A lady friend of mine has been going to Guillermo's for years, and raves about the place. Naturally, I had to try the place. She recently brought me some leftovers from there, and I was impressed. They were some type of homemade ravioli with chunks of shrimp and other good stuff in them in some type of blush sauce. I was impressed, and this sparked my interest.
I've had countless times where I've bought pricey "lobster ravioli" only to find it was primarily ricotta with weak lobster flavor. The fact that Guillermo's ravioli was homemade and of high quality was a good sign.
I went on sunday the 22nd, the day after armageddon. I brought some out of town relatives, so we had a party of 5. The salad and garlic bread were good, but didn't knock my socks off. The meal came with a small bowl (they call it a cup) of soup. That day it was chicken rice. It was very good. It tasted homemade, and had greens in it. The broth tasted like something made at home- not from salty canned broth.
I ordered crabcakes, and was quite impressed. There were no shells, and they were more flavorful than you would get at many seafood restaurants. They were amply sized, too. They came with some sort of tasty pasta swimming in too much of a tasty, cheesy blush sauce. All of the dishes were amply portioned, very reasonably priced, and of good quality. Everyone was very pleased, and thought the meal was a good value.
My friend warned me that the desserts were lame, but we tried them anyway. She, being a tiramisu connoisseur, was highly critical of theirs, so none of us tried it. I had a peanut butter mousse that was lame. Nobody else seemed particularly wowed by dessert. Also, the service was mediocre.
All that being said, I was still very pleased with Guillermo's and will definitely go back. The meal was good, tasty, of good quality, and amply portioned. Â The place was clean, and though not overly attentive, the servers were polite and pleasant. Though it's not a big consideration, the prices were good as well. The place is a great value for Italian food.
