My first bison burger experience happened at the Geyser Grill. This wasn't my first choice, but obtaining a bison burger in Yellowstone proved to be challenging. What kind of food stand serves every kind of burger imaginable including a salmon burger, but not bison - in Yellowstone, mind you. I was beyond frustrated and had told myself I wasn't going to leave the area without having a bison burger. If it wasn't for the Geyser Grill outside of the park in West Yellowstone, I would have been wildly disappointed.

The burger ended up being nothing exciting. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but basically it tasted like a gamey version of a hamburger. However, after a quick search online, I learned how much healthier bison meat is compared to beef.

The huckleberry lemonade was tasty, although a bit on the sweet side. Another local berry that you don't see often in CA.

Thanks for satisfying my need for bison, Geyser Grill!

The food was mostly good. The space is small. Not enough places to sit inside.

The buffalo burger was dry and there was no mayo in the entire place. The fish was tasty, but really buttery. Good salad and potato. Really slow service. The staff seemed reluctant and not happy about helping.

I could eat there again if I had to, but would probably choose something else.

Stopped in for dinner after a long day at Yellowstone. The front desk person at our hotel recommended the restaurant because they had ribs on special that night. She even had a box of them to show us and they looked delicious so we followed her directions and went over. We had to park across the street as there was no parking in front but that was okay it wasn't a long walk. When we went inside the restaurant it felt like walking into someone's living room. There were only about 7 or 8 tables and the kitchen was open on the side. There was a hallway in the center with the bathroom and some other doors.

We were seated in the center of the room and the very friendly waitress greeted us and immediately took our drink order. I had iced tea and my husband had a bottle of Moose Drool beer. She then read off the special of ribs and went to get our drinks. For an appetizer we ordered a bowl of bison chili to share (it was absolutely delicious!) and for our entrees my husband ordered the ribs and I ordered trout. It arrived quickly and and both entrees were prepared with mashed potatoes with white gravy and steamed broccoli topped with Parmesan cheese. The entrees were great and the portions were huge! The waitress was also great as well - she was the only one and she managed to check on us consistently even after several more groups came in. I also watched her help a group of tourists from Germany who did not speak much English and all of them seemed very satisfied with their food and the service.

Overall this was one of the best restaurants we ate at on our trip to Salt Lake City, Grand Teton and Yellowstone. The food and service were top notch and the staff made us feel very welcomed - the restaurant seemed like it was in their home and they treated us like valued guests. I definitely want to return if I ever have the privilege of visiting Yellowstone and this great little town again!

We were recommended this place by the front desk of the hotel as one of the better places in town.  I stopped by to pick up takeout to bring back.  It's far enough away from the main tourist area where you really need to drive here.  It's way too far to walk and with the unpredictable afternoon showers you could get stuck here longer than you wish.  There is no parking in front of the restaurant and the alley it sits next to, is too narrow, so try parking in the lot across the street.

As you walk up to the restaurant, you can tell it's a mom and pop type place.  The staff was very friendly and the menu was simple.  I had a big greesy lunch earlier that day so I ordered the chef's salad for myself.  For my son I ordered the mini corn dogs. And ordered the special of the day for my wife -fried shrimp with steamed broccoli and mash potatoes.

The chef's salad was nothing more than a bagged green salad (ice berg lettuce) with sliced lunch meat thrown on top.  It wasn't horrible, but for $13 I expected more.  It definately wasn't enough for a meal.  My son's mini corn dogs was the stuff you buy at Costco - nothing  special, and for $5 they give you 6 along with a mini container of Motts apple sauce.  My wife's fried shrimp was the only thing that resembled a meal not prepared by an 8 year old and that was $19.  After all that, we spent about $40 (without drinks) and was still pretty hungry.

The final draw was that we were ordering to go.  They didn't have any forks - you ever eat a salad without a fork?  They didn't tell me until I asked for one.  The also didn't have any bags for me to put my food in, so I had to carry a stack of Togo boxes out to the car.

As I was waiting, I notice that their sandwiches were about $10 each.  No doubt tourist prices.  We ate in the Canyon Village cafeteria, and although it's nothing to write home about, I was pretty satisfied and the prices were not outrageous.

Should give a five star for the great service. But as for us, the price is a little bit expensive than we expected.  We ordered 3 steak, 1 buffalo steak and the salad come along was good but the soup was extremely salty. I actually love my buffalo steak! Great! But my friends really not a fan for their order... RECORDED the buffalo steak but not the regular one.

Amazing service. Average food, but considering what else west yellowstone has to offer, not too far off.

Five stars goes to the service.  They are fine, friendly folk.  After spending the whole day in Idaho, and all over Wyoming, I got a hankering for a baked potato and some trout. Go figure. I forgot that fish is catch and release, locally, and this place has farm raised fish.  Don't judge, but I rarely buy farm raised fish.  It's that California/Organic thing of mine. So,  I ordered the Sirloin steak ($18.95) with a baked potato and perfectly steamed broccoli.  The steak was good-- not "the juiciest" but it had a nice char-grill flavor to it.  My husband tried his first Bison burger. He said it tasted beefy and was dry.  The nice waitress explained that Bison is lean (and I believe that), and law requires burgers to be cooked to a certain temperature-- hence it turns a bit dry.  It's a very busy place, albeit small.  We'll be back to try their Friday Prime Rib dinner,  the day before we fly home to California.

We visited Geyser Grill while we were recently in West Yellowstone. The atmosphere is comfortable and has a family feel. The sandwiches and pie were delicious! If we go back to West Yellowstone, we will definitely make a stop here again.

Having lived in Texas, our standards for chicken fried steak are quite high, and the Geyser Grill version was surprisingly authentic. The steak was crunchy on the outside and the flavorful gravy had a slightly peppery bite.  Delicious.  The trout was good, but the skin was not as crispy as it could have been.  The broccoli was perfect - not overdone. The berry fruit pie with huckleberry ice cream was a terrific ending to a good meal.

good for a quick bite while staying in the Old Faithful Village.  Hot dogs, burgers, soup, apple turn overs, etc.

Small place but great food! Staff was friendly in spite of being quite busy! Prime rib was excellent! Went back the next night and enjoyed  the turkey sandwich. Will most definitely return.  This was a good find, as West Yellowstone is filled with overpriced dining options for average food. Not much parking in front but if you drive around, you'll find a place at the corner.

I LOVED it!  It was fantastic- the atmosphere had a very low key, family restaurant feel; the cook could look out over the grill at the dining area.  But the FOOD was first class fancy; the steak was outstanding and HUGE.  And our server was a doll!  Very conscientious.  I had a great time, and it's tough to find a place that isn't outrageously packed or a total rip-off in this area.
