being impressed, I was curious what could have been done.  So I and some friends stopped by after the makeover.  The dining area looks great.  Nice atmosphere.  However the bathrooms need their own makeover.

On to the food...the menu is more limited, but it appears to have a good selection.  They were also offering specials for the evening, which I like because It gives you a break from the regular fare.  We started off with gator bites and tried the shrimp and grits meal as appetizers.   No one at the table had ever had either before.  The gator bites tasted like battered chicken breast.  Not bad, but nothing exceptional.   I'm not a fan of grits, but these had cheese in them...so how bad could they be?  Again, nothing exceptional.  The shrimp though, had a good flavor.

I chose the chicken pot pie, being a fan of pot pie.  It's hard to screw it up, but again nothing to rave about.  One of the party had the crab cakes, which included the collard greens.  He said that the crab cakes had a vinegar taste, but aside from that they were full of crab meat.  Keeping in mind they are not a Maryland crab cake, I think crab fans will like this meal.  I know the collard greens are a staple in the restaurant, but no one at the table is a fan of them, so I can't rate them one way or the other.

Two at the table chose the fried chicken meal.  The chicken was tender moist and had a unique taste, that keeps you wanting more.  The mac and cheese is baked, just like my mom did it and was very good.  The slaw was also very good.  Very much worth the visit to the restaurant.

We finished the meal with the peach cobbler.  another dish that is hard to mess up.  The ice cream was homemade vanilla...very good.

When we went the restaurant didn't have a lot of customers, so we had an attentive waitress.  She was friendly and informative.   Overall a very good experience.  We intend to return and try some of the other meals.

    Keep up the good work.
