Very good food and terrific atmosphere. The wait staff is prompt and friendly. Â We stopped here on the way to Northern Va on a business trip, then delayed lunch so we could eat here on the way back! Â While the entree's are delicious, the desserts are awesome! Â Our waitress even told us that the TOWN MAYOR makes the pies they sell! Â Imagine that!!!
Review Source:We stopped at the Glass House Grill for dinner and it turned out to be a nice little find!
Decor is nice for a diner, service was great and food was very good. Â Had the crab soup (good to very good) - salad (average) - and the fried seafood sampler: fried oysters (very good), fried cod (very good) and a crab cake (average, but grealty improved by the provided remoulade sauce). Â All at a reasonable price and served with a smile!
We will go back if we are in the area!
My co-workers and I recently went here for a team retreat. Â I am a local and frequent the business often; however, my co-workers had never dined in. Â I have always received excellent service and this occasion was no different - our glasses were never empty and we were checked on throughout the day even after we were done with the dining portion of our retreat. Â Not to mention, our food was delicious! Â
We had fried pickles as an appetizer, a tasty treat.  I love that they use chips and not spears much easier to manage and more to share!  Two of us had the crab cake sandwich - fresh, flavorful, and the rémoulade was the perfect blend of zest (and not bad dipping sauce for fries either) to top it off.  Then, came the best part, dessert!  The dessert menu varies from day to day and often if you aren't there on the day or the day after something is made, you miss out.  My co-worker and I eagerly selected the last two remaining slices of an orange cake that had been prepared the day before.  It was delightful and reminded me of a tasty blend of orange sherbert and an orange creamsicle.
I would highly recommend stopping in if you are traveling and if you are a local drop in, get to know everybody, and become a regular! Â You will be glad you came.
For a diner in the of no where this place was pretty good. Right in line with what i would expect from a diner. Stopped in while traveling to DC and had a great cheap meal.
Getting into the place can but a but confusing from the exit ramp for 85 but it real is a pretty quick on and off for some good old diner food!
Conveniently located off the highway, the best part of this place is that it is right next door to a moon bounce house - $5 for access to 5 moon bounces. Also an arcade / bowling alley there. Great for kids. Food is nothing too great - I suppose the chicken BBQ was OK. Typical roadway fare, seemed to me made off-site and reheated.
Review Source:I have passed this restaurant at least a hundred times before I stopped in. Â I wouldn't say that I am a food snob, but based on it's location I had serious doubts as to whether I would be satisfied with the food. Â I had the barbeque chicken special. Â It was absolutely amazing. Â Easily the best barbeque chicken I have ever had. Â I wasn't particularly impressed with the sides (onion rings, salad, etc.) but they obviously took great pride with the chicken. Â The house-made barbeque sauce was the perfect mix of smoky, spicy, and sweet. Â I am looking forward to my next visit.
Review Source:Competent wait staff, fresh made sandwiches, entrées, and sides, homemade desserts, clean dining area, and extremely reasonable prices.  The Chicken Parmesan is delicious, the Fried Pickles are refreshing, and the Chocolate Meringue is to die for! Great burgers to top it off made with Angus beef. This is a local breath of fresh air and a must dine location!
Review Source:I frequent South Hill for business trips and unfortunately there aren't many restaurants to choose from that aren't a fast food place or a chain. I have driven by Glass House several times but after reading reviews on Yelp, I decided to try it.
The staff is extremely timid. It felt as if it was everyone's first day; I had to ask for a straw 3 times; ordered a cup of soup and had to ask for it to be delivered prior to my meal; they don't have wheat bread???. Â The place was not busy and I was there for lunch during lunch hours, yet I heard the manager telling his wait staff "If we can't handle it when it is busy, we might need to think about closing our doors." Â Again, reiterating that the staff should think about changing careers.
The menu itself is your basic diner/American fare. Â I ordered the she crab soup, which was excellent and a BLT (on white bread) with fries. I am a firm believer in there being bacon on a BLT. Â So, although it was good, it could have used more than 3 thin slices of bacon and the fries tasted like the grease they were cooked in. Not soggy, just not good.
Considering the area, I will most likely return as the options are limited and give it another try. I heard several times while dining that the crabcake was great. If it is anything like the soup, it should be.
Happy dining and get the She crab soup!
We almost stopped at the Sonic; glad we didn't (nothing against Sonic). Â Neat building and room, friendly service.
I had the rib basket, my wife a hamburger. Â The ribs were not the best I've had by any means but they were good. Â And the sauce that came with were a pleasant change for dipping a few of my wife's fries. Â My sides were good; I'm not quite sure now what they were though. Â My wife loved her hamburger!
For the ambiance I think the price was reasonable.
Ok. I seriously think these reviews are from friends or family members. I don't understand any of these reviews! The place was empty, the waitress was like a zombie, the burgers were like frozen burgers and my 7 year old ordered wings that said they were hickory smoked and the waitress failed to mention they were spicy. Sonics next door would have been much better and half the price.
Review Source:This place was a wonderful surprise on our drive from DC to High Point, NC. Â Most highway stops are fast food or chain restaurants, but I took Yelp's advice and we stopped here for lunch. The food was excellent and reasonably priced - I had the glass house burger and my husband had the crab cakes. Everything tasted fresh and homemade and the service was very attentive, though we were there somewhere around 3-4 pm on a Friday afternoon. Â We are driving back down to High Point University next week and we will definitely stop by!
Review Source:During a road trip to Florida I stopped here based on the reviews at Yelp. Yelp once again did not disappoint. The food was very good, the prices were reasonable and the service was quick and courteous. What more could you ask for? I make the trip south from DC every year or two so if my pit stop finds me in the South Hill area, I'll be back to the Glass House Grill.
Review Source:Short version: not everything off of the interstate has to be a chain -- stop and treat yourself to the Glass House Grill
We were passing through South Hill on I-85 and given the choices usually available from the blue interstate signs, we weren't holding out much hope for anything but fast food -- what a surprise we were in for!
Simple dishes done well. We had a Virginia-style BBQ with sweet potato chips and pickles, all of which seemed to be homemade. If they weren't then every other restaurant needs to find out their secret supplier and stop dealing in the usual tasteless junk that's out there.
We were in on a very off hour, between lunch and dinner, and the staff couldn't have been more perfect in their attention to detail and how friendly they were.
I've driven 2 hours just to eat here before. Â Probably the best crabcakes I have ever had. Â According to out waiter they are made on-site, and they don't have that frozen taste that is all too common. Â Meatloaf is good, bbq is good, but stay away from the pasta.
They have a wine list, but most of it you can buy across the street at Wal-Mart. Â You never would think that this restaurant was located in the 5th largest wine state as there is only one Virginia wine on the list.
The food is awesome! Â I ordered the ribs and my wife ordered the pulled pork. Â The food was delicious the wine selection is outstanding and the service was wonderful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Â The next time I am visiting I will be eating at the Glass House! Â The peanut butter pie is home-made and absolutely delicious!
Review Source:Really good diner with great ambience, delightful wait staff, and good diner food. It's worth the little jaunt to get there from the interstate (not REALLY difficult, but a bit unintuitive).
I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries...not complex, but the lettuce was crisp, the bacon plentiful and fresh, and the burger itself great.
