I love the Ginger Man. It feels warm and woody. Service is never less than great. Their waitstaff is generally knowledgeable about what they carry. It's dimly lit and has an amazing beer selection. The bartender will also make you a mixed drink or pour you a glass of wine. The food is not awesome, but it'll do in a pinch. I've had the soft pretzel and a turkey sandwich here. They even gave me grapes on the side with my sandwich.
Get the Belgian beer flight. It's my favorite!
Went here with a group of friends the other day. The bar is extremely long, but the place is not wide enough to allow people to walk through between the tables and the bar. It gets very crowded in there. The service is really slow. The beer is very expensive compared to other pubs at the Shops at Legacy. I wouldn't bother wasting your time here. I gave it two starts because the patio is decent.
Review Source:I love the shops at Legacy. It is nice to have dinner and drinks at various locations within walking distance. Â The Gingerman at the Shops at Legacy is a great pub. Â They have a great assortment of beer on tap. Â The food is good, nothing fancy, but good none-the-less. Â I really enjoy the outdoor patio. Â It is great for small or larger groups. Â They have live music, check out the schedule on their web site. Â Casual, laid back and great beer!
Review Source:Love, Love this place and did we ever need a laid back place like this one.. The wait staff are very nice and always know our order since we frequent there very Saturday night before we go for dinner. Â They do have a food menu but not extensive as what they really are about is all their imported beers. Â However, the spinach artichoke dip is pretty good.
The outdoor seating is plentiful and faces the main street of Shops at Legacy (Bishop) and on Saturday nights Shops at Legacy has a live band just across the street from Ginger Man, during the summer months.
You must try it!
Feeling like you need a drink? Tired of the same o' beer you always drink? Head over to Ginger Man and pick something different. Be adventurous. They have beer selections from all over the place. I love coming here because I love trying new things. It can get packed pretty quick, and there's not a lot of sitting area inside. The patio is pretty spacious so that's pretty good. A great place to catch up with friends!
Review Source:Oh my Ginger Man...I love you so. I have slowly worked my way into loving beer and I owe it all to you. :) From the vast selection they have to the delicious pairings of food, I could honestly sit there all night.
This location is narrow and has a generous patio. The interior is dark, but well lit so you feel like you're one-on-one with people. The staff is incredibility friendly and knowledgeable about their offerings. If you didn't have to work so hard to find parking at Legacy, you wouldn't mind coming up here every weekend!
On the weekdays, this bar is great if you're 28 and older. Â You can chill at the bar, order some great food, relax in the great lighting and atmosphere. Â But if you're between 21-27 years old, you'll feel more at home here on the weekends, when it gets crowded to the brim. Â Your local divey craft beer spot turns into a collegy, sweaty packed nightmare that's constantly looping Foster the People and Phoenix on the jukebox. Â Not that those bands aren't fine or whatever but...still. Â Go for the trivia nights and go in the springtime - they have a fantastic outdoor seating area that overlooks the Legacy bar-area nightlife.
Review Source:The Gingerman is one of the more laid back bars at the Shops at Legacy; you won't have to deal with as many pretentious people at this bar. Â They have a great beer selection and good pricing as well. Â I really liked their beer float and I have also heard great things about their trivia night.
Review Source:The Ginger Man is located in the Legacy Town Center and is basically a craft/local beer place. Â I don't believe that they have food, but we were here for drinks anyway and heading somewhere else for food. Â
Can't remember exact number, but probably around 40-50 taps with a lot of local Texas beer and some great selections from all other parts of the US. Â Sat at the bar and had great service. Â Servers are very knowledgeable with the beer options and can help anybody out to find a suitable beer for any tastes.
There is a fair likelihood of me returning to Dallas on a regular basis and I will certainly make a stop at the Ginger Man whenever I am in the area. Â
Looks like a place that can get busy as the night goes on, so I would recommend heading there early on a Friday or Saturday night.
This is the way bars are meant to be.   Casual, comfortable, social.  A place where  you can chat up the people next to you, or enjoy your own group of friends spending time together.  Several visits in past few months on various nights..  wish they had better food selection - but again, simplicity reigns here.  Basic bar snacks no real meals.  Ask for wings or tv and they might show you the door.   This is not a sports bar and that is a good thing..  Patio and live entertainment is nice - darts in back as well reminds me of NY.
Review Source:Every 6 months, I come to plano for team meetings, and every 6 months, a cross section of our group comes out to the ginger man, and sets up shop for the night.
The bartender is awesome. She also knows that I'll go down the line ordering beers from my hometown, and banned me from doing so. It turns out, Texas has a good beer or two.
the tables outside are fantastic. Even in November, it was warm enough to sit outside and enjoy ourselves.
Overall, I loved this place, and look forward to going back again.
The Ginger Man is a solid bar with friendly staff. Â On the night I visited they were dealing with a freak power outage that only effected their shop, weird. Â But once the power came back on the staff kept it together. Â They have a large draught beer selection with plenty of Texas micro-brews on the wall. Â There is a nice patio that was packed since the power was out but it looked like it could be enjoyable.
Review Source:My favorite watering hole in Plano. Patio seating outside is absolutely fantastic during Summer. Hang around with a few friends or just be there alone (have done it all)... it just feels very comfortable and welcoming....
Staff is wonderful, though slow at times... They often suggest you specials of the week and can offer a sample for you to try. Not much food items sold here.. but some basic stuff available to munch along with your beer. This place doesn't have the same vibe as the one downtown, but still a cool place to hang out over the week or weekends!
Wide selection of beer, great atmosphere and friendly service...
...and every Thursday in the summer they have live music outside. Great place to hangout with your local friends or to bring an out-of-town guest.
They also have some descent appetizers. The soft pretzels are a favorite.
Monkey beer! Â Ask for the monkey beer! Â It's only available during the summer time, so have fun with it while you can. Â I warn you, this isn't any old beer....it will definitely knock your socks off after consuming two bottles.
I like that this place has so many kinds of beer from all over the world. Â It's really fun to try their options. Â I have no problem coming here again and again when I am in need for a good cold one...right out on the patio!
The Ginger Man has a long list of beers and a food menu, with some decent options. Â My visits have mostly been on weeknights (or Sundays) and it seems to be a very chill place. Â There is always plenty of seating inside and they have a great patio (perfect for people watching!). Â There is an occasional band playing (love!), and most recently I saw a really cool folk trio there. Â Service has been friendly and efficient. Â I have no complaints about this place, and it's quickly turning into one of my favorites!
While you're in the area, also check out Ringo's.
I'm being slightly generous with 3 stars on this review. Â I've been a huge fan of the Uptown Ginger Man for many years and this place is absolutely nothing like the one in Uptown. Â This location could be just any ol' strip mall wanna be pub, nothing special. Â The only special thing about this location is that it gets you out of the ridiculous Plano/Frisco Shops at Legacy crowd and puts a nice, cold beer in your hand. Â
When I was there last night(a Sunday night) the weather was great and the seating outside was full. Â Our waiter was sloooooowwwwwww, but the guy on the guitar playing some tunes was good and made up for the poor service. Â The cold Hoegaarden didn't hurt either.
I give it a solid four stars.
Great service (see my check-in,) and it's always nice to see when employees/management pays attention to online reviews.
Good pretzel and dough-covered brat thingie with spicy mustard.
Had me wishing I'd grabbed two.
Not a huge fan of the styrofoam containers, but then again-- that seems
to be the norm for Dallas and most places.
I could see happily coming to this section for some window-shopping, and kicking back with a drink, a book, and some munchies here.
It may be right in the heart of the Shops at Legacy but don't let that scare you away. Yes, you will see packs of cougars pass you on the street to make their way to Sambuca and swarms of dudes in striped shirts trying to figure out where Ra is so they can make even more unfortunate decisions, but once you step off of the street and wander inside, life is good again.
I think it has to do with the atmosphere. This is not a place that is trying to impress anyone. How in the world it ended up across from Taco Diner and Sambuca without somehow spontaneously being sucked into a blackhole of vacuousness is beyond me but thank the gods of physics that scenario has not happened.
You'll walk in and be in the middle of a quaint (read: small) seating area with plush chairs and such. A lengthy bar is beyond, stretching for almost as far back as the building goes with seating at tables matching it the whole way (kind of like a dark hallway, only with slightly less scary monsters waiting at the end of it). A small area for a performer (more on that later) is ahead with a door leading outside to a patio perfect for people-watching (and with several heaters set up, you can do this all year!). Finally there is a small sitting area with a couple loveseats and chairs opposite a larger secluded room with even more places to sit (and "play" darts).
I guess food is served here but in the times I've been here, food was never on my mind (though twice now girls in our group here complimented their salads so take that for what you will... because beer and salad go so well together...). The beer selection is pretty extensive. They don't have everything (no Butte Porter! Blasphemy!) but they have a lot. And I don't know if this is because they have no smaller mugs or because I look like a struggling artist in need of help but every time I have ordered coffee here, they deliver it in a full-size beer glass. That's like three cups of coffee right there! Sure, you can't really pick it up without burning yourself and that much caffeine all at once may be enough to raise the dead but whatever. I say bring it on.
Which is actually a fitting thing to say regarding a challenge and that's exactly what you'll get if you're here on a night when a local musical performer takes the "stage." It doesn't matter if they're inside, on the patio, playing fast or acting like we're in a Starbucks: I have never heard anyone good play here. Yes, "good" is subjective (just like the review you're reading) and yes, it takes talent and bravery to play/sing before total strangers but trust me when I say you're doing the world a favor when you do not applaud for the 1,724th cover of that John Mayer song you hate (one guy managed to somehow destroy Elvis Costello's "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes" once when I was there, a crime met with exile in some countries).
And service can be a bit hit or miss, too. Freud would have a field day with this but I've noticed that the times a guy waits on us, we spend most of our time waiting on him for our beers. But if a gal is waiting on us? Service to burn. Again, draw your own conclusion there because I'm not going to.
All in all, places seldom get better than this in this whirlpool of trendy Plano nightlife. You may have to put up with some nonsense to physically get to the place but once you do, it's worth it.
Definitely rock a good selection of beer. Â The food menu is lacking. Â The outside patio seating is above average. Â The staff is always knowledgeable. Â The atmosphere is pretty chill and unlike most of the other places in the area - the patrons don't seem to be pretentious. Â
BUT - my loyalties still lie with the Holy Grail Pub. Â Any day, all day, every day.
I judge an average restaurant visit with three basic things: food, service, and atmosphere.
The food: Â I ordered the roast beef sandwich. Â I should note the description did say that there was a horseradish sauce on the sandwich but I embraced it, I love spicy. Â What the description failed to mention was gobs and gobs of horseradish. Â It burned my nose taking a bite. Other than the nose burning spiciness, the sandwich was great. Â It was fresh, whole wheat bread, fresh lettuce and tomato....just order the spiciness on the side!
The service: Â I finished half of the sandwich and asked if there was a milder condiment available and I was told no. Â That's it, no, and she walked away. Â First, what restaurant doesn't have ketchup?! Â This one! Â I was just looking for something to take it down a notch. Â We had two waitresses and BOTH were inattentive. Â They made no attempt to make the sandwich better by remaking it, just nothing. Â
The atmosphere: Â It's pretty low key, not too crowded, not pretentious, just right. Â They have a ton of beers on tap. Â They played a pretty good mix of music, recent and not so recent. Â They have live music occassionally, indoor and outdoor seating, trivia on Monday, bingo on Wednesday (that we stumbled on, free and fun!), I am sure the list goes on.
I look forward to visiting another location of the Ginger Man soon, Plano is not close to me at all but I will return if I am ever in the area.
This place was fantastic. Â I was impressed by all the beers they had on top as well as bottles. Â The crowd was fun and it wasn't crazy loud so you can have a conversation still and not have to shout.
Best thing... they have Victory Golden Monkey. Victory beer is a small brewery in the Philadelphia suburbs. Â I've only ever seen it two other times so it's very rare, even in Philly. Â They get serious bonus points with me for carrying that, and pretty much every other beer known to man.
I went in for a few beers after work - - good crowd, great patio, decent apps and good service. I sipped on cider and sampled some hummus and soft pretzels. While we got there after 5 on a Friday, we had no problem finding a seat outside.
I look forward to returning again for another pint on the patio.
Good beer selection, great music and a laidback vibe - a nice break from the other pretentious and stuffy joints in the area. I mean, next door is a taco place that charges unreasonable amounts for literally bite-sized tacos and that is what I've come to expect from restaurants at the Shops at Legacy.
Ginger Man is a great place to meet up with a group of friends and drink the night away while listening to mellow indie music interspersed with some fun tacky beats from the '80s, and there are tons of beers and ciders to try. My personal favorites are Strongbow (a UK import) and the pear cider. I'm not much of a beer girl, so anything light and fruity gets my vote. I've also tried the beer float, which is exactly what you think it is. It leaves a strange aftertaste, but try it if you're adventurous!
Having spent a semester in London, I've familiarized myself with pubs and GM is pretty much spot on except that it's much cleaner and you don't have to fight people for tables. Well, most of the time. It can get packed.
Mondays are pint night, where you get to buy the beer of the night and keep the glass. Not too shabby :)
Beer menu in Plano? I am definitely there.
I don't really know what everyone is referring to re: ID swiping or joining a "club." My friends and I showed up, flashed our IDs, and drank the night away without a problem.
Great selection of beer broken down by type (brown ales, IPAs, etc etc) so if you know what you like, you can easily try something similar. Bartenders were quick. The decor is nice and there's a cozy outdoor area, though more heat lamps would definitely be nice. The crowd is diverse but tends towards the young - I'm pretty sure half of my high school graduating class of 2006 was here.
-1 star for how crowded it was and how hard it was to find seats, though we eventually snagged an awesome corner in the back filled with couches and comfy chairs.
Drinks - 3/5
Service - 4/5
Price - 3/5
Atmosphere - 3/5
Best Dish: there are all types of beer
Your typical bar in the Plano/Frisco area. Everything is brand new, everything is clean, and everything is overpriced. The biggest drawback of the bar is how tight they placed the seating area next to the bar. Other than that, they offer good beer specials each day and I love the jukebox (mainly because I'm a sucker for classic bar songs from the 80s).
I really had my heart set on falling in love with The Ginger Man at The Shops at Legacy...but alas...our love was not meant to be.
Yes, I'm from Austin...perhaps it's not fair to compare...but I admit - I was hoping to find a little teeny tiny itsy bitsy slice of Austin in North Dallas at this pub. Â In that it's called "The Ginger Man" and they have a fairly wide selection of draft beer...I suppose it is similar. Â But - that's pretty much where it ends.
I can't entirely knock a place b/c it's not like the original...but my Live Oak Hefeweizen just seemed off...and not cold enough. Â What's up with that? Â I've had plenty of Live Oak Hefes in my day...and I felt like I was drinking an entirely different beer. Â Strike one...
So, we're taking in all the sights (and smells...a pervasive mix of various brands of men's colognes) and we're trying to get in the groove...but the music is just...blah...like a big ole grab bag of guaranteed not to offed your grandma top 40 from the ages. Â Strike two...
I couldn't bare to go further and have my Ginger Man dreams ruined forever...I looked at my half finished pint and said to my husband, "I don't even want this...are you ready to go?" Â Perhaps, he was a bit TOO eager to jump up and pay the tab so that we could skedaddle.
I guess this place is "Eh"-OK...but it's nothing special in my book. Â There are definitely a couple of other spots (within walking distance) with colder beers and about the same crowd.
Although I prefer the Dallas location better (there's just something about that old creaky house that gives it perfect charm), this new location smells all nice and new and has a great pub feel.
It's laid out a little tight down the middle, so good luck getting through to the back area if the bar is more than one person deep. The booths on the left side are big and perfect for hanging out with your buddies for some beer.
Last time we were here, we managed to score the back area for a bachelor/bachelorette party. There's plenty of sitting room back there with darts and a few small tables. Perfect for a small party like us!
The juke box is full of great hits from artists like John Mayer, Janis Joplin, Incubus and Michael Jackson.
The patio is ginormous and offers some great views of the Shops and Bishop Road. Or for watching Taco Diner customers getting schnockered on Mambo Taxis. Either way, the Ginger Man is a welcomed addition to the area.
I finally made to The Ginger Man. Â My wife and I checked out this little pub on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Â It was a quiet, comfortable place to chill and talk. It's actually almost too quiet. They have a jukebox towards the back but you can barely hear it if you're in the front. Kinda weird being in a bar and not having music.
They've got a pretty large selection of beer on tap. We started out with Guiness cause we got to keep the glass. After that we moved on to Spaten Optimator and Old Chub. I can think of worse ways to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.
This place could definitely earn a fifth star because it's so close to home.
Ive been into the g-man here in legacy a few times. Â I even went to compare notes with the original. Â Inspite of my best effort I am struggling to like this place.
Perhaps it cant live up up to the same level of homeliness of its D-town counterpart.
Nice decor - great beer selection, and the patio should be kick arse in the summer. Â Ill have to warm up to this place, the few times Ive been its been either too quite or a complete sausage fest - full of suits.
I will come back and rerate this place once summer kicks in. Praps Ill give it another try on a sunny Sunday arvo.
But thank you g-man for bringing me another bar I can walk too.
Came here on Christmas Eve with a buddy from my running club. I had no idea that Ginger Man had opened a location in the Shops at Legacy, but it's so great to have one in my backyard!
(In case you are wondering, I am the buddy Dana C is referencing in her review, hence me copying her first paragraph word for word)
I'll form my own but similar opinions. I've been here twice now. Many of the things said of the Plano Gingerman are true - it's not in an old house. The beer selection isn't as wide or great. The atmosphere, well, is lacking. It has that brand new, upscale Plano feel to it, like drinking at Abacus or Loft 610. It's in quite a small space, being in the Shops at Legacy. Even the patio area is lacking - a few new benches adorn the otherwise small patio, overlooking Sambuca and the myriad of Ferrari's and Porsche's that adorn the Shops.
What I will say though is that it's great having one here. One of, if not my favorite bar to go to in Uptown. It's close to home, and has the best spinach artichoke dip I've probably ever had. (Served with nice small loaves of french bread - absolute heaven) I haven't had the opportunity to try any of their other food, but I'm assuming even for bar food, it's just as excellent.
The one thing I really enjoy about the Gingerman - sitting at the bar talking to the cute bartenders. Always attractive and friendly, they give their recommendations on new beers on the chalkboard and lovingly give out samples of any beer like the sample ladies at Costco. I've saved myself quite a bit of money trying beers I thought I'd enjoy but otherwise turn out hating. They carry a great selection of local beers from Franconia and Rahr.
The one downside to their beer selection, other than the previously stated small selection - they only get one keg and that's it. Once it's gone it's gone, and is replaced by another seasonal beer. The chalkboard gets frequently updated with what's now being carried.
All in all - I'm glad they opened The Ginger Man in Plano! Not quite the same as the one in Uptown, but I'll take it!
Came here on Christmas Eve with a buddy from my running club. Â I had no idea that Ginger Man had opened a location in the Shops at Legacy, but it's so great to have one in my backyard!
Compared to the Uptown location, this place falls a little short. Â It's not in an old house, and thus, doesn't have the same charm or old pub feel, the selection of beers isn't as good, and the menu isn't quite the same. Â However, the service is delightful and the ambiance isn't that bad. Â
Unfortunately, with the blizzard on Christmas Eve, I didn't get to check out the patio, but it looks really cute and it's about the same size as the inside. Â The spinach dip is fantastic! Â They serve it with warm baguettes which makes the dish. Â It's a perfect pair to some Rahr and Young's.
