I enjoyed our dinner, the chicken fried steak sandwich was good, not outstanding. The potato soup in a bread bowl however, that was delicious. We sat down stairs and the girl waiting our table was not that great. Automatic gratuity for our group would have been acceptable if we would have seen our server again after the food was delivered. I plan on giving it another go.

Excellent!  Sat outside at a "glider booth".  4 GREAT meals.  Live music.  Ice cold drinks and grill your own meat option.  Great time.  It doesn't get any better in Allegan.

The prices have risen dramatically, in the past couple of months. Their COBB salad is now 10.50. The previous price was 7.99. That's quite a jump. All of their salads have risen $3 - $4.
I used to go there once a week for lunch and now I no longer go there.

Sat in the bar today and had pizza.  It was good but the crust was pretty hard.  Looked and tasted good.  Also had a cherry pecan crumble for dessert and it was exceptional and a great value.  Service was good but not great because she kept talking to the bar flies allot and was not checking on others.  All in all and good experience and everyday they have great specials too.  We will be having the steak special next time.

I have no idea what gives this place more than 2 stars.  The tropical salad I had was old wilted mixed greens with canned fruit  and 3 fried shrimp for about $11. It was awful. The menu had no real healthy alternatives to it . I love finding out of the way great places on Yelp but this one was a true disappointment.  It's too bad because the exterior is very charming.

A fun hang out.  Can't say much about the steaks.  I didn't have one.  All enormous in size, in an age when we are all health conscious.  You have to cook it  yourself.  Too bad the bar menu doesn't offer any steaks.sometimes you just want to be pampered.

My husband and I were ready for a night of celebration and decided to look around for somewhere off the path to go. A couple of friends recommended The Grill House to us, and we headed out with them. We have been to a similar place that has since closed, so we were hoping for the same experience.

We did go on a Saturday night, so they were busy, but not call ahead or on a wait busy. It was 80's night so the attire from the staff was hilarious, and somewhat entertaining.

We decided to go for the full experience and grill our own. The meals came with a bottomless salad, baked potatoes, and baked beans. Veggies, those cost extra at the grill. Very caveman like, but whatever. Yes it was a Saturday night, but the wait to get our salad was crazy long, and almost longer than it took to get a spot at the grill.

We finally got to the room and picked our steaks, everything looked nice and fresh. The room was NOT big enough for the number of people they were squeezing in there. I couldn't even get in front of whereI was trying to grill my steak and gave up, letting my husband finish it for me. I ended up with my steak being way undercooked, more than likely from me moving it on the grill to cook faster and get out of that small, hot, room.

We'll probably come back, and we'll probably order off the menu and see how it goes.

So we went here for a sit down lunch as we had enough of the fast food options.

It was a nice family run pub that the local guys explained was haunted. They went on about a ton of stories about events that have happened over the years. I'm not one who really believes in haunted places, but I do enjoy the fact the place has an interesting history which makes for a good conversation while you're there.

The staff were friendly and the food options were not very varied, but they were well done. I enjoyed the food and the price was not that much more than the fast food places. So definitely a nice option for lunch in that area.

It's haunted. Yes you heard me right by an old lumberjack. Don't let this deter you from coming and hitting up the grill room.

It is genius really. How can you complain about the food if you cook it yourself? I have had great cuts of beef (NY Strip and Rib eye), and I've ruined a great cut by grilling it medium well. It is pricy, but worth it. I have not had a good filet mignon here yet. The Grill House is fun for groups and special occasions. In the summer you can get a gliding booth and eat outside. Don't get the pizza. Come if  you want to grill, I've ordered from the pub menu twice, and both times I was disappointed.

I don't eat much meat, and having a plate covered in shades of brown; baked beans, steak, and grilled portabello mushrooms, is not my ideal meal. Many yelpers don't share my love of veggies and all plants green and beautiful, so take my review with a grain of sea salt.

You really can't complain. YOU grill on your own, your choice cut of steak the way YOU want it.  Medium-rare rib-eye for me. Perfection. Befriend Travis, the Grillmaster, and he will school you properly.

"Painting" your Texas Toast with a huge stroke of melted butter as you take it off the grill is heaven. The portabello mushroom skillet with with some marsala is very tasty as well.   Prices are what you would expect from any premium chophouse.  Go at dusk, and ask for a glider table outside by the running fountain.

Thanks Travel Channel for telling us about this gem in a most obscure location in Michigan. Oh, and this place is haunted, so ask the waitress for stories.  And if you got one, bring your own EMF meter and walk around looking for paranormal activity, especially in the bar downstairs. Ghost hunters unite!

NOTE: This is for the grill menu -we haven't tried the "pub" menu, which might well be a much better value. I'm also scaling down all of my reviews based on value -in the current economy, my theory of value is that if I could have made it better, at home, in half the time, and for half the price, the business deserves to close down.

This place is apparently the 'talk of the town', and we were told the Travel Channel had just featured it in a show. Our expectations were thus set pretty high. We sat outdoor, which is nice and is awesome if you have kids with you (they can run around on the lawn). Mosquitoes attacked fiercely quite early on, though.
The big feature of the outdoor seating is apparently those kind of booths on wheels, where you can rock yourself forward and back. We were curious to see who'd throw up first in the process, but it turns out that nobody kept on rocking while eating. Meanwhile, as we were told the wait on those rocking-booths was 45 mins and that you couldn't order food before being assigned a booth, we decided that a regular table was more than good enough, and prepared to order.
Here's the concept: you don't actually order. You're queued up for a spot at the grill. You first get to pick your piece of meat, then are assigned a grill spot, and then it's DIY. Actually, they're supposed to provide a 'coach' or the like, but our guy essentially ran off after giving us some pretty wild times for grilling after asking us how we wanted our meat cooked. In a sense it's good that he ran out, since I needed to practice my grilling skills and didn't agree with his methods (time is random; I've been taught to feel the meat for doneness).
The problem is that at $25 /person (I had a sirloin and my wife a kebab, which strangely enough were about the same prices), I would have at least expected a MUCH better cut than what we got. My sirloin was mediocre at best (you could tell just from looking at it, an impression confirmed on tasting), and my wife's kebab was tough and stringy. Considering that they get you to do the cooking (including seasoning, except on the kebab), this is not at all what I'd call a good value, and my standards are from Chicago where everything tends to be horrendously overpriced in the first place.
Service was also terribly slow, although pleasant. The only plus was a  decent salad of greens served as we were waiting for our place at the grill.
If you do end up there, I'd strongly suggest trying the pub menu (and perhaps even eating indoors at the bar), which sounds like it could be a much better value for your money than the grill.
Of course, the amazing thing about this concept is that you can't really complain about your food: after all, who's going to complain about something *they* cooked?
