This place, oh boy where do I start. The staff has no clue as to what they're doing, mainly because the owner cuts corners like its nobodies business! Personally I've seen them put boxed wine in their $30 bottles and sell it to customers. I will never attend this place again. Food is lack luster at best and they don't have any beer on tap. Goodtimes is anything but a good time. TRUST ME!
Review Source:This place has been around forever. Its located right across the street from Ballston Lake with tremendous views. I love the feel of the restaurant. Rustic yet refined. Its just the kind of Old-fashioned homestyle restaurant you want to love, but the food just doesn't live up to the high prices. And the restaurant is suffering. The place was empty. Only about 4 tables for a Friday night dinner.
The building is set atop a hill so you get a great view of the lake. There are bird feeders and bird houses right outside the sliding glass doors and a big wood burning fireplace inside to make you feel cozy alongside knitted placemats. Not much more to ask for as far as feeling welcomed. And the service is just as inviting. Â So what is there not to love?
The menu is somewhat confusing and leaves a lot to be desired. Its hard to say what type of cuisine they specialize in. Many of the dinners are Italian dishes but then they have steak, sandwiches, and burgers. Its all over the place especially for a country restaurant. They should be focusing on comfort foods.
Now when you put a title on a dish such as "French Onion AMAZING Soup" it had better live up to it. In reality it was below average. Not enough to be bad but nothing to boast over. For dinner I got The Ghosts Crazy Alfredo which is described as "sweet Italian sausage, tender shrimp, broccoli, bell peppers and marinated tomatoes", and my gf got the Stuffed Shells with meatballs. Now I can tell you one thing the ghost isn't crazy about; Shrimp. There were only two average sized pieces in the whole dish. It's almost not worth mentioning. The sausage however was excellent and plentiful. The pasta on the dish was very under cooked. I like al dente pasta but this was only about half cooked and barely hung over my fork. I really should have sent it back but I ended up just taking most of it home and eating the leftovers which were decent once cooked longer. The Stuffed Shells were much better. The sauce was admirable and the cheese filling was first-rate. The meatballs couldn't live up to the wonderful sausage though. Â Dessert was the high point of the meal for me. They have homemade pies and cobblers as well as a few other things which are all fairly priced in comparison to the rest of the menu. I tried the Raspberry crumb pie which is served warm and you can add either whipped cream or ice cream. YUM! The only disappointment was the top being somewhat mushy as if they had used a microwave to heat it up.
If the entrees were priced about $5 cheaper and included a salad it would be a good value and I could justify going back. Its a shame because there isn't a ton of competition in that area but they are pushing away customers with high priced entrees that don't deliver.
They also other items such as a homemade draft Root-beer; and a homemade dressing that they sell, which would be another good reason to include a salad with their entrees. It would help promote the dressing, if it really is good enough to take home.
Not to happy with the bill but that's not why it's only 2 stars. The family style buffet was okay but not worth the evening. End up paying for 5 extra meals and when we asked for the leftovers we were informed that they were thrown out. Just before that the owner had said that she would feed her staff the left overs.
Review Source:This review is one of those where 3.5 Stars would be handy.
Went for dinner recently at the Good Times, it was a overall nice meal. The waitress explained that zucchini was overflowing from the garden and there was a lot of zucchini related specials.
Food- 3.5 Stars
They brought out an amuse bouche kinda thing to start- it was a fresh tomato and cucumber salad from their on site garden and was very nice.
We got steamers as an appetizer. They were decent not great and probably the smallest littlenecks I have ever seen.
My wife got the zucchini tomato soup (of the day). It was based in their french onion and was OK, not great.
For meals I got the Zucchini Parmesan. It was perfectly fried and the sauce was very good, showing the freshness of the tomatoes used. My wife got a chicken sandwich which was also good.
Atmosphere- 4 Stars. Great lakeside location, nice inside too. It was rather quiet for a weekend night though.
Service- 3.5 Stars. Waitress was super friendly and attentive but forgot my order once (came back to ask) and also put my wife's in wrong... the whole sandwich versus the slider version of the same thing.
Value- 4 Stars. Overall a good deal.
We will be back.
We ate here twice - once for lunch when the place was empty, and the meal was pretty good. I had a burger, and my wife had a turkey sandwich. Both tasted good and the service was decent. So the next time we were in the area, we stopped by for dinner on a Saturday evening, and were sorely disappointed. The food was overpriced and underwhelming, but the main issue was that it took over an hour and fifteen minutes for the food to come out. We were there with our two children, 10 years old and 1 year old, who were both getting antsy and I had to constantly walk my 1 year old outside so he would stop crying at the table. Little children cannot sit quietly at a table for such a long period of time, and no real apologies were given for the huge delay in serving us. A huge group (over 25 young ladies) came in after us and was finished with their meal well before we even received our dinners . Â We were simply told that "their kitchen fell apart" and that our food would "be out soon". Finally when we got the food, my Asian chicken salad was soggy and was served in a greasy tortilla shell. There was nothing really asian about it; a McDonald's salad would have tasted better. The only bright side was they gave out toys with the kids meals. Unfortunately I will be avoiding this place from now on because despite the fairly nice lake view, the food was terrible and the service awful. If you go, go only for lunch and stick to the basics like the burgers.
Review Source:Sloppy.
I've given this place three visits. Two for dinner one for lunch. We won't be back.
This restaurant is located on Ballston Lake. It's the perfect spot for a superb restaurant, yet they follow through with one of the most disappointing meals you'll have all year.
Ordered the special escargot stuffed mushroom caps. There's two of us dining and they served us five button mushrooms. One was missing an escargot. Seriously? There was nothing in it. I had to cut one in half to fill it. They were served on a cold plate with lots of runny sauce that was tasty but impossible to get on the mushroom since it was so thin. Served with a side of, salad? Romaine leaves and two baby spinach leaves that had been somewhat wilted by the sauce. It was served on a plate that was too big for the item, making it seem lost.
The Topless Seafood Melt is described as:
Fresh white fish, crab, carrots, onions and sweet bell peppers lightly seasoned with our secret dressing then baked with fresh sliced tomatoes and cheddar cheese served on our homemade soft rolls with pineapple slaw...$8.95
They were out of fish, carrots and bell peppers and failed to mention this so they just piled on the imitation crab. It must have been the bottom of the bucket because it was just the little tiny bits. They also failed to core the tomato featured on the top. Â Finding the bit where the stem was attached to the tomato in a giant chunk was underwhelming. It was cold and sad. Not served on a lovely soft roll, but on a slice of white bread that had been cut in half to form a two-slice base to this wreck of a melt.
The worst part is that I was expecting real crab, based on the crab cake appetizer on the menu that states they use real crab. My bad to think that this standard starting at the beginning of the menu would carry over into the rest of the menu. Their bad that they failed miserably on this sandwich.
On to dessert. Banana cream pie is a sloppy, flat, old, dreary, gummy mess. They attempted to cover this up by piling on a can of reddi whip and a squeeze of chocolate sauce.
Some useful information: They own a boat launch across from the restaurant. It's $12 to launch your boat there and park. It's free if you eat $50 worth of food from the restaurant.
Their deck has a great view, blocked by a weeping willow tree.
I went to Good Times restaurant after hearing good things about it from others. I wanted to like the place, but really, it fell short on so many levels. Granted, I was with a larger party, but there was no one else at the restaurant when I was there, so I feel like the dining experience we received wasn't the correct end result.
The whole meal was just uneven. A few people ordered soups, those came out right away. 20 minutes later the salads came out. And then maybe 10 minutes later the entrees started coming out. And when I say started, I mean because a few came, and then 5 minutes later, a few more and then a little later the rest. I think it's OK for kids meals to come out early, since the little ones sometimes get antsy at the table, but this was adult entrees. The two people who ordered steak had to send it back because both of the steaks were undercooked to their specifications and people were eating dessert before these steaks came back. That's how awful the timing of the meal was.
With all of that said, the food was only OK. Nothing wowed me and I'd say it's just your average rustic restaurant. I'm sure there is a nice view of the lake in the summer, but in the winter it was just dark out and cold.
