Ah the GAP. Proud owners of my first ever One Dollar Tip.
Was seated in a booth, no one came over after 15 minutes. Spoke to hostess who couldn't have cared less, who then nonchalantly flagged down a girl probably 16 years old to wonder over. Her eyes were both glossy and bloodshot red, remarkably matching her hair color precisely. She giggled as we each ordered diet cokes? I didn't want to grow a beard by the time I left so I put our order in for a pepperoni pizza.
It came out cold after 30 minutes. not lukewarm, but refrigerated hangover curing pizza style cold. After another 20 minutes we asked for the bill. $14. what a convenient number. I introduced her to Abe Lincoln and Alexander Hamilton, punishing her with a George Washington for all her hard work and great service.
I have been here a few times since December 2012 and have had the same waitress who recognized me and remembered my cocktail order. Â Their watermelon martinis are the best and I have brought several pals back to the GAP just to try them. The menu is standard pub fare but the steak tips (more like medallions) were excellent and their spinach and artichoke dip was very tasty. Try it and see for yourself. Â For dessert, our waitress strongly recommended the chocolate chip cookie pie and she was right. Â She actually makes it herself.
Review Source:I have a friend that loves the joint.  However, I do everything in my power to avoid this place.  I've never had a bad time here, no one has ever been rude...it's just...well...boring.  It's a sports bar and I think I have expressed my disinterest in that before.  But that's not it.  I can't quite put my finger on it.  It might be the shape of the bar, as you can't go around it once you've gone down one side of it.  It might be the people there, I just don't...know...But the pizza is good, so it got two stars.  I think that my review shouldn't deter you from making your own decisions about the place.  OH!  But if you're  a grammar nazi like me (and I know I've made typos in other reviews-forgive me)  I went in today and there was at least 3 typos in the daily specials.  That's another reason that it got two stars and not three.  I absolutely hate bad spelling and grammar in something like that.
Review Source:I've been to GAP a couple of times in the past, and I've only gotten their pizza and gold fever wings, which were both very good for pub food.
However, I turned 21 recently and have since been checking out all the bars in the Taunton area. This one has had the worst drinks by far. I got a CC and ginger for my first drink, which tasted like water with a splash of whiskey. Disappointing. I thought that maybe it was because the drink was practically overflowing with ice, so I tried again. This time I ordered a gin and tonic, which is my go to drink. This was no better. It was pretty much water with a splash of tonic and maybe a drop of gin... I really wouldn't be as bitter about it if they didn't charge the same as other local bars whose drinks are noticeably stronger. My girlfriend ordered the same drinks as I did, and made the same observation. Everyone else that we went with ordered beers, and had no complaints about them being watered down. So the good news is that they're not watering down their beer.
Great American Pub has very good pub food, and if you're looking for a place to go to have a couple of beers and a pizza- this is a great place for that. If you're looking for some good quality mixed drinks, look elsewhere. My suggestion? Flying Dog or Ugly Duckling. The mixed drinks are priced the same, but actually have some liquor in them.
Good pizza and wing specials. I like the bar set up, but this place has such a bad pour. I need at least 20 drinks to get a buzz on here. My whiskey on the rocks was pathetic, I rank this place as one of the worst pours in the state and my 2 star rating reflects this. I asked for a double and got an atttitude with my NO! Even 99c pizzas and keno can't help this place.
Review Source:The best thing about this bar... you would think I would agree and say the pizzas (order extra cheese when ordering cheese pizza) or steak tips, but not quite... The quantity of flat screens are about the only nice things I can say about this place :( The food was meh. If I wanted a microwaved dish I would've eaten at home.
I'm hoping to have a better experience the next time I visit.
I went there the other day for a beer around 5pm and I had to wait like 10 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge my presence. Â I hate going to places and waiting for a beer. The place wasn't even busy. I would have had given them a one star review but the Miller Lite draft was only 2 bucks with tax! Â I might go back with prices like that! :]
Review Source:The GAP is a local staple in the Taunton/Raynham area - you go when you don't know where else to go and want a decent meal in a casual setting.
The steak tips are I guess what you'd call the menu "signature" item, as everyone raves about them and the do smell awesome. I'm more of a sandwich gal, myself, and they do have a pretty decent variety on the menu. The pizza is very good - a medium crust, but more toward the thin bar-type crust. They have a pretty wide selection of apps, my favorite being the buffalo wings on the bone. Although the last few times I've been in, despite ordering them crispy (and when I say crispy, I mean some serious steam coming off the plate when it's delivered and a little crunch when I bite into the wings), they weren't.
I think the service has declined recently. It seems they've gone through some staff changes, different cooks and bartenders at least, the more experienced women who used to work behind the bar are gone (they were great!) and some young chickies who have a bit more to learn about service were working - not a good sign - especially to a former server and bartender.
They have about 8 flat screens around the bar, so you always have a view of whatever game is on and they also have Keno and that silly horse race game. Â There are booths and tables in the back restaurant area as well as bar seating and some pub tables in the bar area.
Overall, it's a decent pub.
GAP, is a Good American Pub. It's not great, the menu doesn't have any items that stand out on it. The service is great, I'll give them that, the staff is always friendly. The food isn't bad at all, but I'd only stop in if I was in the area. I wouldn't make a trip out of my way to come here. Lots of flat screens to watch the game, and some cool sports memorabilia hanging on the walls and from the ceiling. I wish I could write more, but I think I've covered everything there is to cover at GAP.
Review Source:This place is very calm. Even when they have the DJ there doing all rock and there is a baseball game on - people don't seem to get all riled up. It's nice. The guys who run the doors and answer the phones are total sweethearts. They let you go in and out and smoke to your heart's content without carding you each time - I hate when they do that!
The bartenders are old enough to be my mother, which is relieving and concerning at the same time, but they have been very generous both times I was there. They have an okay selection of beer - you know, the usual. They are not half bad at mixing a drink either, it's not really worth it though, just drink beers... Your in the middle of nowhere anyways, you gotta get home... eventually, you know?
