Terrible service. We went in 5/6 at about 9:45. The bar had some people in it but it wasn't packed. My fiancé and I had just driven in from the city and were hoping for food, a drink and to finish watching the Blackhawks game.
When we sat down a cocktail waitress looked straight at us and kept walking. She did this several more times, and she wasn't busy she would go check her phone go help another table, go flirt with a guy in back. I don't know her name but she was wearing all black, about 5'1" ish with brown hair that was half up. She was pretty worthless at one point she was counting her tips at the bar. TACKY. After managing bars myself I know how damaging bad staff can be. I will never go back here and will let my friends and family know to never go there either.

TERRIBLE SERVICE WITH A STAFF THAT DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOU.

I am pretty sure that worthless waitress wanted us to just leave. We downed our beer and found a better place.

We love this place. This time we brought the kids. The building is a gangster theme, but very stylish. The service was excellent. We loved the chips and salad -- very unique! The calzones are huge! Our kids split a burger. Overall nice. We will be back.

A decent value with alright food and a decent beer selection. The staff is always okay, attentive. The food is typical sandwiches and salads, it's not bad, I've been there a half dozen times.

It's a sports bar....not a fine dining establishment. My wife and I stopped in here on a Sunday back in November. We were craving burgers and I wanted to watch the Packers game. We both ended up full from the salad and beer nuggets and barely were able to touch the burgers. That's okay...we took them back to our hotel and had them for supper that night. Nothing fancy here...but I'd go back. It was a decent value.

We were not impressed with the staff or the food.  Our friends said they have enjoyed this place in the past but not this time.

The calzone is large enough for 2 - 3 people to share depending on how hungry you are.  It comes with a side of marinara - I'm guessing because there was barely any sauce inside the calzone itself.  It was obvious the marinara is house made but it was quite sweet.  Some people like that, we do not.

All meals seem to come with salad and beer nuggets - which is a good value.  The beer nuggets we had were obviously sitting under a heat lamp for a while so some were a bit tough.

Our server was just okay - but I wouldn't expect more from a sports bar.  The host (I'm guessing he's the manager or owner) was not very friendly at all.  If you are going to host try smiling and being polite.  If you can't do that then stay in the back office.

They have outdoor seating but I had a problem here. We brought a dog and the city of Galena doesn't allow dogs at restaurants. I understand that and we asked if we could have an outdoor table near the sidewalk and I'd do carryout. The hostess was fine with that but the manager had a problem. Therefore, we left the place. Very unaccomodating. They really didn't want our business and we were a party of six at a pretty unbusy time.

Visited in 7/7/12.  Great sports bar-ish atmosphere.  Salad with Raspberry vinaigrette dressing was excellent and came w/pizza.  Bring some breath mints because pizza and beer nuggets are very garlicy but good.  Music is loud for intimate conversation.  Would go back just for the salad dressing.

Gobbie's was recommended to us by a friend back home.  We stopped in twice. Once just to grab a beer during the day and rest our feet. Then one night while we were in Galena we decided to go for a late dinner there.  The service was good and the food was amazing. I will say that it really does have a sports bar feel to it. A large bar takes up the middle as soon as you enter. There are TVs everywhere, the music was a little on the loud side.

The service was prompt and attentive. We never had an issue. Our food was delicious. We were with a group of four. Three of us split one of their Pizzas, the Bacon Cheeseburger. Great flavor and it was very satisfying. The fourth person in our group ordered a salad. She enjoyed it and said it was very delicious.

Gobbie's is exactly how it advertises itself. It's a sports pub and eatery. It's not fine dining or a high end bar. If that is what you are looking for, you will not find it here.  If you are looking for a place to kick back, drink some beer and just have a good time talking with friends. You can't go wrong stopping in here.

Loved it! Everything was amazing! The beer nuggets are awesome!!! The garlic bread covered in mozzarella is incredible and the pizza was fantastic. The dipping sauces definitely seemed homemade. I would definitely go back!

We weren't planning on eat dinner at Gobbie's, but our friend from back home (Chicago) who now lives about 10 minutes outside Galena recommended it and I was nothing but pleased with everything about this place.

We ordered a mozzarella stick app as a snack while we waited for my friend who was coming to meet us and each had a soda. Mountain Dew for my hunny, because I never buy the stuff, and Diet Pepsi for me. The sticks were served with their marinara and you can tell this stuff is homemade. I also ordered a side of ranch and that wasn't nearly as good as their marinara that was served hot. Love it!

Once my friend arrived, we decided what we were going to have and went with sandwiches all around. She got the Gyro which looked amazing. If I wasn't so full, I would have tried it because she offered, but I was already bursting at the seams. My fiance ordered their Hasken Chicken which was a chicken breast with Canadian bacon & Provolone cheese on a hoagie with lettuce and tomato for $10.00. I went with the Robes Cajun Chicken just because it sounded like a fun name. It was a chicken breast with cajun style spices, grilled and topped with cheese for $9.00. Each sandwich came with fries or soup, unlimited house salad & beer nuggets which is just the pizza dough fried up and served with marinara, if memory serves me correctly.

The server was on top of everything and didn't let our drinks get too low. The ambiance is just chill...it's a sports bar with TV's but no one is yelling at them, exactly. The place is somewhere I could see myself hanging out after work if I lived in the area.

ps. I saw the monster calzone they offer....it's like a large pizza folded in half and stuffed with toppings, cheese and sauce. It looked amazing, but I didn't foresee us needing anything so huge since we had such a nice lunch earlier. Looked like something pizza lovers would enjoy!!

Well, I'm glad that I didn't have the problem with flies and bees that some other reviewers had!  At night, the beer garden is fantastic.  They have large comfy couches centered around coffee tables...perfect for having good conversations with friends.

One of the best deals you are going to find. Ordered the Sausage and Peppers thin crust pizza, salad with a raspberry vinaigrette and a order of "Beer Nuggets" (they are tasty little pieces of seasoned baked bread).  It cost 15 bucks and it was really good food. My wife and I were stuffed.  I highly recommend.

I am shocked at all the bad reviews here.  My boyfriend and I are from Chicago and like to visit Galena on a regular basis.  We love it there and find the atmosphere peaceful and relaxing and it takes us away from the hustle and bustle of regular life.

We passed by Gobbies and decided to stop in.  I thought the salad was awesome.  Whatever dressing they use is really good! Thumbs up! He got the Cajun chicken sandwich which he said was really good and I got the turkey club which was also very good :)  Our server was really sweet and very attentive! I would say this place is a definite must if you visit Galena because the food was really yummy, the service great, and the atmosphere fun and inviting! I know when we visit Galena again we will be back there for lunch!

wow, so much anger and negativity over a casual pizza place w/ a bar?  anyway, we came for lunch.  ordered the greek mediterranean pizza which had all fresh ingredients.  we chose it because there's no red sauce.
the beer nuggets were fascinating albeit unneccessary because we were eating pizza.  i tried them so i could review them - fried pizza dough w/ seasoning thatyou dip in marinara sauce - not bad.  but like i said, not neccessary.  also, i found out that the raspberry dressing on the salad is a galena thing.  i didn't like it, but that's 'cause i don't like my savory foods to have a drop of sweetness.
our waitress, brittany, was prompt, and made sure we were taken care of, despite us being seated out of sight away from the other customers.
i love the art work.  movie/ tv show quotes.
would we go back?  yes.  but ONLY if were going to get pizza.  i'll post pictures when i get home.

As bad as it gets. Where to start....? First off, my wife got excited when she noticed the outdoor eating option, so we had to go there. We walked in and waited....a few more people walked in and a few more after them.....before long, there was a good 4-6 people waiting behind us. Now the "Please Wait to be Seated" sign is about 15ft from the bar, so we are completely visible to the bartender. Finally a gentleman walks by, talks to the bartender, then as he passes again, mentions he will be with us shortly.....so we waited a little longer. We finally get his attention, to which he informs us there is a 20min wait. Now, we already walked past the outdoor area, and we KNOW it isn't full. So we ask, he tells us there is a very bad bee problem and he wouldn't feel comfortable seating us out there. Well, I guess we were felling ballsy, cause we said we could hack it and he sat us outside. As we walked past the indoor dining area, I noticed nearly half tables were empty.

Once outside we ordered out pizza which came with salad and "beer nuggets" (fried dough with parm) I think someone had already mentioned the salad dressing? Like a glob right in the center of a bowl of iceberg lettuce. If eating it was bad, defending the flys and bees was even worse. This place should shut the outdoor area down all together. They have a serious fly and bee problem. I'll post some pics.. It was stupid. The pizza as not good either, we took one slice each and said we were done. Then after he boxed it up for us... we left it on the next garbage we saw. Sauce was over spiced/herbed?

Oh, and the "music" that was pumping in was so loud we had to yell to each other and as if it couldn't get any worse... it was cutting in and out constantly.. Someone needs to grab this owner and shake the shit out of him, cause he will be out of business in no time if there isn't something done quickly.

Go to the Galena Brewery next door... we should have.

Service was a little spotty and our server literally dopped our drinks and ran off not to be found for some time...food was very large portioned but nothing outstanding, except for the beef barley soup that came with my burger. That soup was very tasty. I agree this place has a fly issue, they were all over the TV screen showing the football game which wasn't too bad but then they decided my hands, arm and plate were all better spots to hang out. I didn't like  the salad that comes with most meals here because they gob on a huge amount of salad dressing before they bring it out. Maybe that's why they call it "Gobbies"? If I go back I would try the pizza and skip any salad......

Bad Host: My husband and I came here for our first time on 9/4/10 around 6pm. From the moment we arrived we were ignored by the host - a young blonde kid with bad acne. He acknowledged the people in front of us, they left to go stand somewhere and then we waited for him to take our name down to be seated. After 20 minutes of watching him run around the restaurant bussing tables, seating other people, getting drinks from behind the bar (eventhough there were already two bartenders) did *I* approach him and ask him if he was the host. He was very arrogant and acted as though I was bothering him to do his job. He took our names and said it would be 15 minutes. We waited at the bar where the bartender was better and the drinks were good. Once we were seated I watched the same thing happen to other people who were waiting to be acknowledged by the host. Most were not as patient as I and left. The beer nuggets were good, the salad comes in this spaceship-looking bowl (a little embarassing), and the pizza was ok (crust was hard/burnt). Overall, not impressed and will not return.

Only good thing here is the beer nuggets. Was in over holiday weekend, tables were empty but manager/owner seemed to be saving tables even though people were in line and some around us were upset about the empty tables also.  When we were finally called, he sat us outside, where he told others there was a bee problem, even though tables were empty inside. Guess because I complained, though he said they needed to be 'sanitized'. We left without ordering, even though we had a gift certificate. He was very rude and argumentative. Will never go back again. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Nothing special here. We were going to actually eat at Fried Green Tomatoes next door but it wasn't open yet so we decided to give Gobbie's a try.

The food is typical bar food. I heard the pizza is great but we only tried the sandwiches. First of all do not bother getting an appetizer. Most meals (except pizza's I believe) come with a huge free bowl of salad and a bowl of beer nuggets and your choice of soup or fries. The beer nuggets are actually really good and as far as I can tell are just fried pizza dough with a really good marinara sauce (which may have some beer mixed in). The sandwiches were huge, almost a loaf of bread each, but nothing special about them, good but not great.

The place seemed very casual and friendly.. like most bars. The service was not bad but then again there were only a few people there at around noontime. If you want an over the top culinary experience go some place else, but if you want a place where you want to get together with friends and watch a game give Gobbie's a chance.

DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!  If I could give this place negative stars I would.  My boyfriend and I took his parent here for a late lunch on a Saturday.  The place was rather empty and we were given the pick of tables.  We chose a booth at the window and were not warned about the MASSIVE fly problem they had.  The waitress just said "Oh you can keep a menu or two to kill them".  Yeah, we should have requested a bazooka because there were just too many for it to be healthy.  We asked to sit at a different table after the flies invaded our salad.  We ordered three Gyros platters and a burger with no bun.  The only thing that came correct were our drinks. THe food compared to the price did not match.  The gyros you could get better for half the price at a burger joint with 5 times the meat.  When it came time to pay the waitress was no were to be found so i gave my bill to the manager to pay.  he took it and I never saw him again.  I went to the bar to retrieve my card and that took another 10 minutes!  RIDICULOUS!

I will NEVER EVER go back to this disgusting place again!

Waited 5 minutes at the bar for our first drinks(not too crowded at all). I went to the bar to order a second beer, d-bag bartender told me something was wrong with the keg and walked away and served other people.  I put my cash back in my pocket and went elsewhere. Won't be back. Ever. Can't really comment on the food.

Have had the Deep Dish pizza here both in 2009 & 2010, and loved it both times.  Now, I am a Chicago guy and love my Deep Dish.  Gobbie's Deep Dish is Chicago worthy, however, the sauce is sweeter than your usual pizza sauce - I like it as a change of pace.  But, some people may not.

I think all Chicagoans can agree that finding a decent place to eat is hard to find in downtown Galena.  I think my husband and I stumbled onto a great eatery that happens to be owned by the same people who own the Log Cabin Steakhouse.  What makes this place also great is you will leave full and satisfying -- they give you TONS of food here which is a plus since most of the restaurants on Main St. overcharge and underdeliver.

My husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger with seasoned fries and I ordered the Italian Beef sandwich also with seasoned fries.  The fries were generously served and piping hot!  Every meal comes with salad and a basket of beer nuggets (deep fried dough with dusted with a parmesan herb sprinkle).  My only suggestion is ASK FOR THE SALAD DRESSING ON THE SIDE.  It's super sweet and kind of "slopped on" the greens.

Overall, the food was good and the service was GREAT.  Both of our sandwiches were about $9 each and it came with salad and a free appetizer of beer nuggets with warm chunky marinara sauce.  If you're looking for a restaurant with friendly and prompt service, tasty dishes, and a nice atmosphere grab a lunch at Gobbies!

So when I asked, "So what exactly is a beer nugget?" the server's black-rimmed eyes went...vacant.

"It's, like, little pieces of fried bread? Like, little squares?"

"Oh - like beer bread, fried?"

"Yeah! Wul, no...just, like, dough and stuff. But it comes with this tomato sauce and it's REALLY, REALLY good."

I shrugged and looked at my companion, who also shrugged. We ordered them, what the hell. We were indeed served small squares of fried dough and a small compote of heavily-spiced, thick marinara sauce, similar to pizza sauce. They were fine. The fried dough was plain, as far as I could tell. My dining companion thought that the name must just reference the beverage with which you should enjoy these nuggets.

Those aside, this is a local place with simple food and a relatively good atmosphere. Most in this place seemed to know each other, and while we were treated fine, we were practically branded as soon as we walked in the door. The burger was delicious - the must-try for this place. My companion got the greek salad, which aside from sporting a heaping handful of feta on top, was nothing to write home about. The drinks are made well, the service was fine, if a touch distracted...if I'm back in Galena again sometime, I will most likely pop in for a beer.

Gobby's has decent bar food.  That's about the long and short of it.  The beer nuggets are what they are famous for which is basically fried pizza .  They were good but not super amazing.  I haven't had a chance to try their pizzas yet, which all sound delicious, but the sandwiches I've had are all quite good.

The downside is that I have never had a good experience there staff wise.  Every time the waitress has been distracted, and we were lucky we even got our order.  The last time I went I paid with my credit card and was told she wouldn't be back so I'd have to stand by the bar until the bartender was done running it and sign up there.   Awesome.

The beer selection is also strangely small for a bar that bills itself as a sports bar but it could have seemed small because I wanted something besides bud/miller lite.

Overall, the food is good, the prices are eh, and the staff are apathetic.  If you don't know where else to go and you feel like some greasy bar food stop by.

Sometimes, greasy foods are pure delicious.

Gobbie's, in downtown Galena, is a sports bar in the truest sense.  A bar that shows sports.  Gobbie's has a variety of items on the menu.  Sandwiches, Burgers, salads, and pizza.  And fried appetizers.  Oh god.  The fried appetizers.  And free beer nuggets.  Delicious beer nuggets.

An order of beer nuggets, onion rings, house salad with raspberry vinaigrette, ham and turkey club, and seasoned fries later, I can barely move, I've lost a major artery, but I'm extremely happy.

I've enjoyed myself every time I've gone, and I can recommend for anyone visiting.
