Delicious bar food. Really great wings. Fantastic burgers.
Prices are a tiny bit steep and the service is hit or miss. We were so offended by being treated so badly once that we left after giving our drink order. That's not the norm though. Usually the service is decent to good. We come here often, it's worth it for the wings.
On a side note, I hate all the t.v.s but I can't deduct points for this since I know I'm in the slim minority of people who really dislikes having t.v.s on while I'm trying to share a meal.
Pretty good casual restaurant. Â Clean, good decor. Â The food is average - nothing that you'll break your back to get to, but it's not awful either. Â Our service last night was great - the guy was almost too nice - figured out why - the manager checks on you at end of meal to see how everything was. Â My husband had the free wings (very yummy!) that you get when you joined their text club. Â He also had the pulled pork sandwich - this is not an easy one to bite into - he said it was decent. Â I had the Fleet Street Chicken - great option for those watching calories - breast of chicken with a BBQ Bourbon glaze on top, mashed potatoes and green beans. Â As silly as this sounds I did like how the green beans were seasoned - yummy! Always hate how green beans get so cold so fast though. Â Anyway - excellent service, nice place next to Cinebistro in Hampton - so stop here first if you don't want to pay fancy smancy prices for Cinebistro next door.
Review Source:The menu options were very good. I will come back the next time I'm in Hampton. The food was very good.
My only complaint was that the waiter, which is typical for these type of establishments, only brought my friend utensils and forgot about me, disappeared when we need refills or our check and wasn't very attentive at all.
I've been here twice and had to order the same cranberry salad both times because of how amazing the taste. I also ordered with grilled shrimp skewers on top, which made for a hearty lunch without feeling the lunch time sleepiness from typical heavy bar food.
Service during this slower time is good. Prices are on the high side for lunch.
I recently tried Greene Turtle and I enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff was very courteous. The dining area is very spacious but their lobby/waiting area is rather small, so on a busy night most guests were standing outside. Another cons is that the bar area is very small. I did enjoy the drinks and the bartenders tended to have a "come to me" sort of aura, so they were super friendly. Because the bar was small, you got to know your bartender pretty well.
At the bar, they had two kiosk that allowed you to play some video games etc. That was fun.
The atmosphere overall was nice and comfortable. The food menu was very diverse and reasonably priced. My favorite - their cheesy fries!!!! They are to die for! :)
I enjoy going to the Greene Turtle.
Rating is ZERO. Worst Custumer Service Ever! We were DISSATISFIED with the service. Manager Whitney Green was not willing to serve us. There was 18 of us and she made a disappointed face when she learned we were all paying separate checks of 5 groups. We are not even all seated together. What if we all came in separately??? She asked one of the employee to tell us that it will be an hour wait for food. The place was not even busy. Nobody even asked us for our orders or drinks. We felt DISCRIMINATED ...they did not want to entertain us at all. They could have just told us that it was a long wait before even wasting out time waiting to be seated. What a way to treat costumers. BOooo
Review Source:Casual American restaurant meets sport bar...doesn't quite hit the mark on either concept. I went here for a lunch on a Saturday with a friend, with a sandwich in mind. Sadly, the sammie options here are slim (the whole menu was smaller than expected) so I went with a basket of chicken tenders and fries for $10. Food was okay, nothing special. Overall, the prices seem a tad high for this type of restaurant.
Service was awesome, with the server coming back to check on us often. It would have been nice if she asked if it would be separate checks for my party of two, but not a big deal. Very family friendly place, a lot of little ones in the restaurant when I was dining.
They do UFC night here, which might be a better option than the crazy-packed B-Dubs in Newport News. I probably wouldn't come back here since there are other restaurants at Peninsula Town Center I prefer (Abuelo's, Five Guys, and Park Lane Tavern).
I've been to this location twice, once in 2011, and again very recently. Their menu's changed, but the food is still excellent. Best french fries I've EVER had ANYWHERE. The servers are friendly, and the food arrives quickly, and piping hot. I was very pleased with how the servers didn't attempt to rush you out of the place after closing. Haven't been here during the weekend yet, but I plan on doing so sometime soon. Didn't give 5 stars, however, because both times I've arrived, the music has been turned down pretty low. I'm one of those people that likes singing along to the music to annoy whoever I'm eating with. It's a bit embarrassing when the music's too low.
One really neat thing: the booths have TV's attached! So I guess if you're on a date and your date sucks you can just look at sports & what not.
I have to admit, my last visit to The Green Turtle swore me off of this place for ever. But. Being a party to a family gathering here today, I went along, with little to no expectations (and no input on where we were going to eat).
The GT was not that busy when we arrived. We were sat, and our server attended our drink needs, while we waited for the birf'day girl to arrive.
My last visit, I had fried fish flavored saltines: a 'rockfish' dish with saltine thin sliced rockfish, heavily battered and deep fried. While not that that tasty, I walked out of the place hungry. For the price of our meals, that should not have happened.
Today, I ordered off of the 2 for $14.00 menu, a 8 ounce sirloin steak, with mashed potatoes and green beans. I also ordered a house salad (as I almost always do - I love salad).
The salad was a mixed greens (I take it that is hipster speak for fancy lettuce). It was different, but it was fresh. Enjoyable.
My steak arrived covered in mushroom gravy (apparently, I missed that detail in the menu) and strangely enough, everything was piled in one corner of a square plate. Potatoes, with the steak and green beans laying on top.
My Here it goes again meter started to rise up, but to my complete surprise, the steak was very good. Although it had a heavy gravy covering, it was tasty and tender. Almost spoon cut able tender. It was, to my surprise, and against my expectations, very good.
The mashed potatoes, I presume were instant (no lumps or think texture that one gets from cooked mashed potatoes). However, they were good, especially with the gravy. Green beans were crisp and not over cooked. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.
Our server was attentive and tried her best to keep up with drink refills with our large party.
While I, again, walked out of a restaurant hungry (I'll fix the walking out hungry thing: Next time I get roped into coming to the Greene Turtle, I will eat at Five Guys first, and only order desert here), I can say that the quality of the meal, on this trip, was so much better than my past experience with The Greene Turtle.
While this place will never make it into my lets go here and eat rotation, I have taken it off of my bad places to eat list, due to today's performance.
Of course, your mileage may vary.
You still have to pay Hampton's oppressive Food Tax here, and you have to pay the Peninsula Town Center tax for the privilege of spending your money at their stores: Both #FAIL.
There is enough lot parking in the area of the Green Turtle so that you do not have to use the PTC parking meters (PS: PTC - any store in the PTC where I have to pay a parking meter to shop at, will never get any business from me. Are you folks morons? Is this the 1950's? Lose the damned parking meters.)
I cannot recommend the Greene Turtle. But I can also not recommend that you stay far away from this place.
@Removeyourhat
Great day Good people! Â
A friend and I had an awesome dining experience here last night! Â We ordered off of the 2 for $14.99 menu and she also tried an appetizer, The Mozzarella Caprese (a lighter option). Â For the entrees she had the Bacon & Cheddar Stuffed Burger with chips and I had Fleet Street Chicken (a lighter option). Â I know she thoroughly enjoyed her food, but my food was superb!!!! Â I would hands down recommend this location to anyone that enjoys a great dining out venture. Â We also had a few cocktails: the skinny margarita and she had the berry something (i forgot). Â But they were oso yummy!!! Â I can only speak for myself, I will definitely return. Â The waitress was helpful with answering our questions and concerns and she was attentive. Â The atmosphere was great touch as well!! Â They also had TV's at the booths so we didn't miss any prime time Olympics coverage. Â There are also several restaurants and places to shop in the area. Â If you go avoid paying at the meter park by parking in the Target parking lot and take a short stroll.
Well worth the money and time!
We had a what appeared to be a very new waitress so I don't really blame her. Slow service from the kitchen, wrong food delivered to table, correct order came back and the bun was hard as a rock! Â Manager said he was sorry and would comp me the sliders, too late. Â This place might be ok for the occasional beer, but I will never return.
Review Source:The Greene Turtle is my preferred hang-out if I'm in the Hampton area. Â It's in a cool location--right in the middle of the new development that sprung from the ghetto (don't worry, few traces of ghetto there anymore). Â There are lots of shops and other bars/restaurants within the little complex.
I haven't really gone here for food before, so I can't give much insight on the quality o their entrees--but I can tell you that the pretzels with cheese dip from the bar menu are fantastic and soaking up some of the alcohol. Â
The beer selection is pretty good for a chain and reasonably priced. Â They've always had an IPA on tap for me--so I appreciate that. Â
By far the best thing to get out of this place is the atmosphere. Â It's a great place to go for UFC fight nights or any other sporting event. Â There are lots of flat panels. Â The place is lit up enough that it doesn't feel sleepy and the people are always in good spirits. Â
Definitely check them out if you haven't.
I love this place, for one reason only - FOOTBALL. Â I recommend this place to watch NFL Sunday Ticket, only make sure you show up in plenty of time before the game you want to watch, as sometimes seating is a problem. Â They have a whole bunch of large flat screens to show all the games, and they will seat you according to what game you are interested in.
Sit back, stay awhile, and enjoy the games. Â The waitresses (in my experiences) do not push you, or hurry you - they know you are going to sit there and watch the game. Â They have a somewhat decent selection of beers, and the ambience is very family friendly.
If you're hungry, however, I reccomend you stick with the appetizer menu. Â I love the soft pretzels, and the wings and "hog hammers" are very good. Â Usually the wings are on special on game days, so you get like 10 wings for 5 bucks. Â Not too bad.
Everytime I have eaten off of the main menu however, I have been either dissapointed or merely "meh" about the food. Â Once or twice I have been dissapointed enough in my meal to not eat it. Â And that's saying something.
So, to wrap up: Â Beer, football and wings. Â Don't go anymore than that.
Key word : GROUPON.
So Groupon had a pay 10 dollars for 20 dollars worth of food (alcohol excluded, and I say damn it to whatever silly commonwealth law dictates that crap).
We decided to have dinner there on Friday night. Apparently all 137 people who purchased the groupon decided to use it that night too. It was about a 15 minute wait for a party of 2, not too terrible, but I HATE waiting so we opted for an open spot at the bar. Unfortunately the bar doesn't have a "tv at every table" but there are enough screens mounted on the walls to make up for that detail.
I ordered the blackened ahi tuna and a cup of the OC crab soup. The tuna was OK. Now, I'm not an expert but the middle of the tuna was a little cold. I realize that its supposed to be raw, but come on, room temp please? The tuna comes with rice and vegetable (same thing I could have gotten at Applebees or a lean cuisine box out the freezer).
On to the soup: The soup was fabulous. Its a tomato based crab soup so its pretty healthy. It was the perfect starter to balance out the 4 vodka and diet cokes that I couldn't use my groupon for.
All in all, Greene Turtle is a nice happy hour spot. I think it takes alot for a "pub" to produce super out of this world above and beyond food. Greene Turtle, for me, falls into this category of average food - great pub. The happy hour prices are reasonable - I know this because I couldn't use my groupon to pay for the drinks
Nothing wrong with this place but nothing great either. I was in town for a seminar and went here to meet some friends.
Selection of beers is kind of standard nothing special. Menu selections aren't bad either. I had the Jerk chicken which was moist and tasty but could have used more of the jerk seasoning.
Waitress was attentive and took good care of us.
Like I said nothing special but nothing that stood out enough to make me want to come back.
Slainte!
This was my first time here, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Â It was pretty busy the night we went, but the wait time wasn't too long. Â Everyone from the hostess to the waitress, was very nice to us. Â The food was hot and good (we had the crab cakes and the sliders). Â My hubby and I decided to share the apple pie, but after one bite, I had to get my own. Â I was very pleased with everything here, and would definitely go back. Â However, when I went home and tried the one in DC, I was quite disappointed. Â They may need some tips from the Hampton folk to show them how it's done.
Review Source:I was really looking forward to this place. There had been a lot of advertisements on the Radio and for a Sports Bar I liked the idea of having a small TV located at every booth. In practice though, that was not so hot.
Le me first say that the food itself was fine. Nothing special but also not terrible either. Â However, it was WAY overpriced. Â
We arrived and there were 2 hostesses standing at the greeting station. Â We asked for a booth. They responded with "Oh.... ok, well we'll need to clean one off for you". Â Of course you will. Â You however don't need to point that out like it's an inconvenience to you. Â Instead, just say "sure, we'll have a table for you in just a few moments".
So we get seated, and after a couple of minutes the waitress comes by to take our drink order. Normally at this point we would see the waitress again in 5-10 minutes to take our order. That's not what happened though. Â While the waitress passed by our table several times, she didn't come back to us to take our order or check on us until nearly 20 minutes later. Â This theme was repeated throughout our entire meal. waiting.... and more waiting. Â A lunch that should've taken us a little more than an hour took very nearly two. Â
Also, Consider ordering Onion Rings as an appetizer. They were like $6 or $7 an order. Not so bad. Â When they arrived though they were in a cone shaped basket that only held like 7 o4 8 onion rings? Â That's pretty sad.
Want a burger? Â Sure. You can get a bacon cheeseburger. They've got one, it costs 8.99. Â Not too bad right? Â Wrong, read the small print. Fries with that burger are $.99 more. Â
I'll never be going back here again. Â Just not worth it. Â I'll be going to Red Robin instead when I want to grab a quick bite at a table service resturaunt. Prices are about the same, but the service is considerably better.
