So, 3-stars sounds like a decent place, right? Â The Lowtel (as my friends call it) is an absolutely interesting place. Â I won't recommend it for all, but if you're into irony or reality, this could be your place.
At various times, a band will set up in the front corner and wail out some rock or folksy toons. Â The beers are cheap. Â The food is terrible, but its all packaged and cheap, so you're getting what you pay for. Â And the other patrons, well, lets just say that its got lots of local flavor.
But if you want a place to buy a cheap Bud, eat some pickled eggs or squid packed in tins, and do some serious people watching, this could be your place.
I don't really understand the previous reviews that give this place such praise. It is dirty, smells bad, attracts some of the most odd people I've ever seen/talked to in my life, and gives you a feeling when you leave that you may contract some random disease. You could not pay me to step into this place ever again.
Review Source:If you want to take a step back in time and/or pretend you are Jack Nicholson in the Shining, this is your bar. The hotel hasn't seemed to change in eons, and in keeping with the theme, the drinks are very moderately priced. If you are a thrill seeker, ask if you can blow the dust off the peach schnapps bottle yourself. I was there on Deep Sea Bottle Blow Out night and the next morning I was wishing they had given me a t shirt that told the world I survived it as well.
Some nights they have live music, and the people watching rivals that of late night Central Park.
My oh my what have we here! What a gem of a place - very surreal experience. The crowd is hopping and I guarantee it's the same crowd that opened the place! The music was good - cover songs and whatnot but they were tight and enjoyable. Fun people watching and a must go when you have out of town guests!
Review Source:I agree with all the other reviews, great place to peoplewatch and have a good strong drink while checking out some local talent. IT definately has a vibe about it that is hard to describe. All in all never had bad service or a bad time in here and would say come on down and check it out for yourself.
Review Source:This review is about the EG hotel bar. I know nothing about the hotel itself, save for some unusual rumors... :-)
Ahhh the EG Hotel bar. How I love you in all your oddness. I wish more people could see you for how amazing you really are, but at the same time I don't because there aren't that many seats in the place! Many people in EG think the hotel is "weird" or "sketchy" and would never set foot in the place. But I am all about supporting any local establishment that offers live music, friendly service, and smiling people that are always up for a chat and a laugh. Ok, so maybe the reasons behind their perma-smiles aren't always the healthiest, but live and let live! I just like to sit back and enjoy a couple strong drinks and listen to some music. This place is rich with the character and humanity I so deeply crave!
Five stars for sheer weirdness. Prepare yourself for a time warp that is the least East Greenwich establishment Main Street has to offer. This is a hotel where people stay by the week... and often, much longer. The bar is big, and separated into rooms, one of which has a pool table, another of which has a piano and Nintendo, and then there's the room with the bar in it. Sometimes they have karaoke--which is to say, singalong with the piano night. The crowd is, um, eclectic, and you get the feeling that weird stuff happens here. I like taking out of towners here to creep them out, get them drunk for cheap, and generally enjoy  a non-snotty-EG experience.
Review Source:Well I have to say that the Greenwich Hotel is really doing something! The addition of there open mic night on Tuesdays, and local acts on Thursdays is great.
Open mic night brings out some great talent, and last night was Mark Cutler and friends. And the place was really rocking, and the band was spot on!
So if your looking for a small venue to see some great music, with reasonable drink prices and no cover come on down to the Greenwich!
